Since it's relevant, here's my rewrite attempting to fix some of the problems with the ending for anyone who hasn't seen it>More emphasis placed on how hard the gang tries to keep Jax on suicide watch. But they're demoralized, exhausted and distracted trying to rebuild, and Jax reaches such a dissociative, near-catatonic state that it only takes the smallest slip-up for him to have a chance to abstract. You can still have a smash cut to the abstraction as long as this is clear>They're shocked and don't know what to do. Ragatha says something about feeling guilty, even though some part of her is glad this happened, which just makes her feel more guilty. Maybe phrased in a way that calls back "I hate you but I don't want you to hate me" from episode 4. Gangle expresses her difficulty crying, and she doesn't know why (very similar to ep 9. It's psychologically realistic and I love that part)>The first order of business is just to get Jax contained and less dangerous. We have the same scene where Pomni shoots out the lights and enters him. She only penetrates shallowly into his psyche (maybe opens one door?) before it slams shut on her and she's kicked out. Jax is calm enough that they can corral him somewhere as a temporary pen, but it might not last.>They consider trying to bring Caine back. Not only to contain Jax somewhere safer, but because they can't conjure NPCs, their creations can't be as complex, and one or two of them realize they might actually miss the adventures. Kinger believes it would be possible because data on computers isn't wiped when it's deleted, it's just unassigned. Some voices are strongly against it (Zooble). They're skilled enough at conjuring now that they could make a computer for Kinger. He says that he could just talk to Caine without having to do commit to anything else. They collectively agree but are still hesitant

Maybe intentionally paralleling Kinger wandering in episode 8. Looking through old files to pass the time he finds mentions of something called the internet which has limitless information on humans. He realizes where he might be able to access it, but if he fucks up he'll fall to the deep void and be lost forever. How this scene plays out would be very similar to him accessing the internet in the movie, but now it has actual stakes (him facing the danger shows his commitment to understanding humans)

Ragatha goes in the door where she abstracted, and deals with Jax's sadism and rage by allowing him to hurt her as much as he wants, but still being firm and honest about what she hates about him, until he realizes how pointless it is. Zooble goes in the door where they abstracted, and deals with Maid Jax's gender issues by relating/understanding. Gangle goes in the door where she abstracted, and tells Jax he can't keep putting on a comedy mask. This part is so perfect it seems like it's how the movie was supposed to go originally, idk

He's going to share his power with everyone else.>Ending proceeds similarly from there, although I'd also like something where people go to Gangle for help with adventures and designs because she's so artistic and creative. In the ending or the credits, we see Jax going from miserable to happy, joining in more and more. It would show him getting more in touch with his feminine side in an ambiguous way that could indicate he's trans, or has some other gender thing, or is just working through his issues with women

You could probably work some of those in somehow (like Kinger talking more about Scratch's abstraction at the beginning as part of the brain scan reveal) but doing so might go beyond the scope of just fixing episode 9.- The other abstractions probably shouldn't be fixable since their story is about grief. What you could do, instead of fixing them, entering them and resolving their issues puts them completely to rest, gives an opportunity for goodbyes, and removes the abstraction from existence. And Jax only managed to remain because he was so fresh, and even then he might have been changed somehow by it.- To address the complaint that the brain scan revelation wasn't impactful enough, you could have Zooble and Gangle take it the worst. They react in opposite ways, with Zooble despairing and raging about it, angry at Caine for activating them and putting them in this situation. Gangle on the other hand, sinks into depression and dissociates similarly to Jax (which I feel is appropriate because she was the character closest to him before Pomni arrived and it gives them more to talk about in the abstraction)
Jax was never actually improving or healing before ep 9 you guys just convinced yourself that he was.
