I read the original Moore run, and Gaiman's book is kind of pointless. I really didn't like the apocrypha, which is far from being Gaiman's best work.

The last volume fucking sucked. Gaiman just abandoned it mid-volume and left Buckingham to do the writing as well.

His cancellation came at a point where he visibly had no love for comics left in him, quite similary to Warren Ellis.
