There is a series of books I read called Destroyermen. The story is that during the early months of The Pacific War, two US Navy destroyers on the run from a Japanese fleet try hiding in a powerful and strange storm. When it quickly passes they begin to realize they are stranded on an alternate version of Earth. They soon become caught up in a massive war building between two different non-human early iron-age civilizations. There are fifteen books, a four book prequel spinoff that covers events alluded to in the back half of the series, and most recently a follow up novel. (not sure yet if more are on the way)I have looked for fanfiction of it but there isn't much. The only that was really on point was a standalone point-of-divergence fic set during a crucial moment of book two that was ok overall. However, there is a currently ongoing crossover fic with a strange Japanese multimedia called Kantai Collection. Even though I only understand maybe half of it, I'm finding it interesting enough. The premise (or my interpretation of it anyway) is that ships have souls. In response to an invasion of seaborn demons, the souls of museum ships and sunk warships have begun manifesting as living beings resembling young women who possess strange characteristics and powers on the water conforming to their old capabilities as ships. There is a tricky way to deliberately summoning more of them made harder by evil countermagic. During an attempt to summon two British warships sunk by the Japanese in early WW2, they instead accidentally summon the now 97 year old USS Walker from the alternate world. It becomes apparent to everyone involved that she is also originally from a third alternate world. It's a pretty random and bizarre combination but I like the story of a military locked in a supernatural war taking the time to study two different alternate universes. There is also flashbacks from USS Walker's previous life, including her soul's perspective of book events
