Anybody get good deals lately? I just got the TMNT Last Ronin slipcase set for $55.
I bought like 400$ of useless junk that will no where near last me 20 hours so now i owe like 600$
bump give me a sec
my shelf
>>154633275And my absolutes. As for your questions, formats are a bit weirdly different but I do like the definitive editions (I think theyre called masterworks in america but definitives have a highest amount of pages and issues). Definitives are bigger than the average but smaller than the asbolutes. Other than that I do like hardcovers (easier to read on my book support)
I just today ordered the Superman Brainiac reborn omnibus. Glad to fill that gap between triangle and exile.

>>154633315>GRANDE ASTROS SUPERMANLol
Did anyone pick up Byrne's X-men Elsewhen. I was looking at it but I don't think I much like the colors.
>>154634263I saw the colors and did a 360.
>>154634308shame, I was pretty excited for it.
>>154633169How did you waste $40]
>>154634753
>>154634753f
>>154635053>>154635045The only waste you posted was a Carol Danvers book. But you could still use that for fire kindling, during the winer months. Just read your comics bro.
The new crisis on infinite earth absolute is so nice, probably my favorite absolute other than my Kingdom Come one.
>>154635404I was pretty content to keep my deluxe edition but it really looks nice and I'm interested in that making of book.
>>154635045>>154635053ugh
Hey I love George Clooney
shelf
>>154635404Post pics, including the binding and eye of that book.
>>154636361
>>154633315>>154634063Is that an exact translation?
>>154637728Sure, give me a few minutes
>>154637728>>154639358First pic, here's the binding. So far pretty good. I only stretched the binding once, and not very meticulously. I was too excited to start reading it to care all that much.
>>154639483>>154637728Next, the paper. This is a very infamous, spoiler heavy page I happened to flip to so it's spoilered. The paper stock is a white matte paper stock. Feels identical to the paper stock in absolute Watchmen. That's actually a great book to compare to, because the size of AW is nearly identical to the size of ACOIE. I will say, the colors look nicer in ACOIE. In particular, the yellow used is super bold even on matte paper. Which is good since yellow is used a lot in this book.
>>154639520Here's another Watchmen comparison. Even with my crappy lighting, I think the color improvement should be obvious. Just look at how much more saturated the yellow in Captain Marvel's collar is compared to Silk Spectre's clothes. The skin tones feel more natural too, not as pink as AW. I should mention I purchased both of these books new, and Watchmen I only got about 2-3 months ago. It was a sealed secondhand copy (The inner dust jacket says it's the sixth printing), you decide if sitting in a warehouse dulled the colors. I'm leaning no, because the paper stock is still nice a white, and the blacks are still strong.
>>154639579One last picture. Here's my Absolute watchmen eye, this time with more meticulous spine stretching. I can't promise this is what ACOIE could look like with more deliberate stretching. I've read watchmen before, so I didn't mind taking a good 10-15 to really get those pages as flat as I could, as well as stretching the spine mid-read. I haven't read Crisis, and I've been eyeing the new print for a while so when it finally arrived, I really just wanted to tear into it. I'm still not done.Gotta say, I'm appreciating just how wordy and dense crisis is. Even if it's a little hard to follow at times, I feel like I'm getting my moneys worth compared to modern comics or most manga, that have twenty words a page and can be finished in ten minutes. I'm spending about half an hour an issue on this, it's a comfortable little habit right now to spend and hour reading two issues before going to sleep. If you know of other good comics that are nice and wordy like this or Gaiman's Sandman let me know.
I rearranged everything recently.
>>154639696This is the other side of the shelf on the left.
>>154639696Some close ups. I swear it's not as dusty or stained or whatever those light patches on the shelves are in these photos. Trick of the light from the window and the flash at the same time I think.
>>154639768
>>154639781
>>154639792
>>154639802
>>154639810I won't dump the manga because that would be 7 or 8 more photos so I'll leave it there.
>>154639792>>154639802>>154639828Damn, now this is a collection. What are your favorite books in it? I'm still kicking myself for not getting Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck
>>154639916I would have said the Slaine deluxes but they've fucked it with the misprinted volume 3 that they're not doing a revised version of. Pages missing that they posted out as loose sheets of paper after the fact. Insane. So I guess it's the Swampy hardcovers. Glad I grabbed them when I did because every release of the run since has been getting worse and worse.
>>154640097Haven't heard of swampy, what's that?
>>154641158Swamp Thing.
>>154641171Ah. The Alan Moore run? Yeah, I want to get that box set coming out in november because it supposedly has unfucked colors. I saw the absolutes and it's a travesty what they did, why do publishers like to fuck with colors so much?
>>154634063Well, it is grande >>154638537Not really, theres not a exact translation for all-star here, grandes astros would be something like "great stars"
>>154641332The people complaining about the Absolute recolors are a bunch of poor fags who are pissy they couldn't afford the absolutes when they came out.
>>154641466I can afford them now and they still look like shit bruh
I wish I had space for more books, I've had to do purges way more than I want
>>154639696Are those bookshelves stacked on top of book shelves? Is that safe?
>>154641852Probably not but they've been up like that for 4 or 5 years now and they haven't fallen and crushed me to death yet. Did make some concerning noises when I was moving them into this new layout though.
I finally get to ask this, are used bookstores a common thing where you guys live? I was planning on going to 3 different ones across my city next month and just post interesting stuff I find in a dedicated thread for it.
>>154642251bump.
What's your white whale book, anons? For me, It's Omaha the Cat dancer as a complete collection. Why the FUCK is it so rare? The publisher still exists and the author is still alive.
>>154643133It was Tyrant but now I just have to wait for the kickstarter to deliver.
>>154641852>>154642211I think I have those same shelves. I was thinking of stacking them too, but the room has carpeting and I do NOT trust the shelves to stay stacked.
>>154643223Once you've got some weight on the the top shelves they aren't going anywhere. The bigger concern is that they rock side to side at the slightest touch (along their length, not as if they're going to fall forward). Need to fasten them to the one beside them to stop them from doing it too much.
>>154639483Be careful on handling that book, Anon, the binding is drying off.
>>154639810How are those folio books? I haven't seen them in person, and I've bought expensive stuff before (I love my Taschen Spider-Man), but the issues collected in a lot of them seemed strange, and I'm wondering what the colours are like.
>>154643847Get them in Folio's sales and they're a nice novelty to flick through. I wouldn't pay full price for them though.
>>154643304Yeah, I noticed that after posting the picture. It's a brand new book, WTF DC?
>>154639828>>154639810how do you afford your lifestyle and how many people live in your house?
>>154644170I have a do nothing work from home data analyst job where I sit on conference calls and do maybe 3 hours of actual work per week, and the fact I've converted half the living room into storage for my bullshit should answer the later.
>>154644316Yeah I could see why you'd be so into reading books.Sidenote, just how huge is that 2000AD series you have? About how many pages do they each have? You don't see 200 volume hardcover book sets very frequently.
>>154644344It's this:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_AD:_The_Ultimate_Collection200ish pages each but it varies volume to volume.
>>154644405Around 40,000 pages of comics? That's impressive. My biggest collection (The full Berserk deluxe set) is only maybe a quarter the length of that. How long did it take you to read through all of them?
>>154643133Whats a white whale book?
>>154644456It was a partworks subscription where two books would show up every month. Came out over 8 years, so wasn't like I ever had mountains of them sat there waiting to be read at any one time.
>>154644550I got the same series but I stopped it once the spines changed. I felt like I had enough by then.
>>154644470The one you've been hunting for, the one you desire the most. Like Ahab looking for a big dick.
>>154644550That sounds nice. I miss getting magazine subscriptions as a kid, it's fun having something regular to look forward to in the mail.
>>154639810based Tank Girl reader
>>154644855Haven't heard of tank girl, is it good?
>>154643133The one I'm really kicking myself over is JMD and Buschema Spectacular. I cannot believe that book sold out that fast and frankly it speaks volumes about marvels shitty ability to keep even their major characters available.
>>154645862Marvel drives me up the fucking wall with their printing practice. It's an embarassment. How is their comics branch even still running?
>>154645558That depends on if you enjoy the zany, Looney Tunes-esque way the comics work as they're more about marrying unique visuals with wacky characters than story. Some purist anons will tell you that only the early, punky, rebellious Alan Martin/Jamie Hewlett (co-creator of Gorillaz) stuff is worth reading, but I find fun things about the more recent publications too
>>154647112Sounds fun. How should I start reading it?
>>154647117The continuity is so lax that I don't think it particularly matters, having said that I started at the original 1991 an 1992 runs to get a feel of the character's original intent so I guess start there then see how you feel about later creative endeavors
>>154646712Like I get it if stuff sells out but it shouldn't be this quickly and if it does that should be a gigantic waving flag to print more.

I'm not sure if this the best place to ask but does anyone have any insights on the various "Celebration of 75 Years" and "Celebration of 80 Years" collections DC put out?In particular I'm interested in Superman, Batman, and maybe The Joker. I don't have a great knowledge or familiarity with anything predating the 90s but are the story selections in these collections actually good?
Last /shelf/ I mentioned that I was shipped the wrong book (The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told instead of The Greatest Superman Stories Ever Told) and it turns out that they both have the same ISBN which is annoying but explains why twice now sellers have given me Batman when I purchased the Superman one. It's fortunate that The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told is a good collection because I can probably gift these to some friends or students or something.
I wonder if that one guy form an earlier /shelf/ thread read "After the Incal", since I was talking about my critiques of the story.
DIE, /shelf/, DIE!

>>154656272instocktrades had it on sale for $15 so i grabbed it!>>154656294I read the first two or so issues a while back and i was enjoying it so i picked this up since IST had it discounted. I heard about the sequel and hope that is good too I know Mark Waid is hated here but I dont really care what writers/artists get up to in their personal lives i liked what ive read so far of this and decided to get the trade. I also enjoyed Waid/Samnee Daredevil
>>154656391>Mark Waid is hated hereHe's a great writer (Kingdom Come is one of my faves) but a deranged libshit, that's my stance
>>154656391>I know Mark Waid is hated here but I dont really care what writers/artists get up to in their personal lives i liked what ive read so far of this and decided to get the trade.>>154656442He may antagonize people on social media and be an outspoken libshit, but he's a damn better writer than almost everyone at Marvel right now and clearly actually likes superhero comics, I've never read a Mark Waid comic where it felt like he didn't intuitively understand the character he was writing, whereas that's been almost every major book at Marvel the last decade.

>>154659287The fact that DC Finests strive to not have holes (for the most part, fucking Static book) immediately catches my interest compared to epics that all are missing something, no matter what series you pick. If the X-Men was ever collected in such a neat, series-wide way then I'd go gaga
>>154659977I think Epics are still pretty good like that depending who you're collecting.
>>154659977DC'Finest has some blatant holes. The Spectre series limited the final three Wrath of Spectre stories. Neither Batman or Suicide Squad had the full mini cover during Millennium where they tramed up with Firestorm, Captain atom, and Spectre. Death in the Family omitted New Teen Titans 55, where Dick finds out about Jason's death and confronts Bruce. Blue Beetle didn't include BB #6, JLoA te return and Legend of Wonder Woman didn't include the necessary CoIE story pages needed to make sense out of the crossover issues. Red Skies infamously states it has the three part debut of Black Mask, which it doesn't.
