Cool song.
>>
what was the point of making this show animated
it could be live action and nothing would change

Don't have to keep recasting children once they age out of the role.
>>
>>154595987
you could say the same about king of the hill, but i doubt it would have done as well live action. better question is what was the point of having this show and all grown up

The funny art and expressions in koth add to the humor. With as told by ginger, the horrific klasky csupo artstyle actively holds the series back. Just compare this art and animation to contemporary shojo anime that were airing at the same time. It's like nickelodeon wanted this show to fail. The thing to is it's actually well written with many great characters. With a more appealing artstyle it could have been an all timer beloved classic like AtLA is.

KC was all the rage in the mid late 90s and early 2000s due to the success of Rugrats
Their shows were doing marginally well before SpongeBob started to peak
>>
This is a fucking great show. Practically in a class of its own. Fucking iconic.
>>
I groaned whenever this came on, boring ass school girl bullshit.

even in a grounded setting where nothing whacky happens, animation is still useful for granting total control over everything that happens
every expression, outfit is intentional, and every background is intentionally made

live-action is going to have to make concessions to reality
not just the obvious ways like "you cant fly in real life" but also actors growing up, actors not being available, light not shining the way you want, only sets already constructed can be used

>they hated him because he told the truth
As a boy with an older sister I watched a few of these shows, and while I legitimately couldn't figure out teen girl drama, I still thought Lizzie McGuire was basically this show but better in nearly every way (except for Lizzie/Kate not ending up like Ginger/Courtney).

i avoided this show because it looked exclusively for girls, but when i gave it a chance it was good. the art style is still unappealing, especially for a dramatic series.

this studio was at their peak when making stuff like ahh real monsters and the men in black series. rugrats worked because babies are weird looking and gross anyway
>>
>>154596198
That was true in the early seasons, but later they did stuff that would be difficult for a sitcom TV show, like the episode with the pork processing tycoon or the skydiving episode or 'Bill crashes out and commandeers a tank from his army base'
>>
>>154599839
even discounting obviously fantastical moments like stealing a tank, things like hitting a deer with a car, or a car getting rammed by a train, work better in animation

you would almost certainly not see the deer and bobby in the same shot in live-action for numerous reasons including safety of the actors
but in animation, you can show the actual dead body of the deer and have them move it around
you wouldnt see stuff like that in live-action outside of prestige shows like breaking bad
>>
>>154595987
true. the artstyle is so ugly
>>
>>154595970
Mostly only watched it because my older sister did. Was only 6 when it started airing, so I didn't get it much, but hey, we still enjoyed it together.

I know the show gets shit on for its art style and being for girls. But it's truly a gem and holds up surprisingly well.

It does a great job at tackling some tough topics for young teens that sometimes ended messily. Makes me wonder if such a show could even exist today given how everything favors short form content with happy endings.
>>
>>154596258
Nah, the ugliness works in its favor. It's not some stylized presentation of beautiful people, it's lives of ordinary people.
>>
Courtney was a much better friend to Ginger than Dodie ever was.

That episode with the teacher passing away was pretty bold honestly.
>>
>>154596696
The style worked for rugrats and even wild thornberries and rocket power, but girls don't want to look at these ugly ass character designs, girls like watching shows that look pretty and cute and feature attractive people-aka sailor moon

Miranda is the most self aware of the cast and therefore has the most human-like appearance.

So who wins in a "biggest bitch" competition? Jodie from ATBG, Dijonnay from the Proud Family, or the reigning champ, Peggy Hill from KOTH?
>>
>>154605399
Peggy is mostly just an idiot. Honestly it's kind of a tossup; I used to say Jodie but now we have an entire sequel series of Dijonnay being a shitty friend.

Because the creators were a cartoon studio. Even if Nickelodeon had thought of turning it into a live-action, it would have been toned down; even Clarissa Explains It All, which is vanilla, had pushback before being approved.

There are a lot of things you can get away with in a cartoon.
