does the comic version of apocalypse actually goes as hard as the 90s cartoon? and if yes what are the best comics to read with him?
>>154597864>ask question about comics on /co/ >get zero replies
>>154598002Comic book nerds never answer questions about supervillains or compile lists of their best appearances, this thread was started by a madman.
>>154597864>>154598002>>154598119sadly most threads here are shills and little else. You'll have a X-men 97 thread suspiciously reach the bump limit with poorly stringed reply chains that are not even hiding it's one person but then you'll have threads like the OP that just don't move even though it relates. And the answer to you question just pick and read one of his arcs from the 80s through 00s and leave it at that. Big A has a massive issue that his larger than life threat makes it the moment he is defeated he's just a jobber and all the stories start to look the same. The only reason he worked as well as he did in the original 90s show was they slow burned his appearances and made his defeats ridiculously difficult to replicate such as involving time travel as the means to stop him. Most of the comic stories he just gets jobbed to try again later.
>>154598002>>154597864so you're just doing this every day now? fucking apocalypse threads of all thingsno, he doesn't "go hard" whatever that meant 20 years ago when you were younghe's a retard who gets his shit pushed in by literal children every time he shows up
>>154597864No. His actual villain appearances are pretty mild and he's hard carried by an alt-reality story.
>>154598305It's more artists don't know what to do with Apocalypse and he benefits from censors to get the word in
Read his original appearances in X-Factor, that was peak Apocalypse. After that they killed in in X-Cutioner's Song and he was benched for a few years, not counting the Age of Apocalypse AU event. The Twelve was awful.
>>154597864No not really they beefed him and galactus up in the 90s cartoons and stuff because nobody gave a fuck about the regular avengers enough for them to justify doing it for the villains that they tried hyping in the comics
>>154599885>he benefits from censors to get the word inWhat?
>>154597864Usually. When the writer likes him and has talent. But when hacks or the failing editorial needs a big bad guy to worf or be the surprise antagonist of whatever shit crossover they are doing he becomes little more then a darkside tier loud fart.
>>154599750Of course he is. If they treated him with the respect that his powerset and origin deserves him winning or straying beyond the xmen sandbox becomes a bad end for everyone. He can't win nor can he be trully competent.
>>154600015I disagree. The problem isn't Apocalypse's powerset or origin, it's that he's rarely given a scenario where he can win on a lesser level. All villains inevitably lose but they usually get situations that fans can point to where they got one over on the heroes or did something cool before losing. Every Joker story ends with him getting the shit beaten out of him by Batman, but there is a reason why no one calls him a jobber.
>>154598241I miss dyscordia a lot.
>>154600136Apocalypse's big wins were turning Angel into Archangel and infecting Baby Nate with the techno-organic virus.
>>154600136It's not about scenario where he can get lesser wins. The character has the potential to get millions of them and we see those smaller victories and hear of them constantly. The problem is that he's too powerful and his goal to concrete and terrible for him to ever win anything. There's like..what? Survival of the fittest? Needing a new body for some raison? That's it. The way I see it they have three choices. The real Apocalypse is still in a cocoon in some hidden temple healing from some great battle or creating his ultimate body. Or in space as the herald of/protector of the seed of new celestials. Or they go hard on the greatest shall survive and have him show up in various places thorughout marvel and have history with everyone. Bring up his ancient war against the vampires and have him give Blade a +50 kill all bloodsuckers sword. And have a conan and the barbarian view of magic and magicians. Even hint that he fought the ancient one or a full power ghost rider once or twice. Bring up the klan akkiba(sp?) and have them be a major threat in the underworld. His eternal battle against the High Evolutionary should be a big deal. A clash of ideologies. Show him watching other mutates and mutants across the world and show up in a few stories. He's not malicious in his interactions with them, he sees them as potentially powerful and will help them achieve greater power or make them into a horseman or potential body. Even show that he warred against cosmic beings in the past and beat them to save the planet. I like the idea that he knows of the inhumans and thinks they are beneath them but respects the power of blackbolt. He can't be the ultimate endboss if they keep having him show up at full power and get murked by losers and the xmen c team.

97 did a good job of making him seem cool because>alas only a coward feels mighty when stepping on antsIs such a good line I'm sure they stole it from something else. Dude had always been a jobber with a dumb costume. But at least he's not Mr Sinister who has a dumb name AND looks dumb
>>154600661Filtered
>>154600661He was repeating the line Magneto said to him in the previous episode.
>>154600578
>>154600721Exactly he stole it.
He was man handled by a robot named a synonym for dumbass. "I AM THE FITTES...wait, oh no, it's the robo-retard!" Really overrated.
Regarding Apocalypse, there's a sequence in the intro where Cyclops goes to shoot Apocalypse, but he grabs Angel instead and uses him to block the blast. Only Cyclops (who can obviously see this) just keeps blasting into his friend for like 2-3 seconds.
>>154600828Nimrod was famed for being the greatest hunter of some long extinct civilization. Nimrod being a joke for someone who couldn't find a clue with a flashlight a map and dotted line pointing too it is nearly a 100 years old at this point.

>>154600857Do you really think anyone is dumb enough to believe that?
>>154600874First king of Babylon actually
>>154600889Your poopdickchizo isn't real.
Yes, very clever reference to me using poopdickschizo frequently, so spooky
>>154597864Problem with comic Apocalypse is that they use him to job to the newest villain all the time. Probably the best Apocalypse run is Rick Remender's Uncanny X-Force and early issues of Uncanny Avengers volume 2

>>154597864I agree with most of the sentiment (regarding the problems with the character) in this thread although I will admit I haven’t read a lot of Apocalypse stories. I have read Age of Apocalypse though and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s not really the Apocalypse and the Marvel universe as we’re familiar with it but it’s a great story about Magneto, the X-Men and a few others coming together to overthrow Apocalypse and his minions tyranny over the earth. Would recommend but don’t know about stories regarding 616 Apocalypse.
>>154598002/co/ doesn't read nor care about comics, that has been true for most of its existence now.
>>154602618comics were killed by woke comics writers, nobody reads them anymore, not even people who like them enough to spend time talking about them here
>>154603160comics always sucked and died when better media formats came out. Nobody wants to follow a storyline that requires reading 10 different series at once, only for it to get rebooted at the end anyways

>>154598305Actually I made the one yesterday, not OP. I just genuinely wanted to talk about Apocalypse

>>154603160Nothing's stopping anyone from reading old comics. Only one person itt recommended reading his original appearances that they adapted for the cartoon.Though I can't really blame most people for never having read X-Factor, it was only ever popular during the mutant mania of the late 80s and early 90s.
>>154603509>Nothing's stopping anyone from reading old comicsHaving already read them stops most people. Only the severely low IQ and autistic can just endlessly live their life on repeat. I already know Xorn is Magneto, it doesn't have the same zip the second or third time around.
>>154603532The OP was asking for recommendations and obviously hasn't read them.
