Adam and Eve are such good choices for villains in a show about Hell actually. Even the higher angels are becoming sympathetic to the damned and the closest being to God (Speaker) is very sympathetic. Making God and Heaven the villains is overplayed. Having the first humans (who are very much fallible HUMANS) be cruel and pigheaded and resentful of a legacy they view as failed is something I haven't seen before.

I've been trying to reconcile the fandom's tendency to paint Adam as this deeply loving father, because... I'm not sure the show really supports that reading. We get more implication of the opposite. Personally, I like the idea that neither Adam nor Eve were particularly good parents. Not because eating the fruit suddenly made them monstrous, but because they were quite literally the first humans. They had no parents of their own, no example to follow, no understanding of what raising children was supposed to look like. They were figuring it out as they went. I did briefly consider whether Adam's contempt for sinners was just him projecting disappointment over what became of humanity [ or even his own family ] but the more I thought about it, the less it held up. He never speaks about Eve with that sort of resentment, & the only child he ever really mentions is Abel (granted, through a hallucination, so take that with a grain of salt). Even then, it isn't exactly framed as a warm, paternal memory. More importantly, if Adam truly believed his children or grandchildren were suffering in Hell, wouldn't that come up? Wouldn't he ask where they were? Wouldn't there be some hesitation every time an Extermination rolled around?
