The comic book has so much potential to be an amazing narrative medium. I feel that we've only scratched the surface up until now. Will we ever see the medium truly bear fruit?
>>154590427Probably never.
>>154590427>I feel that we've only scratched the surface up until now.Quite the opposite. I think that we explored it and showed its potential, up until the 2000s. But since that decade people are convinced that comics are just sequential movies or shows. A show was canceled early, or the creator wants to tell more stories? Comic book. Do you want to pitch a movie, sell the concept. Comic book. For example you can see how they try to simulate movie scenes trying to be either impactful or funny by repeating panels. That's lazy and unoriginal. And genres or the industry aren't the problems, you can see this in indies and comics that try to be deep. The writing is another factor. It's fundamental, the visual aspect isn't enough. And modern writers AND artists can't write. I don't think that we already did everything you can do with the medium, but I wouldn't say that we didn't reach the top, multiple times.
>>154590972Sauce, and where can I read it?
>>154590427Yes, but only in manga has the pictures+text artform reached its potential. MAYBE French comics too but nothing written or illustrated by Americans will ever be good. Might as well accept it now.
>>154591553The european market make worse comics than the americans.
>>154591577But they make better ones than the Americans too. Higher highs, lower lows
>>154591589>Higher highsDefinitely not.
>>154591605What's the best American comics in your opinion? I need to see if we are arguing on the same frequency. Maybe I am wrong
>>154591623You are wrong.
>>154591405I don't think we've been anywhere near the top. Comics were generally better before, but they have always been constrained by some factor or several. Get yourself writers and artists who know what they're doing, use methods that work from around the world, and then you'll start getting somewhere.>>154591412"The Adjustment Of Sydney Deepscorn" by Barron StoreyTales From The Edge! # 1, June 1993>>154591553They're definitely ahead of the curve. They seem to learn from the best of each generation. I wish we had that here.

>>154590427When the great mass of people are free to include art among their contributions we’ll barely recognize today’s world
>>154592535Wat
>>154592535No
>>154592535In English?
>>154590972Is this supposed to impress me
>>154590427nah
>>154591662Could you atleast prove it?
>>154594731He's just a shitposter. He likes to gainsay, but never elaborates.
>>154593811No, but it seems like you're impressed but don't want to admit it.It's just lines on paper, bud.
>>154590427No one who talks about comics as a medium actually cares about comics. Prove me wrong.
>>154592535We already don’t. The great mass has made up most contributions in the past 15 years, and look where that’s gotten us. Can you honestly say the media of today is recognizably on the same level as that of 15 years ago? Of course today will be unrecognizable to our future. The only question is if it’ll look better or worse.
>>154596009Why would someone talk about the medium of comics if they didn't care about comics?
>>154596613To that anon, caring about comics means caring about superheroes.
>>154594731Can you prove the opposite?
>>154590427>The comic book has so much potential to be an amazing narrative medium.Had. Before video games emerged. Now, comic books are considered inferior because video games offer consumers much more interaction than comic books ever did. The only way comic books can survive is by merging with visual novels and allowing readers (or players?) to assume the role of the protagonist. People no longer want to read stories about characters; they want to BE the main characters in these stories. That's why comic books, manga, and literature in general are dying mediums. With more and more people falling prey to the main character syndrome - assuming that everyone else besides them is an NPC and they are the only player in their game of life - comics have no future on their own.
>>154598621Congrats on being retarded.
Check out experimental and abstract comics.
>>154598621The potential is still there.
>>154600307Unrealized potential.
