Based on what? I'd say he was culturally bigger back in 2008 when the Nolan films were at peak hype. Feels like things have been on a decline ever since DKR, simply because Batman has failed to have consistent/acclaimed cinema presence, and not in spite of it.

Why the fuck would anyone want a sequel to this, anyway? This movie was dumb as fuck and boring as shit. The Batmobile chase sequence was one of the most hyped parts of this movie and it isn't even that good. It's all extremely basic shots of cars driving in straight lines through explosions with le ebin orange/blue color filters on every scene. Arguably one of the worst batmobile sequences ever.

It probably has to do with whatever contract Matt Reeves signed plus how well The Batman did for WB in 2022 (taking into account post-COVID and WB's streaming push). I think if The Batman had did badly even by post-COVID standards, Gunn would've been pushing Brave and the Bold as the next film after Superman or Supergirl

I don't really buy it because it doesn't seem like he's got any beef with Gunn. I think part of it is because Reeves takes a while on things combined with other outside factors (Writers' Strike, Pattinson on Dune 3, some sort of personal issues Reeves was having)

Remember, Reeves was brought on board Batman in 2017 back when it was originally going to be a Ben Affleck Batman movie, COVID hit and delayed things further, and the movie was out in 2022

He's also an old man, older than Nolan, who gave them 3 Batman films in 8 years as well as two notable movies in the same time span. Nolan's career could've ended in 2010 at age 40 and he would've been a well regarded director. Reeves is 60 now,he's not gonna end up a golden goose, he's an old dog, not a work horse auteur.
