I have just finished reading the entire Spider-Girl story (original series, Amazing, Spectacular and The End). I have enjoyed it immensely and want to start a discussion about what we consider were the strengths and weaknesses of the series. Also, I hear Mayday appears in other Spiderverse type stories but they aren’t written by DeFalco, I wanted to find out if those who know would recommend them or if they would undermine the story already told?Personally I found the characterization to be fantastic and I enjoyed how it kept surprising me with character development (Normie Osborn, Moose, Brad Miller) and I found May to be a really engaging protagonist. However I do feel that sometimes certain plot points were being repeated (Peter and MJ embracing May’s heroics) and some were inexplicably forgotten when they had potential (Moose thinking Courtney was Spider-Girl, Felicity Hardy trying to be Mays sidekick, Meagyn Brady, Moose hating Spider-Girl).Thoughts?
>>154632221Defalco has taken a dim view of how Slott wrote her to the point it's arguable it wasn't her at all, take that into consideration if you want to colour your experience with anothers writing.
>>154632221Yeah I'm a really big fan too. There's something about it that felt fresh and new but also like it knew how to play the classic formula. I generally consider it the true continuation of Spider-man
>>154632571Just consider ASM finished at 500 and pick up Spider-Girl.Everything after 500 is apocrypha.
>>154632221why didn't they ever put her into the 616 like every other popular charter they create outside the 616?
>>154632519What do you personally think?
>>154632671I gotta concur with DeFalco, I think Slott prioritises his idea for the plot ahead of what existing characters with distinct characterisation would actually do.It's why one of the greatest criticisms of Superior is how everyone but especially MJ are holding heavy idiot balls for the plot to work, when prior characterisation has her able to identify the Chameleon and Kraven as imposters with little difficulty, let alone a date.
>>154632735I appreciate your frankness, maybe I’ll avoid Spider-verse. From what I understand she also appears in “Spider-Island: Warzones!”, and that is written by DeFalco. Would you say that is more consistent with the Mayday we know?>>154632571I know right! They nailed that balance perfectly, it kept it exciting but familiar too
