Are Apocalypse's four horsemen often dead? I was just thinking about it, but is archangel fundamentally dead? is that why he has blue skin? when gambit and wolverine become four horsemen are they in essence dead?

so is this just Marvel's way of trying to tell us something by making all their flagship characters dead?

No, this was the only time the Horsemen were dead, and it's because Uncanny Avengers was an Avengers/X-Men mash-up, so this team was a mash-up of the Horsemen of Apocalypse and the Legion of the Unliving, a rotating cast of undead characters the Avengers have faced several times.

I don't think Daken, Grim Reaper, Sentry and Banshee really quality as "Marvel's flagship characters", either.
