I thought that Mario movie was fine. A bit bland and safe, but no glaring flaws either (aside from training montage >>154635119 , it was bad). Meanwhile Sonic movie had higher highs, but lower lows. What I really liked about Mario movie is scenery, it was really great. Sonic games always had really cool locations, but they failed to show them in the movies at all. Meanwhile Mario games always looked rather boring to me, but scenery in the movies looked absolutely gorgeous, even the "real world" parts looked cool.

That was one of my biggest complaints about the first film in particular, it felt too focused with being a Hop-like film, and the second one had a completely unnecessary wedding subplot.
