Everyone knows it's Butters (hehe) but if you need a refresher on the other two are the one with brown hair and freckles is Scott Malkinson and the blonde one with the hat is Pip.

But anyway as someone who grew up as a nerdy kid myself I've always felt pretty drawn to these type of characters. We sure get a lot of Butters (even more than Kenny) which is a good thing but I wish Scott Malkinson and Pip (yes I know he died in 201) were utilized better. I think the three of them together could've made a pretty good team.

I know both Pip and Scott represent Butters in different ways Pip being a sort of early version of Butters before Butters and Scott being a way to recreate the early seasons Butters magic because in later seasons Butters is actually kinda popular and not as mistreated by all the other kids anymore but I still personally think they're still unique enough from Butters to be their own thing. I remember Scott being especially good in Fractured But Whole and in the Basic Cable episode and Pip was excellent in the dodgeball episode as it showed a different, meaner side to him as well as the Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub episode where I enjoyed his chemistry with Butters.

Realistically I know Matt and Trey will likely never bring Pip back...and not because he's dead because South Park doesn't have many established rules and they don't take their own show super seriously plus if I recall correctly Jason came back from the dead in the background; but instead because Pip just isn't a popular enough character and I think even Matt and Trey said that they hated his character and made Butters to replace his role and make Pip obsolete.

I sure do hope for more Butters and Scott interactions though.

you forgot to mention the chemistry between butters and dougie, and pip and damien. didn't last long but i did enjoy them while it lasted. i found it pretty funny how pip was the only one actually nice to damien and then damien attacked him with his demon powers just to be popular lol. and i did like dougie in the simpsons episode where he served somewhat as a straight man figure to how erratic butters was acting and also when dougie attacked cartman as the coon and then cartman was all like ThAt FuCkInG hUrT yOu fUcKiNg ReTarD and then hit dougie back 3x harder
>>
>>154685493
>i found it pretty funny how pip was the only one actually nice to damien and then damien attacked him with his demon powers just to be popular lol
I hate to admit it but I actually did exactly this back in middle school (obviously without the demon powers though) where everyone was a dick to me both boys and girls except for this one kid who was more unpopular than me and he was actually a literal angel to me but somehow despite myself being extremely unpopular he was somehow way below me and people were actually bullying me even worse for being friends with him. And one day when this big group of tall and strong looking 8th graders showed up threatening to beat us up (and they have before) and without thinking about it I just started beating the shit out of my friend which surprised everyone but then my popularity status skyrocketed. And then I joined the group of bullies who would regularly beat him up and I actually became the leader of the bullies. At the time I thought I was awesome but looking back I feel horrible. He even tried to kill himself from all the bullying and everyone just laughed about it and eventually it got so bad he had to change schools and we were only about halfway through 6th grade. Poor kid. Hope he's better these days.
>>
>>154685604
YIKES that's some psychopathic behavior but you and the other bullies were in middle school so I guess you guys get a pass.
>>
>>154685387
Nerd would imply they are smart.
>>
>>154685886
Not really. The most literal and most correct definition of a nerd is a smart person with poor social skills but people also casually use it for any person who is a loser and not well liked by their peers. There's a reason the main divide in schools is jocks vs nerds. It's in other words the winner popular kids vs the loser unpopular kids.
>>
>>154685886
It means that they are loser wimps, in this case
>>
>>154685886
Butters is smart, he's just naive
>>154685493
Dougie was fine with blowing up a hospital. He's a crazy motherfucker.
>>154685387
They're the Melvin trio, thank you very much. And Butters is also a lot meaner, so someone like Scott or Pip sticks out better.
And I wish Pip got brought back.
>>
>>154685387
Couldn't disagree more. Butters was intended as a deeper character from the beginning while Pip and Scott were intentionally one-note made for just one very specific role. Scott and Pip really are just not on the same level as Butters. At best Scott and Pip are on the level of the minor supporting side characters who don't have very much personality such as Clyde or Tolkien but even that is a stretch as Clyde and Tolkien are much more versatile than Scott and Pip could ever be.
>>
>>154686124
>Scott and Pip really are just not on the same level as Butters
They could be but the writers are shit at using anyone outside Cartman and Butters
>Clyde and Tolkien are much more versatile than Scott and Pip could ever be.
Tolkien is only used for episodes around his race. He is not versatile at all.
>>
>>154686124
you're not necessarily wrong about scott and pip but that doesn't mean they can't be developed more
>>
>>154686251
>Tolkien is only used for episodes around his race. He is not versatile at all.
NTA but Tolkien is one of the main other kids outside the main 4 and Butters always being one of the most prominent kids who talks the most in large group settings. The most prominent of all of them would be Craig. That's why they're often referred to as "Craig's gang."
>>
>>154685387
Damn did they really have to perma kill off Pip? Like come on I know they weren't really using him anymore since like season 4 but I still enjoyed seeing him in the background as a reminder of early South Park. Especially when so many very minor background kids such as Jason, DogPoo, Kevin, Annie, Red, and Bradley stayed but Pip left.
>>
>>154686861
I know Craig's gang are prominent, but Tolkien himself isn't prominent.
>>
>>154685387
>Dougie erasure
Dropped
>>
>>154687218
not op but i don't remember a single thing about dougie. i don't remember him having a personality outside of just being butters's sidekick when butters was in his professor chaos mode and dougie was in his general disarray mode. i don't remember him being especially likable or funny. he wasn't even really in the background since he wasn't in the same grade level as all the other kids. and it looks like they just dropped him completely after a certain point
>>
>>154687208
All of Tolkien's best episodes are basically just Cartman episodes as well. This somewhat applies to Wendy as well but she has had at least some good episodes without Cartman's involvement.
>>
>>154687367
what personality traits does tolkien even have? it's like he's just a completely blank slate just exclusively used for race related issues. even stan who is the straight man of the show has way more personality than him. i bet it's very hard to find a person who has tolkien of all characters as their favorite. i've even seen some people with clyde or kevin as their favorite but not tolkien
>>
>>154687441
>>154687367
The Xitter fanbase can't really argue against this either. They just call people racist for it most of the time.
>>
>>154687441
>>154687508
Tolkien from the very beginning was completely based around his race. His original name was literally "Token Black" as in the token black character who has little to no personality beyond being Black. Kinda like Franklin from Peanuts who started this trend and since South Park is strongly based on Peanuts as an adult version of Peanuts it used the same trope...similar to how DogPoo was based on Pig-Pen the filthy kid from Peanuts. And then his new name "Tolkien Black" is also a play on words from the phrase token black. Plus his voice actor Adrian Beard was literally only picked because he was the only Black staff member in the studio.
>>
>>154687699
But the fans on Reddit or Xitter will insist he's "Super deep, bro!" Despite this
>>
damn i like how despite the op being about butters scott and pip of the 22 replies so far away half are all about tolkien instead lmao
>>
>>154686124

All this talk about Tolkien but Clyde ain't shit either. Clyde is more or less just a combination of Craig and Cartman but not nearly as funny and oh he cries a lot I guess.
>>
>>154685387
Pip does actually have a pretty strong cult following in the fandom to this day despite a strange amount of hate videos by ecelebs being spread around for like a year straight in 2022-2023. However, his individual episode has always gotten a lot of flack. I have seen quite a bit of fan animations and comics about the character, though granted a lot of it falls under the fujo side, but what doesn't in the South Park fandom these days? I honestly have always felt like something has been missing from the show since they got rid of Pip. He was one of the first side kids in the show to speak, one of the first to get episodes about him, and really represented that early South Park British inspired and parody humor. I have always held on to some small hope that one day they would bring him back even if it is foolish to think that. He will always be one of my favorite characters in the mountain town no matter how much time passes.

clyde is far more comparable to craig than to cartman. the only thing he really has in common with cartman is being labeled as the second fattest kid as well as very occasionally turning into a villain such as in the stick of truth and his future self in post covid but those weren't really regular episodes anyway since one was a video game and the other a episode about the future
now on the other hand clyde and craig are so similar that a lot of people even get the two of them mixed up together. like seriously every single day i see people confuse them with each other. both are sort of sarcastic monotone kids who often act as straight men figures but craig is better developed and more witty meanwhile clyde is a lot more plain in comparison. and now with craig being in a relationship with tweek clyde just fell even further behind. though i guess he was decent in the cred special
>>
Clyde sucks
>>
>>154688547
Clyde is horny. That also counts
>>
i know everyone will likely wanna crucify me for this but i do not care for timmy. his whole schtick of not being able to say anything other than his name is kind of annoying to me and i hate the sound of his voice. i'm not sure how popular timmy is as a whole but i find it kind of weird how i've never seen anyone say anything bad about him
>>
>>154688629
Holy shit I do sort of agree. I don't hate Timmy or anything but he doesn't really add anything to the show in my opinion and I wouldn't mind if he never appeared again.
>>
>>154688629
>>154688718
It's mostly for the disabled rep he got when he was first introduced.
>>
>>154688624
Wasn't that only for one episode? If I recall correctly it was really only in the Make Love, Not Warcraft episode where the others were playing the game meanwhile he was reading a dirty magazine or something like that. Can't recall any instances beyond that. Seems like the regularly horny kids are Kenny, Jimmy, and Butters. Kenny is...well Kenny. Jimmy literally had an entire episode dedicated to just his boner and in another episode said he had sex with his girlfriend in her vagina. And then Butters was more innocent but he somehow knew about how sex worked and explained it to Jimmy and then there was the whole creamy goo shit and shit.

>>154688629
>>154688718
>>154688812
He was one of the fastest growing South Park characters in popularity of all time. It's mentioned in the season 4 commentary for Tooth Fairy Tats 2000 that Comedy Central tried to stop Matt and Trey from creating him because they thought he would be seen as too offensive, but then overnight was so beloved that Comedy Central came back begging them to do more Timmy episodes and make more Timmy merch. Season 4 then became the Timmy season and he would be included with the boys in the ads. The reason he stopped appearing as much is because they had trouble writing around him only being able to say his name. There is possibly a timeline where Timmy stayed relevant and was beating Butters in popularity polls as crazy as that sounds today.
>>
>>154687699
Before then, Trey just voiced the guy for filler lines. You can hear it in season 2 or 3 with him trying to put on some deep dopey "black kid" voice.
>>
>>154688961
>trouble writing around him only being able to say his name. There is possibly a timeline where Timmy stayed relevant and was beating Butters in popularity polls as crazy as that sounds today.
Trey and Matt are such lazy faggots. Any character who can't be used to voice opinions on LE CURRENT THING is shoved away to them. Look at Kenny
>>
>>154688896
There's also the fact he's a sucker for Raisins Girls in TFBW. But you're right, it's minimal.
For Butters, we have last season with him and Red
>>
>>154685387
I like how in Scott's first episode, the school musical one Stan of all people was just such a massive jerk to him for no reason lol. "Look who you guys are hanging out with now Scott Malkinson for Christ's sake!" and then Scott genuinely confused "what's so bad about hanging out with me?"
>>
>>154689445
Stan (as well as his best friend Kyle) can be a massive jerk sometimes. He often tries to act as if he's the moral center of the show but he himself has been extremely selfish many many times. He cares about his popularity and reputation much more than doing anything good and thinks the world revolves around him. Stan and Kyle are actually really shitty people in general but Cartman makes them look like saints in comparison.
>>
>>154689569
word. and it's funny how stan and kyle recognize these flaws in each other. like in the school bullying episode when kyle asks stan in relation to the bullying music video he made if it's really that important then why doesn't he put it up on the internet for free to reach a wider audience and stan doesn't even answer that question; as well as kyle realizing that butters doesn't wanna be a part of the bullying music video but stan forcing him to do it. and then in the crack baby episode stan pointed out that kyle is beginning to sound just like cartman when he begins to make a thousand excuses as to why exploiting the crack babies is a good thing and not actually wrong just because he wants to be super rich. and then all the other kids stan included tell kyle how sick they are about his self-righteous speeches
>>
>>154689569
>>154689679
This is why Butters is my fav. He's an asshole, but not self-righteous about it
>>
>>154689207
I can't look at Kenny. They don't show him anymore for me to look at.
>>
>>154690950
He's literally a prop, don't blame you
>>
>>154691223
I still can't believe Matt and Trey said this when Kenny was always hilarious even when you could barely understand him because of his muffles hiding the fact he's the most foul of the boys and you mostly had to interpret what he said from the others reacting to him, giving him more charm than if he said perverted things normally. Him telling the others what a dildo is and telling Stan to slip Shelly the tongue when asking for advice for how to get her to stop beating him up always makes me laugh.
>>
>>154691328
Because they slowly became hacks after You're Getting Old and Assburgers
>>
>>154686861
The most prominent is actually Jimmy.
>>
>>154692046
He is?
>>
>>154692642
Yeah. Of the secondary students, Jimmy has the most episodes about him after Wendy, season 19 let him be a main character in a whole story arc, he gets his own sidekick and rival, and he's never disappeared from the show since he first appeared in season 5. The reason Craig leads the gang is because even on his own, he often does not get along with the boys. It was an interesting dynamic they had before they more or less dropped a lot of Craig's uniqueness to glue him to Tweek's side.
>>

>>154687971
I don't get why anyone pretends like Token is interesting other than the fact he appears a lot and is the only black boy. He doesn't do anything. He's probably the most boring character in the show.
>>
>>154695336
The only ones more boring than Tolkien are the girls outside of Wendy. I swear outside of Wendy it's like the girls are a complete and total monolith. Bebe got ONE episode about her being worried about her tits coming in, Nichole got ONE episode where she got together with Tolkien, Red recently got ONE episode where she used Butters for Labubus, Heidi technically got 2 seasons but all of her episodes were basically just Cartman episodes too, oh I guess there was the diabetes girl Sophie who got ONE episode about her becoming friends with Scott Malkinson, then there's Annie who though we see her in class since a lot since the start of the show I think she's only ever speak twice, etc.
>>
>>154696231
Matt and Trey just sort of suck at writing non-White non-male characters but for a show like South Park that's not really a problem and I really wouldn't want forced diversity/forced representation or whatever. Though to make up for it they are actually really good at writing characters with disabilities such as Jimmy and Timmy as well as really good at writing gay characters like Craig and Tweek. Way better than most shows are. For Jimmy and Timmy in specific it's amazing how the other characters don't walk on eggshells around them and just treat them as nice or as mean as they would treat any other kid. Their disabilities are really only ever brought up in rare times such as when Timmy couldn't confess his sins due to only being able to say his name and nothing else, the other kids helping him put a condom on, the other kids promising to pull his pants down for him when the whole class planned to moon Ms. Choksondik, and when PC Principal unknowingly promised to break Jimmy's legs.
>>
jimmy and timmy are cool but i personally did not care for the whole craig x tweek thing. i just think they work better as friends with opposite personalities
>>
>>154696481
Didn't Matt and Trey state somewhere that the whole Tweek X Craig shit was put into the season last minute because they were getting a lot of fan art about yaoi between the South Park characters and they were surprised and thought it was funny and cool and decided to put it in?
If it wasn't for that Tweek X Craig would probably never officially be a thing in a million years.
>>
>>154696481
>>154696528
I feel like it dragged down Craig's character to just "Tweek's boyfriend".
>>
>>154696536
and vice versa
>>
>>154696647
I'm going to piss off somebody saying this, but it was worse for Craig because Tweek himself didn't have nearly as much of a character if much of one to begin with.
>>
>>154696672
Oh that reminds me back when Tweek took Kenny's place (or at that point Butters's place) back in like season 6 didn't Cartman say something like "Tweek you've only been with us for (insert amount of time I think it was 2 weeks or something) and honestly? It's not going well. People don't really like you. They actually find you kind of annoying. So you get one more chance to make up for it?" Don't know if that accurately reflected people's views on Tweek at the time.
>>
>>154696710
I wouldn't know cuz I was just barely born when that season came out but I wouldn't be surprised if it was accurate because almost everything in South Park has some truth to it even if it's greatly exaggerated for comedic effect. Similar to how people were sick of Kyle's speeches and they mentioned that in the show and they knew how much people were sick of Tegridy Randy and they also mentioned that in the show. Not to mention how Terrance and Phillip in specific are a parody of the show itself when people called South Park nothing but "cheap animation, toilet humor, and excessive swearing" and so they doubled down on that by creating Terrance and Phillip to show how that would actually look like on the most literal level possible.
>>
>>154696672
tweek isn't even in the same class as the main boys and hasn't been for a very long time. most likely because compared to craig and the other regularly occuring side character boys such as jimmy, tolkien, clyde, timmy, etc. he was not really meant to be as permanent or major per se. plus his whole gimmick of always shaking and screaming i imagine is frustrating to maintain regularly
>>
>>154696817
"Craig and those guys" didn't even originally include Tweek. It was the four guys in the Fun Times With Weapons episode: Craig, Jimmy, Tolkien, and Clyde. Tweek was only added on later because of his relationship with Craig.

Pip: Easy. Only Damien or Estella would work really as those are the only two characters he has strong associations with.

Found a rare Pip. Dogpoo's there too. I don't know why, but a lot of early advertisers liked Dogpoo at least way more than Clyde.
>>
>>154700048
In the very early seasons none of the kids besides the main 4, Wendy, and Pip even had names. A lot of the most beloved side kids now just started off as completely random background characters, Butters included. And then there's ones like Timmy and Jimmy who were supposed to be one-offs but the fans liked them so much that Trey and Matt decided to keep them.

i know a lot of people compare clyde to craig and i can see some similarities but i think they do have enough differences to set them apart as unique characters from each other. by this point in time craig has been established as very cynical and sarcastic as well as pretty emotionless and doesn't get bothered by things easily, meanwhile clyde does have some of that too but he's more of a crybaby as well as kind of an idiot and more naive. clyde is also one of the very few characters who acts like an actual kid meanwhile craig acts more like a jaded teenager

Dogpoo is a clear and explicit reference to Pig-Pen from Peanuts and since back then the side characters barely had any personality he was one of the kids that stuck out the most just from his appearance alone.
>>
>>154700454
I loved when back in the episode where they were trying to find a replacement for Kenny and they explicitly referenced how little DogPoo matters by having him say he's been in the show since the beginning but never got to say or do anything and then Cartman saying he's more like a prop than an actual character.
>>
>>154700209
She was supposed to have her own Phone Destroyer Card, but it got scrapped
>>
>>154700316
This is why I like Clyde. Too many of the kids act way too mature. You see this with the girls especially. What happened to kids being "little raging bastards?"
>>
>>154700716
>he's more like a prop than an actual character.
A perfect Kenny replacement!
>>
>>154700920
Shut up, Trey. Kenny pulls more bitches than you.
>>
>>154700920
This but unironically. I believe Trey and Matt have said that they have difficulty using characters like Kenny and Timmy because they don't speak normally so since DogPoo can speak normally he might've ended up as a more important character than Kenny ever dreamed of.
>>
>>154700923
Am I wrong, though? Reminder they killed him in Season 6 specifically because of this.
>>154701091
I said this as a joke, but the fact that this is plausible scares me...
>>
>>154701239
At this point in time Kenny is borderline a background character. Even people such as Tolkien (Streaming Wars parts 1 and 2 as well as some episodes after that) and Clyde (Not Suitable For Children) have been getting more screen time lately.
>>
>>154701483
I think Matt and Trey have discussed not liking Kenny that much through the years. That the reason they planned to perma kill him off in season 5 was because his whole schtick of always dying was getting really annoying and just felt like having to meet a quota they don't really enjoy. They only brought him back because fans started to miss him a lot and they had no idea Kenny was so popular. And since then there have also been many jokes about Kenny not really doing anything. Like "whatever dude at least you finally get to do something" and most recently "Kenny I haven't even heard you say anything in like 4 months."
>>
>>154701483
Don't forget Got A Nut, where he's a 2nd Cartman
>>154701808
>many jokes about Kenny not really doing anything.
That shit pisses me off. Why do they do this so much only to just dp nothing with him anyway?
>>
>>154701879
>That shit pisses me off. Why do they do this so much only to just dp nothing with him anyway?
It seems that Trey and Matt love deliberately pissing off their fans. They did this as early as season 1 to season 2 with Cartman's Mom Is a Dirty Slut where they showed a Terrance and Phillip episode instead of continuing that plot. Then there's Trump Garrison, Tegridy Randy, PC Principal, Trump small penis jokes, the Cartman and Heidi relationship, etc. all which the majority of fans hated and yet they kept dragging them out just for the sake of it.
>>
>>154701928
>Cartman's mom
They revealed it the following episode, so no biggie
>Trump Garrison
Was more tolerable than what people said. Plus, he had to Deus Ex Machina his way back into a job.
>Tegridy
That shit was deliberately out of spite and it sucked
>PC Principal
He was well liked, but not after his Christian phase recently
>Heiman
They did end it after the season, though.
>Saddam Trump
Unfortunately likely to continue
>>
>>154701879
boy i love when clyde starts acting like cartman. as an adult he was like a 2nd cartman too
>>
>>154701808
Supposedly Comedy Central execs cut short their grand plan of cycling through different 4th friends because they wanted to sell more Kenny merch.
>Matt originally insisted Kenny was dead for good
>Years later SPS FAQ said they wanted to at least have him dead until season 7, and have other kids rotate as #4 but it was stopped at Tweek
>>
>>154700181
Annie had her name since storyboards, it only got spoken in season 8. Autists like FRUITBOWL were super diehard about calling her "Annie" when other fans called her "Jordan" based only from that scene in Conjoined Fetus Lady.
The storyboards also had Butters as "Puff Puff", Kevin as "Sky", and Dogpoo as "Dirt".

I'm surprised South Park did WoW, I wonder if they got bribed. It's just that WoW does not feel like a good match for South Park considering both the aesthetics and Blizzard's type of humour.

What other video games or just MMOs to narrow it down do you think South Park would have been better off making a video game tribute to?
>>
>>154703103
...Cartman has been raped for jokes a ton, huh
>>
>>154703647
Sexual abuse is something Cartman had to deal with even from his own mom. From an elephant makes love to a pig.
>Yeah, if some girl tried to kick my ass, I'd be like, "hey, why don't you stop dressin' me up like a mailman, annnd making me dance for you while you go and smoke crack in your bedroom and have sex with some guy I don't even know, on my dad's bed!"

And who knows just how bad the rest of that family could be, Trey just doesn't want to show them anymore.
We know Cartman and one of his boy cousins (Elvin? Fred?) touched wieners when they were young, and there's no telling what pervy aunts or uncles he could've had.

Which episode is the Dirt Dogpoo storyboard from? Season 1 commentaries said his name was dogshit.
>>
>>154705402
Breayle Reiss, one of the original SPS runners, cited it was "Dirt" as did Big-Will.
Dirt could've been a censored name if S&P didn't like "Dogshit", then maybe they managed to work it to being "Dogpoo" even if his name wouldn't get mentioned on-screen 'til season 6. Maybe CC was looking at merchandising possibilities or Dirt was a temporary cover-ass move.

Kenny x Henrietta sounds nice just simply because darkness plus darkness...the guy who is always dying and is sick and tied of it and the girl who is into death and darkness related things. If you wanted to go the gay route then Kenny x Pete or Kenny x Michael could also work. Just please no fucking Kenny x Firkle lmfao. Despite both being minors that'd be a fucked up age range. As a kid 1 year is equal to like 5 adult years or more in terms of development so going from age 5 to age 10 is a 25 year difference.

not sure what your reason is but i find him annoying for a very specific reason because he reminds me of this kid back from when i was in 8th grade and there was this tiny somewhat chubby ugly kid from the 6th grade who was obsessed with me just because we shared the same first name who looked and talked somewhat like dougie but he had much darker skin as well as black/dark brown hair instead of red hair. nobody really liked this kid not even the other 6th graders. he would do a bunch of really stupid shit trying way too hard to be funny such as mocking an asian kid by pulling back his eyes and saying his name "look at me i'm takashi look at me i'm takashi with my slanted asian eyes" as well as making jokes about raping female characters in media (he did watch a lot of anime) and joking about putting cameras underground to look up girl's skirts but overall i still felt kinda bad for telling him off because it was obvious he was this socially awkward lonely kid who didn't really have any friends and was desperate to fit in and be funny but he still pissed me off a lot regardless. i was just happy i got to ditch him as soon as i entered high school

Or on the rare occasion his mumbling is super coherent and he just lets Cartman have a good ol' "Fuck you" or something. And then whenever he has a "cameo" outside of his parka, that's always fun, like when he posed as Michael Jackson's kid, or when he was dressed as Iron Man for Halloween.
>>

Scott Malkinson was 100% based on a guy the creators know in real life. He's just too specific to be 100% fictional.
>>
>>154708704
I mean that's not really unique to Scott. It also applies to Butters, Kenny, Mr. Mackey, Liane Cartman, as well as Stan's and Kyle's parents which were based on Trey's and Matt's parents respectively right down to the same names. And then obviously Stan and Kyle are based on Matt and Trey themselves. I don't know if Cartman is based on anyone since he's just too extreme and too much of a caricature to be based on anyone real. But yeah, those are the examples I can think of.
>>
>>154708850
Mr. Garrison is based off a teacher called Mr. Harrison.
>>
>>154708850
Cartman's some fat kid they knew in school
>>
>>154708999
Wait fucking MR. GARRISON of all characters was based on a real person?!?! That's actually horrifying.
>>154709308
This makes sense. In the first few seasons Cartman was just sort of a rude, spoiled fat kid rather than a genius bigoted evil psychopath. It's like pre-Scott Tenorman Must Die Cartman and post-Scott Tenorman Must Die Cartman are two completely different people.
>>
>>154709542
They are. Likewise, Cartman is pretty different from Season 23 onwards
>>
>>154709542
in the early seasons wendy was actually way worse than cartman because she killed someone in the 11th episode of the FIRST season. and now wendy is more or less a female kyle but one who never gets involved with cartman unless he's specifically messing with her. and in that way i guess you could say tolkien is a black kyle but who like wendy prefers to never get involved with cartman and his temper is less severe
>>
>>154709768
I kinda wish they kept Wendy like that. I like the idea of the normal main character having a crazy family AND a crazy girlfriend as well. Plus like you said a second Kyle but female is kinda redundant. She doesn't necessarily have to be modern Cartman level crazy but just someone who is willing to play dirty and does whatever it takes to get what she wants and is not above murder if she feels it's necessary.
>>
>>154709768
Wendy being a female Kyle I agree but Tolkien being a Black Kyle is a bit of a stretch. Tolkien is a more passive character who is not bothered by much unless Cartman REALLY get's up in his personal business. If anything I'd say Tolkien is closer to being a Black Stan. Would also explain why they got along so well in the Streaming Wars.

Speaking of very minor characters this Hispanic kid called David Rodriguez during season 19 almost became a regular character because after his debut episode he continued to regularly hang out with the boys as part of their extended friend group and even played ninjas with them but then immediately in season 20 he was demoted to just a background character lol. Somewhat of a shame as I feel he could've added to the show but they have a lot of trouble utilizing characters they already have so I understand not wanting to bring a new one into the picture.

>>154686124
Sorry for the autism. Had a lot to say. Tl;dr: I like Frenchie a lot and don't think of him as one-note or was too similar to Butters to coexist. They have different morals, with Butters being more willing to fall for peer pressure and do wrong to fit in as an innocent tool, which helped him, while Pip thinks being friendly and passive while sticking to his morals will make people eventually like him, which didn't help him.
I never saw Pip as one-note. He always stood out as charmingly polite and well-spoken in a town where everyone used to be crude, cruel, or just crazy. He's one of the most moral characters to his own downfall, friendly to everyone even when they're literally spitting on him and almost completely passive to abuse, all made sadder by the lack of a father figure in his life to teach him to fight back and the adult figures in his life like Mr. Mackey telling him that being overly nice and not standing up for himself will eventually stop the bullying and get him friends. What makes Pip stand out even more is his lack of vengeful tendencies. Even Butters, Kyle, and Wendy can be pretty vengeful. Kyle and Wendy especially towards Cartman, who they still get mad at for success that barely affects or harms them or anyone. Butters made up a whole persona for revenge and has been happy when Cartman is suffering. While Cartman has earned this treatment, vengeance isn't really considered a good virtue. Cartman is another reason Pip gets abused. Pip said Cartman was the school punching bag before he showed up and started bullying him to climb the social ladder. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can only recall two times Pip retaliated: against Kyle when calling him French by hitting him with a dodgeball and the rescue of Estella, where he fought robot monkeys and inadvertently killed Havisham.

>>154686124
>>154710984
The former is real sad because that episode shows that Pip is one of the physically strongest kids in school and yet still doesn't stand up for himself. Revenge is a common theme in the show in general, and Pip tries not to go for it. The most popular episode is about Cartman getting revenge. Mr. Mackey telling Pip to be passive has become ironic, as the reason PC Principal is around is because Mr. Mackey wanted revenge on Principal Victoria for not listening to him. This is not to say Pip has no moral failings, just far less than most. Some of them are hoping Damien getting called fartboy means he won't be anymore, being a bystander to Mark's bullying, or becoming a violent caveman over Bebe's boobs like the other boys. Pip still tried to be Damien's friend instead of pulling a Cartman, which makes me think Pip said that in the spur of the moment instead of out of malice. Mark's treatment is a good example of differences between Pip and Butters as characters and why I think Matt and Trey were wrong in thinking they were too similar and couldn't coexist, though it was strange they thought this when they already made them friends, which I thought was fun and could have continued to be fun. Pip was mostly a bystander spending time with Stan while Butters was directly hostile to Mark and was one of the kids that bullied him most. I think of Pip as the most friendly and polite kid, abused for his inability to stand up for himself and sticks to his morals instead of adapting to his environment like the awkward brit shoved into a redneck mountain town he doesn't belong in like he is.I think of Butters as once the most innocent and normal kid, wanting to play yet having his naivety used as a tool by people like Cartman, corrupted by his environment, and a victim of peer pressure. I know Pip is based on a book Matt and Trey hated reading, but that gives him more charm to me as a parody character.Again, sorry for the massive two part post.

Pip is a great example of how the school system can actively fail bullying victims.
>>154711119
Thanks. I do like Scott a bit too, I just don't have as much to say about him as I'm not as big of a fan of him as I am for Pip. >>
>>154710874
I'm glad David was benched because while he was great in You're Not Yelping I just can't see him working out long term. He was just sort of a Hispanic Tolkien as in a non-White kid who Cartman constantly makes fun of due to his race and enforces stereotypes upon but somewhat more aggressive than Tolkien and ready to fight Cartman kind of like Kyle or Wendy. So just sort of a combination of characters we already have. And while he did hang around the boys for a bit during season 19 he never really said or did anything while hanging out with them. Even when playing ninjas all he really did was get shot by Officer Barbrady.

Not that it's a bad thing but you're clearly putting WAY more thought into Pip than Trey and Matt ever intended lol. I don't remember exactly where I heard this from but I heard that the reason he was included in the show was because they hated Charles Dickens because they were sick of constantly having to analyze his novels during English class back in high school and/or college and so they brought his most popular character from his most popular novel into South Park to shit on him as some sort of revenge. And notice that there were times the other boys did feel bad for Butters or Scott but never Pip because Pip was a caricature made to be abused and hated.

>>154711632
Well I did say the posts were going to be autistic. I get Matt and Trey probably did not consider everything I said, but I still wish they realized Pip could still be utilized and I still stick by him being more than just proto Butters. The fact they kept using him for years I think says a little that they wanted him to be a proper member of the cast. Also, I mentioned them hating the book they based him on. A lot of South Park character origins were not exactly nice. Mephesto was based on one of the biggest box office bombs of all time and that kid they based Kenny off of was actually bullied by Trey. The show since the start was Matt and Trey making fun of things even if it wasn't always deep social commentary.

American Dad was basically the only good show out of the three Seth MacFarlane shows. Family Guy hasn't been good in a long LONG time and even at it's peak wasn't that great and The Cleveland Show was literally just Family Guy but Black. In Family Guy Cleveland was sort of the straight man who talked slow in a monotone voice but then in The Cleveland Show they just straight up turned him into Peter right down to the farting and treating his wife as if she's ugly.
>>
>>154713818
sort of random but i thought it was funny in reference to family guy and the cleveland show that when the cleveland show ended and cleveland and his new family moved back to family guy his entire family basically just became background characters LOL. like even when they're front and center in a scene they're literally just standing there not saying anything...and it's out of character for them too because back in the cleveland show they were all pretty outgoing, loud, and talkative
>>
>>154714104
True. Honestly at this point they might as well kill off Cleveland's entire family. Kinda weird to have these characters that appear rather frequently around their neighborhood and yet just sort of stand there doing nothing. It's low-key kinda creepy actually.

A Family Gut spin-off starring Cleveland is actually not a horrible idea on paper. They needed someone more minor who's lack of presence wouldn't ruin the show. And Cleveland having a rather neutral personality gives you somewhere to go. However they should've kept him the straight man who reacts to things. Have his new family and his new friends be crazy but keep him normal. And then obviously The Cleveland Show could've benefited from actual Black writers. It was blatantly obvious it was a bunch of White people writing Black characters. With actual Black writers it could've given off similar vibes to The Boondocks but obviously not so similar that it's just a complete rip-off.

It really does seem that out of the main boys Kyle is the one that gets the short end of the stick the most, not counting Butters of course. It's almost like Trey and Matt like to punish him. Cartman is like 50% success/50% failure because he does so much absurd shit that some of them are bound to fail and others bound to work. Kenny doesn't have an easy life but he seems to make the most of it most of the time. And then Stan is just sort of passive going with the flow. And then there's just Kyle and Butters. And this is not counting the side characters but the side characters seem to have normal lives for the most part.

honestly i'd much rather have david than pc principal. the reason i say that is both were introduced in the exact same season (19) and david was low-key somewhat teased to become a regular but just didn't make the cut like pc principal did. principal victoria wasn't amazing or anything but she was definitely a lot more timeless than pc principal. pc principal represents a very specific trend that by now hasn't aged the best. plus it was nice to have principal victoria as the straight (wo)man between the other crazier staff members at the school such as mr. garrison or mr. mackey. and above all pc principal is just too loud and in your face and lacks any subtlety. david would've just simply been one of the side character boys who regularly hangs out with the main cast and not nearly as intrusive as pc principal
>>

They've moved on to punishing Cartman more. He's never suceeded in anything worthwhile after sending Kyle to ICE. Stan got his house back last season, so I would say he'd alright. We don't know about Kenny, but he's still poor, so...

It's a famous trope called the Lesser Star or the Garfunkel where the second person in a famous duo is overlooked, often to the point of writers just choosing to humiliate them like Luigi, Tails, and Vegeta because it's considered funny to mock someone for being number 2. You're so close to first, yet not, so you get picked on more than third or fourth place, getting called things like first loser or a jobber. While Cartman is the merch seller of the franchise and Randy has taken over the show in recent years, it's clear Stan was originally intended to the be the focal protagonist of the boys from being based on Trey and being the most normal of the group, thus Kyle is Stan's Garfunkel. It was to the point early on that Kyle was seen as too similar to Stan and they thought of permanently killing him off instead of Kenny. I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone call Kyle "Green Stan". There's also the fact they made Kyle want to be morally righteous, calling others out all the time and in a post-flanderized Lisa world, it's hard not to see someone like that punchable even when they're right.
>>
>>154716169
Thus Kyle is Stan's Garfunkel as his best friend and being based on Matt I should have said.

>PC Principal was supposed to be a one-off that died at the end of his debut
>he has now been on the show longer than Chef
>they even changed his character to not have to write him off
He's actually unstoppable.

Oh, well he's not dunked on as much as them, though
>>
>>154716768

>Religion killed Chef

Ironic.
>>
>>154716768
Interesting how there were a lot of characters meant to be one-offs but stayed. Timmy and Jimmy were some. Not sure about how many others besides those two and PC Principal but there's probably more. I think Tweek as well? Usually when they randomly introduced a new kid they were supposed to be one-offs but they stuck around if they were popular enough.
>>
>>154717085
with jimmy that's really strange because jimmy came off as VERY unlikable in his first appearance. he was literally just a bully towards timmy throughout the whole episode who is usually portrayed as rather innocent and harmless. seeing timmy win in the end was so satisfying. after that though he more or less became a different character being really nice unless he's pushed to his limit in some way as well as an amazing best friend towards timmy who sort of acts like a big brother to him

CHEERIO! Hello! My name is Pip! I'd like to see if you wouldn't mind NOT smashing our little town to bits?

Pip died loving a town that didn't deserve his love man.
>>
>>154717402
For a character that not even the creators themselves liked he was a surprisingly tragic and sad figure in the town of South Park. Even the adults and even the more reasonable ones like Chef and Mr. Mackey hated him for no reason. I know that's supposed to be the joke, a nice gentle kid who everyone else hates for zero reason and to an extent it is funny but it's also sad. Butters and Scott at least got to make up for it in other ways such as Butters' Professor Chaos persona as well as him becoming more of a dick in recent seasons and Scott was pretty awesome as Captain Diabetes in Fractured But Whole as well as earning respect from some of the other characters in that way but Pip just never got anything like that. The closest thing he got was the dodgeball episode and even then by the end of that very same episode they immediately just went back to the status quo of shitting on him and ignoring his victory in dodgeball completely, even Chef.
>>
>>154717402
>>154717617
it really is a shame but that's really just how it is. if the creators themselves don't like a character then it's game over for that character. and even if fans begged for pip to come back trey and matt are not the type of creators to listen to fans. see how long tegridy randy lasted and how fans complaining didn't do anything
>>
All this talk of Pip and how Pip was basically a prototype Butters it's kind of hilarious that when they were looking for a new friend to replace Kenny/Butters Pip was one of the possible friends and actually made it pretty far into the competition.
Just the idea of the prototype Butters potentially replacing Butters is just hilarious. Would've been extra funny if he actually won over Tweek.
>>
>>154717746
Matt and Trey have started getting obsessed with nostalgia recently despite spending a season making fun of nostalgia pandering and bringing back Pip is one of the biggest surprises left they could pull. It's not even like they would have to fully bring him back. South Park has not visited Hell since before he died. But I'm not the best person to listen to on this since I'm pretty biased because I'm someone who has bought his fun4all plush despite its crazy prices and maintained cleaning it.
>>
>>154717935
>Damien is busy torturing Pip in Hell as his new playtoy
>or he would be if Tratt remembered he existed beyond school assembly scenes
>>
>>154717897
I like to imagine that if Pip actually won then the three main boys would hang out with Pip for an entire episode where all they do is insult him and complain about him and by the end of the episode Cartman just loudly yells "PIP GET THE FUDGE OUT" and then they bring in the second place winner Tweek as the real replacement.
>>
>>154717897
Had Comedy Central not pressured them to cut the "rotating 4th friend" gag short, we could very well have had Pip or another boy come in after Tweek's turn. Instead Tweek was written out of the group off screen and we had possessed Cartman (who one could just write off as schizo until the twist was true).
>>
>>154717999
Pip annoys them by being too nice and wanting to do nice, safe, boring things when they're not just insulting him just for the hell of it until they're bored of the whole gag and want someone more interesting.
>>
>>154717989
With how hard they took the yaoi pill, a Pip return would be confirming he's Damien's boytoy, not playtoy.
>>
>>154718010
Rotating 4th friend sounds fucking sick. As much as I love Kenny (my 2nd favorite character after Cartman actually) this sounds like it would've been so awesome.
>>
>>154718412
They've somewhat done lighter versions of this through the years. Like an episode where the main 4 plus perhaps Butters would hang out with some other kid such as Craig, Jimmy, Tolkien, Clyde, etc. Tolkien most recently with the Streaming Wars and several episodes after that actually. Clyde with Not Suitable For Children. Craig during Pandemic parts 1 and 2 where all he really did was complain lol. And as for Jimmy I know there was the Funnybot one and I can't recall many more specifics but I feel I've seen Jimmy hanging out with them a whole bunch of times too.
>>
>>154718010
>Instead Tweek was written out of the group off screen
you know this actually really pissed me off. tweek just suddenly stopped hanging out with them no explanation. it just seemed so random and unsatisfying to me. like they could've at least had a goodbye scene or something
>>
>>154718581
I mean for Tweek in specific it makes sense because the crazy adventures that the main characters go on were just too much for him and his anxiety. He himself said so when doing shit like breaking into George Lucas' house that that shit was just too much for him. And Craig himself much later but in different words and a different tone that the average kid their age just falls off their bike or fails a math test meanwhile because of some stupid plan that backfired they suddenly end up in a foreign country or in outer space or something and that's why no one else at school but Butters really likes hanging out with them. All of this is already strongly implied off screen so no real need for a goodbye scene or whatever.
>>
u>>154718689
now that you mention tweek and craig ARE similar in how they pointed out how crazy the main characters are. so even beyond the tweek vs craig episode some signs were there. makes sense they'd end up as a couple. also made more sense to do it with existing characters rather than just shoehorning two new random gay kids just for the sake of representation. and also funny how they are the healthiest official couple in south park besides perhaps tolkien x nichole. stan x wendy started off cute but over time it gradually became a mess and then cartman x heidi was just simply YIKES with a capital Y. lol
>>
>>154718753
>stan x wendy started off cute but over time it gradually became a mess
They literally just don't give a shit about each other anymore. At this point they could probably go without ever seeing each other again for the rest of their lives and still be happy. Stan has more chemistry with Kyle than with Wendy at this point really...
>>
>>154718295
That could work
>>
>>154718412
>>154718520
They should do this more often, then.
>>
>>154717935
They could pretend he never died. Same thing happened to Satan.
>>154718689
Butters has slowly been growing more of a backbone and tolerates stuff less. The only thing keeping him with them is the status quo.
>>154718753
>>154718825
Stan and Kyle are losing chemistry, too. Stan did fuckall to help Kyle in Conflict of Interest and Sora Not Sorry. Likewise, Kyle was too busy moralfagging to help Stan in Woman In The Hat.

I thought Cartman had numerous sources.
>his name is based off one of their friends named Karpman
>his personality was based on Archie Bunker
>Matt and Trey sometimes self-insert as Cartman like in the rainforest episode because of him being unfiltered
>>
>>154719727
In Satan's case to be fair he's fucking Satan and not human and can't technically "die" per se. Same applies to Jesus. If I remember correctly in an episode Kyle had to kill Jesus so they could get out of the cage or whatever and he died and then spawned out of the cage to help Kyle get out.
But then again South Park is not a show that takes itself super seriously so it's not impossible. It would be pretty funny if they brought him back just like how they did Kenny at the end of season 6 where Kenny just casually appeared again as if nothing happened. As in Pip just randomly appears in the classroom or in the hallways again and everyone starts ripping on him as normal as if he never died.
I believe they did it with Jason White who got run over by a car? They I believe the reasoning could be that South Park often reuses background assets or whatever and it's an oversight but they just don't care enough to remove Jason from the background.
>>
>>154720848
Well, that's true, I guess
>>
>>154720898
Pip comes back because the UK made it so you need digital ID to enter the afterlife.
>>
>>154720898
But Satan was killed by Manbearpig, another immortal being. Therefore, his death should've been permanent. Also, they outright said in the season 22 commentary Satan's dead for good.
Jason's revival is due to them still using his assets
>>
>>154719998
Yeah probably. Wasn't there a whole Stick Of Truth quest where some mean older girls stole her doll and you had to get it back for her? And I remember her having a sort of nasal innocent dumb sounding voice. I remember her asking what a queef is in that voice. I also remember her saying "you don't know?" when Wendy didn't know who Paris Hilton was in that voice. Her voice is sort of like a female version of Craig's or Clyde's voice who also have nasal voices.
>>
>>154721076
She's so cute, I like her.
I wish she was secretly kinda fucked up like Butters, too
>>
>>154721192
Yes she is cute! And that sounds cool but then again I wouldn't want her to just be a total repeat of Butters. If they were to make her secretly fucked up it'd have to be in a more unique way.
>>
>>154721228
Well, she was one of the girls in Butters' Kissing Company and was really into the Labubu Ritual, so maybe we can work off that
>>
>>154721296
True. For the kissing company thing I thought it was funny they used her and not some random nameless background girl in her place. Could hint that perhaps she shares some pervy traits with Kenny or she was molested and now acts sexual or is just really into romance I have no idea because I don't know the first thing about good writing lol. And then for the Labubu ritual I guess could represent her bitchy side or her cult-like side or whatever. Again I'm a horrible writer. I once tried to write my own story and it was so bad and cringey that I couldn't even write 1 full page of my own story.
>>
>>154721741
I guess she can act real crazy/depraved due to being unpopular and wanting to make friends. That's all I have, desu

Am I the only one who gets hungry seeing Timmy and Jimmy? I am? Why you ask? Because Timmy's head is shaped like a delicious strawberry and Jimmy's head is shaped like a delicious peach. Their shirt colors also add to this, Timmy's shirt red like a strawberry and Jimmy's shirt yellow like a peach.

i have always wondered why the kids in south park are so obsessed with chocolate milk. like in that episode where jimbo offers the kids beer and stans says he prefers chocolate milk. and then when butters uses the toilet backwards and says you have the shelf for your comic book and your chocolate milk. and when butters starts singing the bennigan's song and the man driving the truck kicks him out of the truck and he asks the man if he could stop for a chocolate milk. and then cartman drinking kenny's ashes thinking it was chocolate milk. no idea why these kids all love chocolate milk so much

>>
>>154722240
True and I can see that with Butters being obsessed with Bennigan's. He mentioned Bennigan's several times. Obviously in his very own episode as well as when Cartman locked him in the bomb shelter and he was trying to rebuild society after he got out he said he would try to make a Bennigan's or a P.F. Chang's or something else.

This. It takes away the show's identity and doesn't fit. It looks like this to me, but at least this was done for a joke in one episode. South Park wants you to take this as a serious art direction improvement.

Same. I also hate the detailed new characters. You can see the contrast between characters that have been there since season 1 versus characters introduced recently. Like for example say PC Principal vs Randy Marsh. Randy looks a lot more plain just being a round head with flat colored matte black hair meanwhile PC Principal's face is A LOT more detailed with little wrinkles and shit as well as a much more realistic head shape and a fade from shaving his moustache area and really shiny hair that almost looks like plastic.
