Combat has been a little simplified in that you don't learn new movies through leveling up, but they make up for it with a focus on characters and writing. There's seven playable characters, and they each have unique dialogue for cutscenes. The story is a loose sequel to Takes Off, but all it really takes from that is the exes being on good terms with Scott and Ramona. The villains are Gideon's kids, implied to be with Stacey, who travelled back in time to take over Toronto. It's all pretty silly, but lots of fun.And Knives Chau gets hypnotized, if you're into that like I am.If it was a sixty dollar game, I'd be harsher on it, but for under thirty bones I'd say I got more than my money's worth.

There's no story it wants to tell, there's no mechanics it wants to show off, there's no art (music or pixel) that makes it stand out, there is attention given to each character in cutscenes, sure, but they all play the exact same in combat. It is 'walk to the right and punch people as Scott Pilgrim.' That's it. And if all you want to do is punch people for a couple of hours, then that's fine, but there's no actual meat there. It's a game doing the bare minimum to be a game, and has no interest in even trying to be anything more. If you've played any beat-em-up, you've played EX, and it was probably a better beat-em-up.Plus, you can't play as Kim.

I've always wanted to do my own adaptation of the comic. It would be much more faithful, but I'd also wanna make Gideon more of a freak. As in, he not only wants Ramona for himself, but he'd also take her dead corpse and fuck it. Scott would call him sick and he'd go "Well at least I never dated a highschooler" while him and everyone in the room laughs at him and then Scott fucking beats up with a headbutt after a beautiful scene animated by Eric Goldberg or James Baxter.I thought Takes off was fucking awesome because it gave more attention to characters that did not get any attention in the comics, it serves as a sequel to the original story as a way for the characters to do more self reflection.I'm surprised you guys, the smartest people on the planet, couldn't see that, and decided to see it as another anti man Netflix show by SJWs.

I think the general consensus on EX is, how much you'll love it depends on how much you love Scott Pilgrim.
