After over a week of non stop sounding we are unsounded once more

Magistratus looks like an ayy lmao, the crazy ulestrian hobo was onto something

I wonder how much the coppers weigh?
Also Milka is really screwed if Will is already spotting how she doesn't act like the man he knows does.

Only a few more hours until the second Kickstarter. I hope the stretch goals and extras are better this time around.
>>
>>154705429
Why are they called coppers? They're fucking electric crimson
>>
Couple of questions.
Just reread Unsounded and I was wondering a bunch of stuff
>Why RBB keep Jivi around instead of cutting him up like the rest of the captives
>Who was that weird psycho in the Khert, I swear it feels like he was never explained
>>
>>154705474
Still more human looking than his breeding projects.
>>154705491
Her glamour is definitely breaking soon. Wonder what's going to happen to her when the rest of the crowd sees a ssoud girl there. And in front of a VITS council member no less.
>>
>>154705474
Fucker looks more like a vampire than the guy named Vampire
>>
>>154705626
They kept Jivi around to keep the places they were camping tidy and do other menial labor, and probably to be frank because Starfish enjoyed making him suffer for being too rebellious and free spirited. Later they kept him around because Starfish needed Quigley and his construct, and Quigley made that a condition of his employment. Since he had the power to enforce it, Jivi stayed. Murkoph, the khert psycho, is a mystery that will be addressed in this book. The seeds of it were planted last book.
>>
holy fuck this looks dumb as fuck.

>the plat boys rearranging themselves into Magistratus' chair
Reminds me of the thicc lady throne in The Thief and the Cobbler

Those inbred freaks are stronger than the look though, which makes sense. Also:
>forgot his arms
What happened to your training, "Lilleord"? That's first level soldiering! Thackeray needs to make him run some laps.
>>
>>154705429
Every once in a while one of those zombie plats has to die from being sat on too long.
Wonder if they just drag the corpse away, or fully weekend at bernies it to avoid too much embarassment
>>
>>154705669
>Murkoph, the khert psycho, is a mystery that will be addressed in this book
Ah ok I was worried I was speed reading like I did the first time and missed some shit
>>
>>154705703
Well the exchange with Quigley and Starfish about Jivi, plus Jivi being shown cleaning up, are both pretty explicit so you might have been a bit. As far as Murkoph goes there is enough in the story and extra material to at least theorize, but we don't have any answers yet and I'm not sure we have enough meaningful information yet for our theories to amount to much.
>>
>>154705702
If they were selectively bred for endurance and properly trained on appropriate postures to take, I would think it should be okay. Not comfortable, but okay. I also get the impression that Valentin is quite possessive of them and might not want them to expire so easily as that.

Will seeing through the glamour isn't going to break it for anyone else unless he does something stupid like saying "MIKAILA???" and then everybody starts to doubt it

But I'm sure our boy could never fuck up in this way. Cool under pressure, quick wit, and not even a little bit traumatized that's our Will
>>
>>154705429
I'm amused that this is how we find out what the rectangles the plats are wearing are for. Having your own personal living chair so you don't have to directly sit on the yucky benches of the lower classes is precisely the sort of thing a rich person would have.

Honestly, if the Lions of Mercy had better helmets they'd mog these geffie edgelords. That one ald captain attacking the queen's bunker had the right idea.

>And we’re back! To refresh: After their rivals the Gefendur threatened to build a shrine to their gods right across from their own most important temple, the local Ssaelit challenged them to a duel! William volunteered to fight and was fortuitously joined by one of the Order’s best spellcasters, whom everyone had thought too injured to participate. Let’s see how it goes!

>I really like this page. I like seeing the function of Valentin's ambulatory bouquets, I like how he has to cross his arms over his knees because they are just too long to do anything else with. I like "What the crowd provides" (ominous) and I like Will being a spaz who just needs to get off Lilleord's nuts.

>For the duel I experimented with a dry brush for some panels, like the last one here, and it reminds me of in old anime how it would sometimes switch to pans across charcoal-rendered static illustrations. There were shots in the original Berserk series like that :3 Know the ones I mean?

>Kickstarter starts at some point tomorrow! You know I'll update again when it's live :)

Everything's coming up nicely here. The two casters in the duel are unarmed. Mikaila's going to stunt on a plant. Will's gonna go mano-a-mano vs. a fellow spear user and show off his skill. Rosseau's gonna disappoint his stepdaddy and get a cigarette put out on his dick by his wife. Everyone's happy.
>>
>>154705429
Did Ashley forget the symbol on the Ssaelit shield in the last panel, did she not want to draw it blurring or is Mikaila casting on it? It kind of has a mirror sheen look, if she blinds Sackheim off it that would be a fun callback to Duane's assassination.

Gotta check in with Iron Circus, still haven't gotten my first volumes, despite doing their address check in ASAP.
>>
>>154707662
I'm in the same boat, and from checking comments it looks like a lot of non-US people are. They're shipping only a portion of the overall ordered books per week. I've got some criticism of them here, I get they're on a timeline for any crowdfunding but I think waiting until #1 was fully completed before launching #2 is pretty commonsense.

If you're US I would definitely get in touch. If you're not and you do contact them, post here what you get back please.
>>
>>154707683
I'm US, but that special part of the US that gets shafted on shipments because of the whole "non-contiguous" thing.
>>
>>154707704
That's crazy you're living at the CIA's reptillian moon embassy man, IDK if you should be posting that here.
>>
>>154707704
I'm in Aus and I only got notification that my books 1 and 2 had shipped last week. And by ship I assume actual ship, not aerio aribo. I guess they did all their "other overseas" after mainland US and euroland.
>>
>>154707762
Nah, I'm euro and haven't even had shipping notification yet.
>>
>>154707762
I’m a leaf and mine hasn’t shipped yet.
>>
>>154707762
I got charged for shipping a month ago and still haven't received my copies, or even any notification that they've actually shipped at all, despite being in the US. It's ridiculous that the second campaign is starting this soon when so many people are in the same boat.
>>
>>154707827
I mean they have posted updates saying they're sending them out batch by batch and iirc shipping was originally delayed when costs spiked because of Iran. But I overall agree. If you had to delay shipping 2-3 months, you should delay the second KS launch by the same amount.
>>
>>154707279

Kickstarter is up now.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ironspike/unsounded-book-3-and-4/
Cloth map available as an extra but otherwise most of the extras are either the previous Unsounded books or the same as before.
>>
>>154709958
>>154709975
Yes, slightly surprised no commission slots or early birds. But despite not having my 1 and 2 yet I've backed for 3 and 4 and the map. A mock-up picture of the map would probably be a good idea!
>>
>>154709000
>>154708555
My Interpretation was that she would have cast slower to keep up the grift. Otherwise people assume Lilleord is some rap god spitting out Tainish at the speed of light.
>>
>>154707683
Agreed. If I hadn't already gotten my books I think I would be more hesitant to back this, though the high trust in Ashley would probably carry me through. It's also expensive though, for international readers especially. Giving a little time to forget that cost and a physical reminder to make it feel worth it is important. I guess they want to really make a push to get it all in stores, but I do think slowing down would benefit the Kickstarters.
>>
>>154705429
>No casting directly on your opponent
>Stabbing them with a big spear? Go right ahead
>>
>>154710052
I believe last time the commission slots opened later too. They'll come. But the lack of early bird is disappointing, I agree. I just want better add ons. The map is the only relevant one which is better than nothing, but still.
>A mock-up picture of the map would probably be a good idea!
Agreed. It might not exist yet though as more than her sketch, which would not help sell people on it. They'll probably add one soon, but she's been busy editing the comic for print and working on the current pages.
>>
>>154710089
I think it's just the actual timing of the shipping was later than they originally planned for because of external events. But that's pretty much exact my position - if I didn't have total faith in the author and if this wasn't literally my favourite current fantasy work, I would think be thinking twice about backing without having the first 2 books. But I have to support our Cope :)
>>
>>154710105
You can't cast directly on your opponent in an official pymary duel either. I think it's mostly a way of encouraging art and skill. If you can just core leech someone or melt their flesh, it's not much of a show.

It's not done to protect people's lives or safety. People frequently die in pymary duels even with this restriction. Even the crowd can get hurt.
>>
>>154710143
Yeah, I get you. They should have been more willing to shift their production schedule to match any delays with fulfillment of the first Kickstarter. And honestly, even though it takes time to run and print a Kickstarter, there might be people who are still getting their first books when it comes time to get the third and fourth. That's a bad look, and I think they're overextending themselves. Iron Circus is a fairly small publisher. I think they mean well but they need to slow down.
>>
>>154710189
They are a small publisher but they're a very industrious one. They're publishing a ton of stuff, Unsounded is just one of those things and I imagine Ash doesn't have an overriding say if they want something to go live. They probably have a schedule planned out for the entire year.
>>
>>154710242
Yeah I'm aware they're publishing many other books concurrently. But if they're having trouble with shipping fulfillment and publishing more, including sequels to things that aren't yet fully shipped and entirely separate stories, that's part of overextending themselves.
>>
That's hit the threshhold anyway so they can say funded in 40 minutes or whatever
>>
>>154710280
Yeah, that's fair. I have no idea if hiring some extra hands to pack out the shipment in shorter time was an option for them, what their bottom line is or anything. As a KS-using business, as long as you aren't taking funds from one project to fulfil previous ones I think you can stand a few hiccups. See CMON for what happens if you are doing that. But as sole fans of Unsounded, obv we don't give a fuck about the other stuff and just want these books in our hands as smoothly as possible. And from that PoV they probably should have just done this next month.
>>

>>
>>154710052
>and the map
The what now? I don't see that listed.
>>
>>154710467
The cloth map that we voted on in Tumblr and which is included as an add-on in the current campaign.
>>
>>154710476
I don't see it listed under any of the tiers, but I'd be very interested in that
>>
>>154710242
I've checked a few of the kickstarters but Unsounded might be one of the biggest partners they have. I've seen a few completely projects that haven't reached amounts we hit in a week. Some how despite being talked about in like 3 places, quite a few people read sette's odyssey. Or at least a lot more willing to pay for it.
>>
>>154710325
Yeah. There's more than one way to overextend- expanding too quickly in any direction can be a problem. Taking on new employees, publishing too quickly, sequels too early. Hopefully whatever they do is a reasonable pace and they're able to keep up. Ultimately as long as ICC doesn't do anything that damage Ashley's or Unsounded's reputation and we get all our books I don't mind too much. And I doubt they're likely to do that. But as you say, one more month out would've been better.
>>
>>154710476
>and which is included as an add-on in the current campaign.
Can you please explain this more clearly? I don't see any map add on in the campaign.
>>
>>154710484
It's an add-on after you back.

>>154710490
I've been reading and enjoying this for so long that I'd probably pay double or more just to have these books. I think there's a pretty hardcore fanbase for Unsounded spread out across a few internet places. Ashley has I guess cultivated that by being so engaged with readers for so long.
>>
Signed on disliking how quickly the second Kickstarter came about, but confirmed that there was no other choice. The schedule's set 18 months ahead, and entwined with major booksellers, the printer overseas, the prepress people who build the book files, and the other books that the publisher publishes. There was nothing I could do :(

But other than the last leg of shipping, everything is on schedule. The first two books are in the States from overseas, and my part of the next books has been completed and sent to prepress. I get the cost concern (fuck do I get it) but this publisher is good for fulfilment. If you buy books, you're gonna get the books.

Thanks to anyone supporting this shit! :)

You have to select a tier, and then you can add it on top of the tier. It's a really clunky system and they should really advertise the existence of the map on the main kickstarter page because it's a hot item for any fan of this series. Unless you go to Ashley's wiki you won't find an actual map of this story anywhere.
>>
>>154710484
It's a $30 add on, not an individual tier. When you back it you can add it on in the following page.
>>154710490
The fanbase is small but rabidly loyal. I think they publish mostly things with slightly wider (still niche) appeal that have fewer diehard fans willing to spend money.
>>
>>154710550
FUCK this layout btw
>>
>>154710490
Unsounded has lived off of its small but loyal fanbase since its inception. I think most of the readers have been reading it for a decade or longer. Webcomics as a format really had a moment in the mid 00s and now they struggle against video format content. Younger generations just aren't as interested in them.

The non-US shipping costs are insane but whatever, it's your comic, guess I'm paying that. Even across choppy waters the biggest upside of this entire thing is you were able to secure a publisher to print this entire series. As a reader that's all I want, that's fantastic, and I will be backing the ones next year for that reason. I'm so excited to have physical copies of Unsounded.

I never figured out what to stick Boo to so I wound up getting him framed. The magnet and whichever pin I didn't get from the Kickstarter I bought off Ashley directly. I have some bookmarks too but I didn't feel like hunting for them.

Wish I had money for a commission. It would be a lewd commission.

How does one do this? I don't even remember the bookplates being a thing.

Same. If I get lucky enough to snag one I'm getting a (more) explicit version of >>154711960.

IKTF. I'm about 30,000 words into my Brawny Peg Jizz; or the Memoirs of a Sharteshanian of Leisure; fanfic but I just can't make it sing the way an Ashley commission could.

The bookplates are from the second of the original Kickstarters.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/502093706/unsounded-comic-volume-2/rewards
You could get a custom black and white bookplate sketch of any character of your choosing. I remember someone saying they chose Ssael. I think a few others chose senets we hadn't seen yet at that point in the comic. It's probably my most prized possession.

The magnet and pin I bought off of Ashley's shop on her website, it's mostly defunct now but I know she's opened the opportunity to buy leftover merch from her directly through email/paypal in the past. I don't know if she has anything but it doesn't hurt to ask if you're interested.

Nice to see a fellow Anon who also scored both the pins. I raise you all three original volumes signed. My two bookplates are Duane and Mikaila.

If you recognize the picture without the name, sup.

I am bitterly jealous that I didn't get to attend any signings/cons Ash did. I know about them but I don't recall if the last one was before I started following or not. I first picked up the comic properly from the page where Jivi got new clothes at Iori's, but had been following it on /co/ for maybe 2-3 months before that. The day she does another one is the day I fly across the country to meet her. You definitely outdo my collection, I didn't even have the money to get my original copies sketched/signed from the Kickstarters, I was a broke recovering NEET back then.

I feel you, I was a broke ass college student but I lived in Orlando so I could make it to the couple of conventions she did so I was just lucky.

And though I have no physical record of it, the 2015 meetup each got to ask her one full-spoiler question. Mine still has not been revealed in the comic.

This is the first time I might ever be jealous I don't live in Florida.

I think she's mentioned potentially doing a signing at her local comic shop. Gotta get all the new volumes signed there so I can remain smugly superior to my fellow fans.

Jab Beadman's can do all that.
>>
>>154718853
But can you gloat about the slave labor used to make your pymaric chair having come from you personally rather than some entrepreneur? And you having specially bred those slaves for generations back to be tailor made to your needs as a chair? No. Beadman has gutter slaves, yours are pedigree.

I didn't even notice it was the plat kids he was literally sitting on jesus christ
>>
>>154719570
I dunno if they actually are kids. I think they might just be midgets.

And with that born in mind, it's possible Goodwin the plat fighting is like 12 or something. Select for small size, select for early maturity, etc, etc. Valentin must have gone through so many failed generations to get his stock right. I'm completely convinced he eats plat meat too.

I know there’s a slowdown with these KSes especially with this fandom because it’s small and dedicated rather than broad, so you probably hit the cap on everyone who’s been waiting to back pretty quickly. For anyone’s more familiar, is this one on track to beat the 1st?
>>
>>154719659
Goodheim looks burlier than the average plat, I think they're selecting for increased size to make them better at physical stuff too.
>>
>>154720301
It’s Goodwin and Sackheim iirc which also raises the possibility he was literally named for purpose i.e. ‘win good’.
>>
Completely unrelated to the current page or the Kickstarter, but do you have a melody for Isabel Ne'er-do-Well in your head? Either one you've come up with yourself or based on a real song? Quick jaunt through the Q&A tumblr suggests it's supposed to be sea shanty-ish, but I can't quite come up with one I like for it
>>
>>154721424
You could ask Ashley if she has a canon meter. At least one person has sung it in the fanart contests:
I find it hard to figure out because the words get a bit messy. In my head it's a very stop-start on the 'ells' and the kind of thing that might be more spoken than sung by a bunch of drunks. The sea shanty thing checks out for me because, as we all know, hell is in the ocean in this universe and the stopping-starting over the 'ells' I hear fits the pitch and yaw of a boat.

But I can't sing, so I can't transfer my version to you.

There are some other songs:

I spent the first two full days of last Kickstarter following, and the pledges were pretty consistent then. By day 3 it was slowing down a lot more. The pledges in the first Kickstarter did start dropping off in average price more slowly than this one, but we also started with the average pledge being around $100 for quite a while. I think having an actual piece of Unsounded merch you can get as an add on will encourage people to spend more. It's also all new to print material whereas the last books weren't, so no one is likely to sit them out for their old copies. Unfortunately I didn't keep any of my crazy scribblings when tracking how much everyone was donating on average across time, so I have little to compare it to properly. The biggest factor working against this one might be how soon it was after the other, and shipping costs. If ICC plays their cards right with better stretch goals that are more realistically priced, that too. Time will tell how things go.

>100 for quite a while
For the current one, that is. Lot of people getting the map and print volumes.
>>
>>154721424
Yeah, and it's nothing like >>154721843. Mine is a lot more lively and bouncy. I also sing it quite quickly. It's not the same melody as Ring Around the Rosie, but at least similar in feel to it. Something children would learn and sing as a game but that isn't likely to be performed.
>>154721843
Black Tongue Blues also got a fanmade version and it's become definitive to me. I had nothing in mind for how it was supposed to sound before, which is probably helpful, but it just feels right for Bastion. Now I hear it in my head anytime I'm reading through that scene.

It's here at the bottom of the 2021 contest.

This made me reread the musical number and man I would kill to hear Ruck and Bastion in that chapter voiced by good VAs. So many good lines. Ruck trying this artificial politeness but just immediately and increasingly creating foreboding.
>>
>>154722362
The worst part about the artificial politeness is that I think Ruck sincerely believes he's being polite and charming. And he's actually trying to be. But that doesn't do anything to change what's lurking right underneath.
