Bad timing? They were doing it untill the BP book called dibs on storm, so it had to end, and then they stuck with it during the post avx era but then they decided to kill logan. And then it was krakoa and they wanted to do the threesome stuff, so outside of one tease they didnt do it.

They're on the same team again though in the upcoming book.

The whole reason they broke up was a bullshit asspull on editorial's part "Oh Destiny says Mystique is endgame with me, so we need to break up", which is hilarious in retrospect with how gay they made Mystique and Destiny. btw there's some discussion that it was actually Mystique the whole time when Forge broke up with Storm, which tracks.

It really is a disgusting, degenerate coupling that should never have been considered or allowed, characters like that should keep to their own kind and like should stay with like this kind of woke nonsense shouldn't be tolerated. Forge broke up with Storm because he asked her to marry him then got nervous and asked Jean to scan Storms mind to see if she was going to say yes (and since Jean was written by a proper writer, she told him she'd never abuse her powers like that) leading to Forge deciding he wasn't worthy of Storm and deciding to redeem himself by tending to Mystique, who had been tortured until she was driven insane, by Spiral.

Years later, it was revealed that Destiny only told Forge his destiny was with Mystique both to keep her in line (as Destiny knew Mystique needed someone to keep her from doing all sorts of bad shit) and because she needed Mystique near Forge because Adversary was going to come back and kill Forge and conquer the planet and Mystique had to protect him.
