>Earth’s Mightiest Mutants assemble!>Earlier today at the Marvel Comics: Avengers: Armageddon panel at San Diego Comic-Con, superstar writer Chip Zdarsky shed light on the era that follows AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON (2026), including his upcoming AVENGERS (2026) run with Marco Checchetto where the Avengers are left to pick up the pieces of a shattered world that’s turned against them. As the Avengers take time to regroup, an all-new X-Men team rises to take their place as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in MAXIMUM X-MEN, a new ongoing series by acclaimed writer Christopher Yost—returning to the X-Men after his acclaimed work on the franchise in the 2010s—and artist Tony S. Daniel, who recently made his own return to the world of X in Jed MacKay's X-MEN (2024).>Together, the two X-Men veterans introduce an all-new, all-different kind of X-team as Storm, fresh off her stint with Avengers, recruits a lineup of all-star mutant heroes—including X-Men mainstays and a pair of iconic mutant Avengers—to confront global threats no other team is equipped to deal with, beginning with nothing less than a relentless inter-dimensional invasion! Both creators joined the panel as surprise guests to discuss the new series.>In the wake of the events of AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are no more! So who will stand in defense of the Earth? The X-Men will! Storm gathers an elite team for just that task, including Wolverine, Colossus, Bishop, Iceman, Psylocke, Firestar, and Justice! Mutants by birth, heroes by choice! And their first challenge is a full-on invasion from the Negative Zone! Is this Annihilus again—or something far, far worse?
>On reuniting with Marvel’s Merry Mutants, Yost shared “I’ve worked on my fair share of X-Books over the years, but MAXIMUM X-MEN is everything I love about comics rolled into one— it’s underdog heroes saving the world from the biggest Avengers-level threats imaginable, it’s mind-breaking action and drama and everything people expect from X-Men, all with a classic Claremont vibe. Rolling MAXIMUM X-MEN out as part of the new world post-Armageddon only lets us spotlight the need for a story like this… and to top it all off, I get to work with legendary artist Tony Daniel. As a life-long X-Men fan, it doesn’t get any better!”>“The X-Men have long been my favorite characters since discovering GIANT SIZE X-MEN (1975) #1 in the fourth grade,” Daniel added. “I’ve always dreamed of working on my favorite characters so it’s an incredible honor to launch MAXIMUM X-MEN with Chris. I’ve been a fan of Chris’s writing for a long time, but this is our first time joining forces. I’m already in love with the story in the first issue. Its vibe and energy reminds me so much of the kind of X-Men stories I loved as a child and I can’t wait for the audience to see what we have in store.”>Check out Tony S. Daniel’s cover and stay tuned for more news about the series in the months ahead. Has Silhouette ever been an X-Men as well?
>>154759384What does Justice even do? Also, team doesn't seem very mighty?
>>154759384>>Earlier today at the Marvel Comics: Avengers: Armageddon panel at San Diego Comic-ConWhy is an X-Book being announced at the Avengers panel? I'd excuse it if it was Uncanny Avengers, but this is just an X-Book>>154759448Firestar & Justice are here because he wrote New Warriors before, odds are he'll bring back the Evolutionary again
>Storm leading a team againits been forever, especially since its been a main team. Neat. And the lineup makes sense following that. Mix of outback and blue.
>>154759384>betsy back as psylocke>no rachel in sight>in the blue and gold suite tooi shall now read your x slop!
>>154760308I'd rather have rachel than betsy desu.
>>154760426sorry about your shit taste.
>>154759448Power wise? He's a mid tier telekinesis user.
>>154760468Other than straight shota moments with Doug, British Betsy didn't really have anything interesting going on.
>>154760468Nah
>>154759384Wolverine and Colossus feel a little out of place. I mean there are all these high tier energy manipulators on the team, and even Bishop brings time travel and a massive box of gadgets with him, but then there are these two dudes who can do like regular punching and that's it.
>>154760659Storm trusts both of them a lot, so it makes sense from that POV.
Wait, so Rogue's not the leader anymore? What about the Alaskan branch? Is Scott still leading his X-Men? It would be fun to have two different Psylockes on two different teams.
>>154760639Yea but british betsy is an incredibly low fucking bar. going away from psylocke betsy back to irrelevant d tier mantle was "definition of insanity" level retarded
>>154759384I don't like Justice or Firestar hanging out with X-weirdos
>>154760696Different book. Third one. I'm guessing logan's not going to be on simone's book anymore.
>>154760851I see. I suppose Simone's book will be cancelled anyway because it is not doing well.
>>154760910Maybe? But it'd be weird if there isnt abook called "uncanny" ngl.
>>154759384>PsylockeI'm a bit confused as to how they will square that while Kwannon is still around.
>>154759384How much longer until today's panel?
>>154761839Marvel has two wolverines, two spider-men, two captain americas rn
Bros it will never happen....but....Bobby needs to be ungayed....
>>154762591only when you stop touching yourself
>>154762494A few hours from now
>>154761839She was Psylocke before then. A pun on Psyche, given her butterfly motif and assigned when she got camera eyes installed in her. Kwannon calling herself Psylocke is terrible from an in-universe view and only because they want to keep the name with the ninja.
>>154760308now lets turn down the bitch o meter and make brian cap britain again and the healing can begin
>>154762691Here here! not sure if 97 is to thank for all this, but Betsy not being scorched earth just feels right
>>154762667Cebulski crossing his arms and pouting when someone suggests just calling her Revanche again like they did in the 90s.
>>154762914It's a cb thing?
>>154762914Don't know why Cebulski would care when the office before him were the ones that had Kwannon use the name despite wanting nothing to do with Betsy.
>>154763142Kwannon came back under Cebulski, speculation that he pushed for it because he was self-conscious about his own past Akira Yoshida moment.
>>154759384that's not Gambit at all, who is this white man?Honestly I'm just glad seeing my guy Colossus being a Superhero again.
>>154763219So what, is he afraid she'll fall into obscurity if she can't piggyback off Betsy?
>>154763306Justice from the New Warriors. Firestar's ex-fiancée.
>YostI like that>Firestar and JusticeI like them>Blue gold suitsthose are good>Doing actual super hero shitOkay, I'm not going to complain about something that sounds promising but where's the other shoe?
>>154759448>Also, team doesn't seem very mighty?Firestar can actually be very strong if writers remember to let her do stuff. I just hope they don't retread that cancer bullshit.
>>154763388Could be that Asian Betsy was identified as Psylocke for so long in other media that a name-change would hurt her somehow, yeah.
>>154763529She's an alcoholic with PTSD now, so she's coming into this well equipped for medical drama. No need to bring up the cancer again.
>>154759384So how long until Psyloke, Justice and Firestar get new costumes? Larraz is a good artist, but his original costumes for X-Men were not good, so I'm happy to see Firestar ditched hers.
>>154763583>he's an alcoholic with PTSD nowbooo. I really hope her and Justice aren't treated as "uncle toms" by the other mutants. I think Yost is better than that but x-books gonna x-book
>>154763717Yost wrote Justice a while back in New Warriors, so I doubt he will be pulling the mutie crab barrel they usually do.
I love Vance, but I really do not like this new X-suit. His regular outfit was already great
>>154763841It's the generic training uniform.
>>154759384Sounds like X-Force. X-Treme X-Force? MAX-Force?
>>154763717Angelica already got the Uncle Tom treatment from other mutants during Krakoa before she won them over, she's over that hill already.
>>154763841Vance has been rocking that look for a long while hasn't he? I'd assume the training uniforms are just place holders until they get new costumes. But he needs his cape back, no argument there.
>>154763996Not enough marvel heroes wear cape.
>>154760645Rachel was so hot
>>154763841>>154763903What sucks is his normal costume would look great in X-men colors. Just turn the navy blue into yellow and the light blue into navy and turn the star into a big X
>>154764411I'd like to see Angela in something closer to her second New Warriorrs costume again.
>>154764485My ideal would be take that 90s outfit, add cleavage like the OP design and extend the red boots to thigh high level.
>>154764485why are boots so wrinkly, is she going into super fight with long socks?
>>154759384aw man why is betsy in a generic suit instead of her captain britain one D:
>brown suit wolverineThe superior choice.
>>154764575Because she's back to being Psylocke and her CB armor sucked.
>>154764382Kinda wish she got to lead an Exiles lineup or something. The funky things she can do with time is somewhat in line with the kinds of adventures the Exiles are known for.
>>154762598Wdym?
>>154764652What would be your ideal exiles lineup?
>>154759384>Marvel Avengers panel at SDCC>Gets used to announce another new X-book>Having already taken Firestar, now they're grabbing Justice>No actual Avengers new outside of Iron Man's book and the Rulk event bookJesus, Marvel. Hasbro gave us better Avengers news.
>>154765577BlinkMorphNocturne
>>154759384How long untill they put pietro and wanda on an x-men lineup?
>>154766409Meant a new one lol
>>154766507Hopefully never ever. Protect them from the X-books.
>>154766629Its an eventuality anon.
>>154766629Quicksilver is already ONLY showing up in the x-men book, so
Can we get Fabian Nicieza to do something?
>>154764535>add cleavage like the OP designRemember when Wasp designed a costume for Firestar that showed boobage and she screamed and refused to wear it?
>>154766942Yes, well, that was a lot more cleavage.
>>154759384>How do we save Spider-Man?>Brick back a writer and editor from 2007>How do we save X-Men?>bring back a writer from 2007the house of ideas...
>>154767122It's too much of an old boys club, yes.
>>154759384They're really struggling for adjectives.
>>154767122Wacker isnt editor for the spider-line, he's editor in general. And these are CB things clearly.
>>154766629Quicksilver is great in X-Factor though.
Who are the xm n even fighting nowadays
>>154764652Pair her up with Cable and I'd be down to read this.
>>154763219>Kwannon came back under Cebulski, speculation that he pushed for it because he was self-conscious about his own past Akira Yoshida moment.proud japanese man forced to kneel to gaijins
>>154767816The first time around, sure. The second time around when he was a crazy villain, not so much. Yellow costumes X-Factor just never clicked for me at all, the whole line was just beyond repair by then. And I hate to be the one to break it to you, but Peter David's dead now.
>>154768056Id say the third one was pretty good
>>154759384Lets clock the new team.>FirestarOkay, this is kinda based. Not bad.>IcemanSolid choice>Colossus Very solid choice>BishopGreat choice again>StormAwesome choice, looking great so far>WolverineGreat choice, cant go wrong with wolverine>Psylocke circa 2018 retcon versionEhhhhh I don't know, she also kinda just harkens back to the 80s version of psylocke so its not like a horrible retcon its more of a new reversion. Has the Captain Britain sword. I dont know about this one, i'm gonna say probably a bad choice. Just because the character feels like it doesnt know if its psylocke or captain britain. Trying to be two things at once, a jack of all trades master of none. >JusticeDefinitely a weirder choice, not the absolute worst choice but its definitely not good in comparison to whom else could have been put on the team. Though i guess hes just the avenger but a mutant stand in/ tie in.
>>154768295Overall 6.5/10 not really worth reading based off the team alone.
>>154768295I'm hoping Yost gives Betsy a real rehab. No more sword and board but back to flips, kicks and psi-knifing people through the brain.
WHen Storm leads the team, people die XD
>>154768295>>Bishop>Great choice againkek, the genocider facist is a great choice XD
>>154768374 >genocider facist is a great choicewe unfortunately live in a world where Krakoa existed so this means nothing
>>154768563he did commited genocide before the Krakoashit era.And cant blame a cosmic chicken like other people.
>>154768591>he did commited genocide before the Krakoashit era.so did Magneto and he's on the X-men
>>154768591Didn't they try to retcon that by saying he was possessed by the Demon Bear?
>>154768608Ehhh, depends how you count it amount wise.
>>154759384>BetsyOh god, didnt they give her the boot? what an unpleasant sight...
>>154759384>superstar writer Chip Zdarsky
>>154768768Yes, I laughed too. But this book is by Chris Yost who has a pretty good track record.
I feel like Kyle and Yost have been weirdly quite for the past decade or so. I know Yost was doing a lot of TV shit so it's not like he fell off the face of the earth but they were on fire in the late 00s early 10s.
Who and why are they still reading this stuff
>>154769229Yost wrote the first draft of ragnarok actually, before taika taike-d it up
>>154769311Yeah, he also did some Netflix Cowboy Bebop. Which I'm sure was also edited to fuck.
>>154769229TV stuff makes more money, usually.
>>154768608Yeah, Magneto in the X-men is a stupid thing too. Also they forgive Raven just because she is a a trans not trans.
>>154764575Because no one likes Betsy as Captain Britain
>>154767122Yeah but Yost is actually good. If anything he's being squandered by being put on yet another X-Men book
>>154765577>What would be your ideal exiles lineup? Not him but...> Fem-Thor (Earth X)> Zarda / Power Princess (JMS's Supreme Power)> Captain Marvel (Original Ultimate)> Wanda Zatara (Amalgam)> Blink> Izumi (Spider-Man Fairy Tales)
>>154760468No one care about Betsy everything popular about her left with Kwannon.
>>154766233Turn out Kekvengers don't really sell and have no motion outside of the movie.
>>154768053At least he's being sent back home to Japan. He can be among his peepuru now.
>>154759384>absolute x-men
>>154759486because avengers will always be a b-lister book which doesn't excite anyone
>>154760837Neither do I, but I trust Yost enough to hope he'll make a point of them being primary New Warriors and Avengers, unsaddled by the X-bullshit and not defining themselves by their genome
>>154759384>Wolverine is both in Avengers and X-menIts like the early 2000 again!
>>154772514He's also got his solo book and appears in oneshots and miniseries. I remember at one point during From the Ashes he appeared in like a dozen different issues in a month.
>>154770600>>154771395>same old retard argumentsHistorically how well Avengers sell as a comic has varied depending on the creative team and the lineup, and despite the team becoming household names with normies thanks to the movies, modern Marvel made the retarded decision to just had no interest in trying to put big names on the book or make it sell well. This new X-book is just Wolverine and a bunch of B- to D-listers, mostly the usual B- to D-listers, don't any of you pretend you're actually excited about it.
>Betsy will finally do something other than kissing RachelNice. Too bad she is in a generic suit.
>>154772108>Neither do I, but I trust Yost enough>one of the two guys best known for a book where they were slaughtering teen characters>and for the book where Cyclops runs a secret death squadKyle and Yost were also two of the main guys who went all in on Emma yelling "Where were you when Genosha was destroyed?" at other superheroes and we're supposed to agree with her, too. Why the hell would we trust one of these guys?
>>154768615No...he just feel bah when he was trapped in the future's future, he didnt even say he was sorry for kill billions of people.
>>154772989I feel like the complaints of her hooking up with Rachel are overstating it a lot. They were only an item for how long, like six issues of Tini Howard's thirty-something-long stint on writing Betsy? It's really not come up that much in terms of page count.
>>154773047Yost also wrote the new warriors run hat used justice and firestar well, the only good avengers cartoon, x-men evo...Though that new x-men was good, should be noted the "get rid of extra characters" was an editoiral thing.
>>154773047Yost may be an edgelord, but he's a pretty entertaining writer.
Outside Jed and Simone's title, has any of this ongoing been at least mediocre?
>>154773204The ongoing Inglorious X-Force is okay. I don't expect anyone to remember it after it wraps up at 10 issues. My impression of the ongoing Wolverine series is basically the same. If you like Wolverine and you've read any Wolverine comics in the past twenty years, you will probably be able to crack open any issue of it and think "this is a Wolverine comic just like every other Wolverine comic I know."
>>154773328Its a solid run, yeah.Wolverine is pretty bad
>>154770471Solid lineup, though cant use wanda zatara legally and all.
>>154770436He also might be the guy who can turn the x-books around.
>>154774591Maybe with a full relaunch, im sure this book will be a shining light, like amazing x-men was.
>>154773084The fuck are you talking about? Literally all of Tini Howard's Captain Britain series is about them being so madly in love with each other that they're already living together shortly after the events of Excalibur. Then in X-Force by Thorne, every single time Betsy appears on page, So does Rachel. Literally I went through and counted once, in a ten-issue run, they share exactly two pages separate. On most pages, they're on panel together, calling each other pet names. Not to mention they had a whole chapter in the Mystique/Destiny wedding issue talking about if they were going to get married too. It's all garbage.
>>154775427This is what's so annoying about how they write gays. Everything about them has to be about how they're the most perfect and true love couple ever that will never ever suffer any hardship or struggle or anything bad! It's saccharine.
>>154759384Dude who cares. Why do you people still read X-men
>>154766233Disney is done with the Avengers and moving on to milk teh X-men
