She has been saying that Lute has a lot of trauma, that she has a sympathetic reason to hate sinners. Viv has gone record to say that she likes it when we get to know the characters, to let them simmer, and coincidentally she has said that Lute needs time to simmer, that they set her up big. Amir (Alastor's VA) low-key hinted that's something is going on with her backstory, and expressed intrigue at it.This is all scratching the surface by the way. Then there's the old leaks that have spread around, and funny enough, what has been outlined with Eve in those leaks matches with what Lute has been doing in the show so far.

Something I don't see people talk about nearly as much, that I think I should bring to all of your guys's attention: Lute's name. Even the people who 100% agree that Adam named his soldiers don't bring this up. But, if you look at the old audition sheets for the characters, there's some for Lute. On them, we see two other soldiers listed: Labianne and Clitorissa (yes for real) - given that Adam confirmed that he named Vaggi not only after "the best thing ever", he names the soldiers vulgar things. Lute is literally short for lieutenant, Viv confirmed that. She said it was originally a placeholder name until they figured out what they were going to name her, but she got attached and it just stuck. But in-universe, it's so far off Adam's usual theme with the names he comes up with, I don't think he named her. I think Sera did...
