I'm in an overthinking mood today. I think Stella has the potential to be a fantastic case study of a villainous woman who gets near total hatred despite having the same traits as the males. Traits that are romanticized for males but disdained in females. Stella however is much more nuanced just from her reactions and what isn't shown. Do you remember Stellas' first lines in the show? "You get up." Which from at face value coupled by her shape language, her obvious disdain and her selfishness with the covers spells out how neglectful this character is. But...Hold on. There's some things to consider. Child Octavia calls for both her mother and father for comfort meaning she doesn't seem to have a preference yet. Stolas differs to Stella which implies he's used to her calming Octavia. Stella in this moment cannot be performative. She has no energy to be. Meaning this is Stellas being the most genuine she's ever been. Which might mirror the root of her disdain for him. She wants Stolas to take charge. She's so dedicated to the lie that is their relationship that she will still sleep in the same bed to keep up the illusion. We know that Stella does not want Stolas turning Octavia against her and we know that Stella does NOT GIVE A SHIT about losing everything if Stolas were to be killed. I think Stella is purposely trying to set up her daughter to be in a position where she can have a life without subservience. This does not mean she's as close as Stolas is. But that might be because she doesn't have a choice. She's still an evil bitch but she has to be calculated. Everyone even her own brother assumes she's a bimbo. She can't be as openly affectionate and somehow I feel Octavia doesn't actually hate her. But knowing Vivzie she's probably just going to kill her off for disturbing the toxic yaoi. Her history with plot twists always involves absolving the characters she likes having done nothing wrong. And despite that yapping, I do NOT want that for Stella.

I think the read is that Stella never helped Via but I do like that it opens the door for there to be some depth to be explored. Like part of Via's frustration is that first her mother became distant early in life and now her dad has too in recent years. For as much shit as people give the writing, I do feel, at least in Helluva that they're pretty calculated in the things characters say and do.
