The thing is, DCAU Joker is actually an attempt at reconciling the edgelord, completely unsavory psycho Joker with the 'trademarks fish' wacky character that was more like Trickster. And they succeeded in doing so, mostly. There were moments in the DCAU where Joker was legitimately threatening and scary, but he wasn't just some shallow-as-paper psychopath either. So I don't really know where we went wrong to just have the edgy version in spades, despite the DCAU version being the quintessential to a lot of people. You'd think people would look at the beloved versions of the Joker, including the DCAU version, and use that as a benchmark, but apparently marketing to the edgy crowd makes more money or something.

More like New 52 Joker and how Joker has been since then. Death of the Family and leading into all the Batman Who Laughs shit. Just nonstop edgelord stuff. And now Absolute Joker too.
