Currently still writing the first chapter of my latest fic. It’s taking much longer than I’d like but I haven’t had a lot of free time lately and that bites. I just need to buckle down and get these last few pages done and I can finally submit it.

Was this on Ao3 or FF? FF is a given, it's basically unusable shit now between bots, audience collapse cause of bots, and tech issues

The bots have gotten bad on Ao3 tho, I got a bot comment just the other day.

The big thing to watch out for is them offering you art or trying to lead you off site. Though Ao3 has had some more sophisticated bots, or rather they try to obfuscate the linking a bit. There's recently been one posing as Ao3 staff telling you you're in trouble unless you click a link.

If it gets that bad, you can always block guest comments on Ao3, which eliminates most (not all) bot comments.

I find it kinda funny when you see writers posting really obvious bot attempts asking "um is this a bot?", but at the same time I do understand it cause it's a real fucking gut punch for new writers to get their first mention of someone doing fanart of something you wrote and put a ton of time and care into that the recognition of it being fake is a little sidelined.

And even if you are aware of them, getting a comment is always a little nice moment writers look forward to, and getting bot spam instead especially on a story you really cared about burns. One time, I had like 3 bot comments in 24 hours a story that I knew was gonna be obscure and unpopular, thought someone or a few people liked it enough to comment only to open it up and see fucking discord link spam attempts. This is what really soured FF on me after using it for years. I think I've had only 2 bot comments on Ao3 in that timeframe, I must've had like 20+ on FF, plus Ao3 has plenty of real comments in between while FF seems to have petered off dramatically around 2023 or 24 or so.

Yep.

FF had been kinda cruising along for a while, with Ao3 being quite large by the late 2010s at least. Ao3 I think may have surpassed in user base by then, but FF had (and still does based on fic numbers) larger communities for some franchises. Also the kind and number of stories could differ a lot based on which site it was, like Ao3 is noticeably gayer than FF, generally speaking, so there was a reason to still prefer FF back then from that angle. Crossposting was generally the way to go even then though.

But I believe Ao3 really exploded in popularity around the pandemic for reasons I don't know, and, looking back through my emails and reviews it looks like the bots got started in 2025 rather than 2024 than I thought. It's felt like forever.

In any case, I've noticed that real favs/follows/reviews have dropped dramatically. I'm not sure if any data reflecting this is out there, but I'm pretty certain FF's userbase is down a lot, or it at least certainly feels like it. I think a lot of users just hopped over to Ao3. We have some people whinge about the tagging system not being perfect and Ao3 having a lot of gay shit, which, like, yeah, that's true, but it's simply better in pretty much every way with the exception of PM's if you liked those from FF (granted they are ripe for bot abuse so I get not having them)

The real kicker too is the technical issues. I wasn't able to upload a story for a while for no good reason, and had to switch all the text from a previous document to upload (my final upload for the site, too). This along with longterm issues like the pain of getting the mods to add tags makes FF extremely cumbersome and shit in this day and age.

I am currently working on a story set in the JoJo universe with /co/ characters. Right now I am thinking of Stand abilities for the two tritagonists. I have already planned the final scene, which takes place at the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport and it's a goodbye scene. It references the ending of Stardust Crusaders, as well as the ending of one the source materials since there that scene is also a goodbye scene and ends with a "The End." card, that is why I am using that source material's original soundtrack instead of the one from SC, and I chose this song for the credits because I want to and ends it in a happy note.

I've been more into Ao3 for many years now, but FF had a lotta legacy to burn. Some of the holdouts they still have there are people with like 20+ year old accounts where they made friends with people back then and had other writer pals that died and shit, stuff that means a lot to them that hurts to throw away.

1. Another Tangled The Series Fic

I wrote a Tangled fic that leaned heavily into what the show did, and I feel like I need to write another, one of these days. I don't think I'm finished with Rapunzel as a character. She's still got a hold on me and I want to give her what I think she deserves as a character.

Tentative title that I've bounced around my head for years is "Rapunzel and the Doors of Midnight." The one plot point I have is that Cassandra comes back, and then the Sundrop and the Moonstone come back too, BUT, crucially, the two girls get mixed up in reuniting with their powers. In other words: the Moonstone goes to Rapunzel, the Sundrop goes to Cassandra. The dynamic of them having to figure out how to use their direct-opposite powers feels like it'd fuel the fic and make it a lot of fun.

But I need to figure out a lot more first.

2. DC Super Hero Girls Fic

Another show, and set of characters, that I think I owe a story to. In particular Zee is basically my /co/ waifu, and all my favorite girls get a fic from me sooner or later. Idea I have in mind is to make it a bit of a Zee/Diana fic and have something involving Hecate, the Greek Goddess of Magic. I heard that the mainstream DCU did something along these lines in a Justice League Dark storyline, but I also heard it was kind of shit, and, frankly, I think I'm a better writer than anybody at DC these days, so I think I could do a better job with such a concept.

3. Something With Sleeping Beauty

I've done a lot of writefagging and loremongering in the Sleeping Beauty threads we habitually have. I was a major contributor to the Sorceress Aurora threads, the Dark Disney/Vampire Aurora threads, and the Aurora-as-Maleficent's-apprentice threads. I need to pay it all off, sooner or later, with a full-blown story where Aurora's the star. She'll obviously be wielding magic, but what kind I haven't decided. Or, I think maybe I have, but I do need to commit.

To my knowledge there have been 2 or 3 major FF purges, at least one in the 2000's and another in the early 2010's.

These were really just to rid the site of smut which has technically been against the rules for a long time.

I remember when I posted lemons on FF in 2017 getting comments saying my stuff was going to get caught in the next purge but they have never done one since that last oin around 2011/12 or so lol

Well that's the thing. The character causes a lot of small changes within the work along with major changes.
It is just that a lot of the overarching plots in Dragon Ball stay the same on certain levels because of the kind of character Goku is.
So just as a quick rundown:
>Former Red Ribbon soldier, got fired because she was getting too tall and Red didn't like that
>Beats Bacterian in prelims, beats Krillin, loses to Roshi, stays for the rest of the tournament

Kudos/hit ratios are just kinda unpredictable and random, though I think the it gets better with smaller fandoms that appreciate the works more as there are fewer.

I can tell you it's 12 chapters long and the climax takes place on December 16th, 2015 since that is an important date that represents one of the main characters metaphorically entering his adulthood, (There is an epilogue that takes place in 2016, though).

I have an idea for a comic book but i cant draw write and am not focused enough to learn any of the skills required to do it
I was thinking of a fantasy series about a young knight on his Walz (Wandering years basically nobles used to send of their children away for one or two years to see the world and make some experinces)

Have an idea for a Spider-Man fic where Miles visits Peter’s universe for spring break. With each chapter being a single day. It would be set in my own take on Spider-Man that’s why Miles still lives in the original Ultimate universe.
