Our predecessor >>154528504Discuss all about comics produced and published on this sceptred isle! :D
This is the side of Judge Dredd they don't show you
>>154625187>That smile on DreddDude looks like he's in aggony
>>154626510Joseph Dredd is a happy jolly soul
>>154626791With a corncob pipe and a button nose and two eyes made out of coal?
>>154626847No
>>154625187>Judge Death>Judge MortisThat's redundant
>>154625187I want to read Strangehaven.
I've been reading through the Trigan Empire. It's great if you like cool drawings of stuff exploding.
>>154625187>ctrl+f "beano">0 results>ctrl+f "dennis">0 resultswe just not gonna talk about it?UK dennis the menace is superior to US dennis the menace in literally every way
>>154629066i found it got too repetitive and status quo based for myself, which is kind of the fault of the writers for establishing the entire Trigan Empire was dead before the book had started, so I was expecting a full Rise and Fall of Rome-style book, not Romen Sci-Fi adventures
>>154629066What's your favorite triganism?>And then... IT HAPPENED
>>154629637You've got to remember how it was published. It's not written to be binged, you read a strip here and there and the repetition doesn't grate so much.
off topic but do physical comics look better than digital because they're printed on bigger paper?
>>154629418US Dennis had much better art and character designs.
>>154632294I think Dennis' mom's really cute
Dan Dare had picture collages before Fantastic Four introduced such idea to the vulgar masses
>>154632863And entire pages of only text before Watchmen
>>154633007Frank Hampson probably foresaw this very thread in the 1950s too, a true visionary
>>154633007The Spirit did this too in the 40s and 50s.
>>154629066Couldn't get over that writing format. I gave up pretty quick.
>>154634838You are weak.
>>154634312It might take 500 years for us to get another Will Eisner
>>154629778yeah but even then the status quo just never shifts after the first arc i would have expected some minor changes. Why start the strip with a framing device of how every Trigan is dead and the entire planet is dead if you didn't plan on doing that?
Sadly, as everybody in Anglo world, they lost their edge around 2010.
DALEK DECEPTICONDALEK DECEPTICONDALEK DECEPTICON
>>154638490Foreshadowing Lee Sullivan's later Doctor Who fame
>>154639024Bisley is radical
Anyone remeber this comic Mytek The mighty? It's about a manlet with rage who steals a giant King Kong robot and fucks shit up
>>154638117I honestly don't think that. Several artists and writers of legendary status are living and unretired. Judge Dredd's creator John Wagner for example is currently having his work serialized at the Megazine.
>>154639539Yeah, his last work before he retires
>>154639556Well, that would still be way after "around 2010" :P
>>154639424Valiant was lair to many peculiar ideas
>>154639405I'm not a fan of his post-90s work.
>>154641080It's OK to have bad taste
>>154641396Look at how much better this >>154639024 looks.
>>154642437It is a downgrade but it's not particularly bad
Hammerstein is a really funny name. How many other robots with Jewish names exist?
>>154643675No but I've seen robots with Italian names! (Along with any other latin Transformer)
>>154639809wut
>>154642462I didn't say it was bad. I said I'm not a fan.
>>154625187I'm fond of how Dan Dare is there despite not being part of the magazine's lineup for over 35 years and Rebellion Developments not even holding the license at that point
>>154645796Is he intentionally obscured because of the license? I mean, who even pictures him with that suit?
>>154646637That's how I know him.
>>154644586The Valiant comic had a lot of weird strips in it
>>154625187Might be a good place to ask, does anyone know of a British fantasy comic that follows the adventures of a goofy looking lizardman/kobold? He had a six shooter revolver, his companions changed over time but one of them was a robot that came back from the future and later on there was a guy who wore armor in homage to that robot trying to pretend to be him. Also there was a weird animal that pulled a cart that ran like the dickens when he put a starfish on it.
>>154646637I don't know man, Judge Hershey is also obscured
>>154648735I'm not sure that was a UK comic but it rings a bell. Was it SnarfQuest by Larry Elmore by chance?
>>154648581Is that the one with Janus Stark?
>>154650835No. This one was published in Smash!
>>154649706so are a lot of the bit characters from strips
>>154625187The Brits have been fighting WW2 for decades after the actual war ended.
Jet-Ace Logan was a Dan Dare knockoff, down to the overweight comic sidekick.
>>154649766jesus wept that's it, that's fucking it, thank you so much.
>>154652580One of many
A British comic that has never been mentioned in websites like these as it was popular in the mid -late 2000's Beano and I've now realised that they actually have printed the rest of the stories that were in the Beano, the BeanoMAX (an attempt at doing a spin-off Boy's magazine unlike The Dandy who actually turned into a Boy's Magazine for a few years), the Summer Specials and the Annuals in graphic novel format several years later.
hello i am indian
>>154653916Dan was very popular in his day
>>154639024slaine is the nortubel of 2000ad
>>154655451Isn't Slaine just Conan but Mills focused more on Irish myth stuff and his hatred of the Roman Empire?
>>154655907Every sword and sorcery character is "Conan but..."
Oh Lord
>>154625187lol, she looks like a female Alfred E Neuman.
>>154649766Need to check this out.
>>154629418You mean Ennis the Menace
>>154658363Ennis is so based for this.
>>154658620Is he, though
>>154658731Yes he is
>>154656731Kinda surprised 2000AD isn't on this chart since books like Battle and Action are
>>154625187I may get this one.
