>this film broke The Rock’s ego so badly, the effects of its failure continue to linger to this day
>>154627756>he legitimately wanted to be billed as black adam but only if he could dethrone superman while having nothing to do with shazam (originally captain marvel but DC cucked to the mouse lawyers) he really did try to book it like a wrestling show lol
>>154627756this movie felt like three movies stapled together.
>>154627834I mean it was one of his first pivots after this film failed
>>154627756That he even managed to maintain an ego is kind of impressive. His break out was the Scorpion King.
>>154627853It's like a half decent Dr Fate/JSA/ movie squashed by a bad Rock movie.
>>154627834Nobody wanted to have anything to do with Shazam and Zachary Levi.
>>154627756That tweet after queens death will forever be a classic.
>>154628798It's fake.
>>154627834I'm convinced that the blurred lines between reality and fiction that is common in pro wrestling kayfabe is just not good for people with a huge ego. I vaguely recall him making some big announcement that got walked back immediately because it was just him talking out of his ass and hoping that reality would bend to his will.
>>154627756How'd it do compared to Superman at the box office?
>>154629367lol.
True story
However flawed Black Adam was, it’s undeniable WB ran a massive smear campaign against it and the Rock after it underperformed in the box office, as they did with all the remnants of the pre-Gunn DC projects. I still remember how dirty they did Patty Jenkins.
>>154630247Did they think he was trying to muscle in on DC films and they viewed him as a potential threat? I can see why they would react that way if so. But there's no guarantee their beliefs were right.
>>154630247the rock tried to take over the entire dc empire and worked with his agent/wife (who also reps cavill) to recenter the entire line around him and cavill. they delayed numerous films and caused multiple rewrites, recastings and on and on. a decade of development hell for black adam because of this shit. and then it failed.
>>154627756The hierarchy of power in the DC universe did change
>>154630431They gave him carte blanche in hopes that Black Adam would save the DCEU, and when it didn’t, they threw him to the lions to prop up James Gunn’s reboot by smearing everyone still attached to the DCEU.>>154630474>the rock tried to take over the entire dc empireHe tried to launch his own mini-universe of Black Adam and Black Adam spinoffs, and did indeed try to pull Henry Cavill’s Superman into his corner, but he never wanted to control all of DC and have the entire universe revolve around him.>they delayed numerous films and caused multiple rewrites, recastings and on and onThis is demonstrably false. The only film affected was Shazam 2, and they knew very early into production they wouldn’t be able to use Black Adam as a villain.
>>154627756the rock should have retired 15 years ago
taking roids, hgh and eating excessive calories to bulk up in your 50s is a really fucking stupid ideaif he hadn't he wouldn't look like a withered husk and have heart problems right now
>>154627834DC was distancing Black Adam from Captain Marvel looong before The Rock got signed on, and that version of Black Adam(the first and really only time the character was popular) was largely separated from Cap, being more a JSA character. That's the version The Rock was sold on, Black Adam the general DC villain. It's fucked to say, but Black Adam's value to DC was largely as a Superman level thread that was a villain. They could care less about his relationship to Captain Marvel and largely ignored it in the 2000's where they could. Billy barely factors into this 2006 miniseries until the end.The Shazam movies were doomed on a conceptual level because the whole point of the character is to be the idealized adult a kid would want to be. What kid wants to be Zachary Levi in a muscle suit? It kinda worked in 1, but by 2 he looked old as hell, while Billy's actor looked healthy and was basically an adult. It looked like a downgrade for him to transform into Cap.
>>154628770>Nobody wanted to have anything to do THE most successful capekino of the decadeWhy do you lie?
>>154630727The Rock's career really should've had it's prime in the 2000's, but they avoided muscular movie stars and traditional action movies at the time in favor of snively scrawny Jewlikes and prettyboy action stars. I know zoomzooms hype up 2000's movies like Transformers, but Shia Labeaof's brief push is exactly what I mean, he's a weird little dork, not some All American guy or muscle mountain, but the guy who would've been the weirdo friend in an 80's or 90's movie. Or a comedy lead. Not the lead in an action movie. The roids bought him an extended career that lucked into making him a highly paid star for like 7 years, long after it seamed he's never go anywhere. The 2010s had a revival of the muscular action hero for a bit, albeit in shitty forgettable action movies. He might be burned out from all that now, but it's inevitable, a muscular action star in their 50's is laughable. Even Arnie stopped showing off his physique as much in the late 90's. He still makes movies but no one really cares.
>>154627834>i'll play the villainous character but i don't want him to be a villain
>>154631258Black Adam's most memorable era comes from when he was an anti-hero.
>>154628919>I'm convinced that the blurred lines between reality and fiction that is common in pro wrestling kayfabe is just not good for people with a huge ego.No need to be convinced, that kayfabe shit is totally corrosive to a guy's mental health. Add to that the shitty 'roids, the painkiller addictions, the concussions, the other assorted drugs, the social media, the dealing with Vince McMahon, and you have a recipe for psychological disaster.
>>154631336Nice choice of cover.
>>154631342I meant to say "demonstrably", not "totally" but it still applies.
>>154627756No, it was getting mogged by Vin Diesel that buck broke his mind.
>>154627756It was the era when he was super juiced. I wonder if it was for Black Adam. Then his heart gave in, and he had to lose all the muscle. jesus
>>154630622They threw him under the bus before the movie was out. DC guys were really asshurt that the movie did as well as it did inspite of the smear campaign.
Apparently he was the one pushing for a live action Moana remake. He got his money, now Disney can deal with the loss. What a dick.
>>154627756the funny thing is that it was one of the better performing dc movies considering how many historic flops they've had
>>154632216And thats why they hated him. It had real organic heat and would have kept the dceu going for a few more years. But...you sort of understood where they were going after aquaman 2 came out.
>>154631104>Black Adam's value to DC was largely as a Superman level thread that was a villain. They could care less about his relationship to Captain MarvelI mean it still kinda is, he's an absolute superman villain currently with no billy in sight.
>>154632142If Moana is what kills Disney Live Action Remakes, I'll praise him as a hero.
>>154631207>most successful
>>154632334Nice clickbait thumbnail but I'm not going to give your channel views.
It would have done better if it wasn’t so racist. Should’ve been titled Adam of Color.
>>154630474>hey delayed numerous films and caused multiple rewrites, recastings and on and on. a decade of development hell for black adam because of this shit. and then it failed.Name them.
>>154627834I was fine with black adam not being the main villain of Shazam 2 because I'm tired of cape movie fights just being mirror matches.
>>154631336Yeah but it was built off the fact he had an actual blend of heroic and villainous traits as well as a history as an out and out villain. The movie meanwhile makes his only anti-heroic trait the fact that he doesn't really care about killing bad guys, all of whom are irredeemable mercenary scum. Oh and he's not super friendly with the actual heroes mainly the one who started picking fights with him the second they met. It's so fucking toothless especially since you transparently see the bones of the story where Black Adam is fighting an American Occupation but the movie has no fucking balls and pivoted to an unaffliated PMC group with no bosses. Just ignore Amanda Waller too, nothing suspicious about the fact she's the one who called in the JSA after Adam broke free and killed a bunch of mercs. If it was actually trying to pay homage to the Anti-hero era of Black Adam....he would've sat his ass down on Sabbac's throne, told the JSA "Thank You, now get the fuck out of my country" and all the Khandaqi people cheer for him.
>>154632334Fake.
>>154627834Carny is as carny doesI look forward to him having to do Wrestlermania every year because there's no more legends to trot out of retirement
>>154634362>there's no more legends to trot out of retirementHey, what's Ric Flair? Chopped liver?
>>154628770well then don't insist on playing a shazam character?
>>154632256I wonder if Aquaman 2 could've been more than a moderate success if it hadn't come at the tail end of WB shitting out the 4 movies they had left in the DCEU slate all in one year. And didn't come out well after WB had already announced they were doing a total reboot. And didn't have its production fucked with over things like which Batman to have make an appearance, only to scrap that entire subplot in post production.Oh yeah, and if it didn't have the co-star of the first movie needing to be mostly shelved after being proven in a televised civil trial to be a massive piece of shit.Actually, it's kinda admirable that they still pulled over 400 million off of it.
>>154634494Black Adam is barely a "Shazam" character in DC since the 2000's. He very likely has more appearances outside of Captain Marvel/Shazam comics than within them
