Why did Woody's Roundup get cancelled, /co/?
was it seriously because of the space race?
>>
>>154595717
It never really was cancelled, stinky pete just lied to guilt trip woody. You can even hear the ending in the background at 2:26.

>stinky pete just lied to guilt trip woody
But Jessie believed it was canceled too. She mentions it before they escaped the airplane. I don't think Pete would be able to gaslight her on the matter.
>>
>>154595717
Stinky Pete blames Sputnik (1957) but the Western genre didn't become passe until like the 70s.
>>
>>154595821
Huh, I never noticed. Would make sense if Pete lied about it to get Woody to believe that children always move onto new shiny things to convince him that he'd be better in a museum than played with by a kid.
>>154595919
It's possible he could have. Pete was never played with or cherished by a child, so crab in a bucket mentality in play with not wanting Jessie to leave
>>154595931
That and Sputnik was a satellite, not a spaceship. A satellite launch alone wouldn't have been enough to convince kids to abandon the Western genre.
>>
>>154595931
The genre did still peak commercially in the 50s.

Do you mean cancelled as in the show was removed or cancelled as in they were no longer making new episodes but having them rerun on channels?
>>
As a kid I thought that the series’ finale of Woody’s Roundup was literally interrupted by the special report news broadcast announcing Sputnik. And then maybe the network just never re aired it.

Ooh! Ooh! It's my turn to post it!

>CBS figured that only little kids and old people were watching shows that take place in the country
>axed all of these popular country shows because neither of those groups has money to spend on sponsored products

Neat. So this is like the 70s version of when a kids’ network cancels a show that’s hugely popular with manchildren because it doesn’t fit their intended target demographic.

i always found it weird how Jessie or was it stinky pete who turns off the TV before the episodes concludes as if they have watched it before. So this whole theory of it not actually being cancelled is weird. But I guess it makes sense given how they cut to Woody singing you got a friend in me unprompted

"Pecos Bill" Cooper was the creator and lead puppeteer of "Woody's Roundup." During the filming the final episode of the sixth season he learned that the network was planning on ending the show. IN a fit of rage, Cooper took the Woody puppet and fled the studio. The final episode was finished using a makeshift Woody puppet made from spare parts and other puppets. Unbeknownst to Cooper, the network was planning an animated version of "Woody's Roundup" with the intent of using the same actors. However, after Cooper's stunt, the network replaced the show with the cartoon "Spaceman Sam and his Space Cadets." The network and Cooper would frequently butt heads over Cooper's use of the original Woody puppet at public events, culminating in a lawsuit where the judge ruled that while the network owned the show, the puppet was originally created by Cooper and belongs to him. However, he was not allowed to use the name "Woody's Roundup" or any of the characters. Afterwards, Cooper always referred to Woody as "The Sheriff" at appearances.

Im surprised they never tackled the idea of reboots with a woodys roundup revival

We saw the buzz franchise expand
>>
>>154595821
There is nothing about this clip to indicate it was the final episode, it could have just as easily been the ending to any previous episode.
>>
>>154595931
But this is the kids demographic. They're always after the new hotness, while adults can usually hang onto old comforts for longer.
>>
It actually makes a fair bit of sense that the toy museum over in Tokyo was so willing to pay any price to get a full Woody collection. Puppet shows like Gerry Anderson's work had a lot of staying power over there, and I can imagine Woody's Roundup being more fondly remembered and even rerun consistently on Japanese television.

Most of the big popular Western shows in the US, especially those targeted at younger viewers, *were* cancelled by the mid-60s. However, this trend predates Sputnik by several months: Lone Ranger and the Roy Rogers Show were both cancelled in the Summer of '57, about 3-4 months prior to the launch of Sputnik. Rin Tin Tin, Zorro, and Davey Crockett were all cancelled by '59, Howdy Doody (which Woody's Roundup takes most of its inspiration from) was cancelled in '60, Maverick in '62, Rifleman in '63, Rawhide by '65, etc. However several shows like Bonanza and Gunsmoke) persisted until the early 70s.

While the space race certainly contributed to the decline in Western shows, the shift was already well underway by the time Sputnik launched - television was around ten years old, talking pictures almost thirty, and the Western genre had absolutely dominated American media for a pretty sizeable chunk of that time. People wanted something new, and science fiction and modern action pulp were gaining traction.

I'm still baffled how good the finnish dub of Toy Story was. I guess it's the directing. I saw 5 last week and the dubbing sounded like shit, even with the veteran voice actors.

One day while Andy was masturbating, Woody got wood. He could no longer help himself! He watched as Andy stroked his juicy kawaii cock. He approached Andy which startled him and make him pee everywhere on the floor and on Woody too. Being drenched in his urine made him harder than ever! Woody: "Andy Senpai! I'm alive and I want to be INSIDE OF YOU." Andy: "Oh Woody Chan! I always knew you were alive! I want to stuff you up my kawaii ass!" Woody grabbed a bunch of flavored lube and rubbed it all over his head Woody: "Oh my! It's cherry flavored lube! Cherry is my favorite! Woody then stuffed his head up into Andy's tight ass! The other toys around the room watched intently as Woody shoved his head back and forth into Andy's nice ass, continuously making a squishy wet noise. The other toys also became aroused and they all gathered around Woody and Andy and started to urinate all over them, and then they started to masturbate. Andy: "Oh my goodness, Woody Chan! You are churning my insides up so well! Your nose is stimulating my prostate! OH YES! All the other toys became so aroused by this, that they could not help themselves anymore! They pushed Woody completely inside, and they all went inside. All of them wanted to be inside Andy's nice round ass. Andy: "No wait guys! My ass cannot hold this much! I'm getting so full! All the toys went inside of poor squirming Andy and pretty much, he was beyond full, and died from having his insides completely damaged. The mother came inside and found Andy, dead with a huge ass hemorrhage on his anus, with a HUGE belly full of toys.

IIRC the Spic dub of TS1 was so good that Lasseter gave a letter congratulating the team for their work.

Woody's lifestyle led to too many scandals.

At least he wasn't crossdressing, like certain FBI director.

Why do you think he came back for 4 and 5? He blew all his money on hookers and blow.
