Is it wrong that i like old marvel and dc comics from the 60s, 70s and early 80s way more than current comics?
>>
I'd say that makes you normal, but then I need to consider that you felt the need to make this thread.
>>
No, it's very understandable.
>>
Modern writing is all shit because its incesteous.

Originally it was people who lived real ass lives, or actual writers writing comic books
Then it became comic book readers writing comic books
And then comic book readers writing comic books written by other comic book readers
Each time it gets further from the source, each time it gets further from real shit, and with each iteration the writer seems to understand the source character less.
>>
>>154782424
aren’t they cheaper to collect and read at local shops?
>>
>>154783668
Everything is a homage because their brains are nothing but their source material, they bring nothing to it from their lives or other literature.
>>
>>154784235
>they bring nothing to it from their lives
Well Tom King does, we'd just rather he didn't.
>>
>>154784296
Well I meant experience from life and lifestyles or work lived, but authors now just mean their bugbears about their ex-wives.
>>
>>154782424
95% of the comics I buy these days are from before 2000.
Just got a bunch of JLI, even though I have it in trades.
>>
>>154783668
I feel like you're kinda close but it's more like

>originally it was people who lived real ass lives and/or grew up on older sci-fi and classic literature and the then-current pop culture (comic strips, films, radio, pulps)
>Then it became comic book fans (who still grew up reading stuff outside of superhero comics) writing comics
>Then it became superhero fans who mainly read superhero comics and took in then-current movies and TV
>Then it became people who barely understand a comic or don't have time or don't want to read old comics in order to understand the source character other than a cliff notes flanderization

This also applies to the editorial that's supposed to guide these writers
>>
I have mr. miracle 1980s and blue beetle 1980s
and more recent is the new defenders from the 80s
>>
>>154784471
Lowe praised Nick for reading every issue of Spider-Man prior to his run. You know, rather than a basic requirement before starting a run. There are zero expectations to know the material.
>>
>>154782424
yes your a faggot harry
>>
>>154783668
Baudrillard was a prophet
>>
>>154782424
Old comics were aimed at kids but were still mature and sincere.
Current comics anything post 2000 is larping as mature and aimed at manchildren.
>>
>>154782424
Yes, because DC didn’t become readable until Post-Crisis.
>>
>>154783668
then how do explain mariko tamaki?
>>
>>154782424
normal
>>
>>154783668
I agree to a certain extent. It’s definitely true for the Titans, and Superman, who went from solving working man issues, to punching gods in the face and tanking supernovas. But I wouldn’t call modern writers shit. At least not on DC’s side. They’re just having to work with a previously established shitty status quo. Like vandal savage being the police chief of Gotham, which came from Zdarsky’s run
>>
>>154784486
Lowe wrote one of the worst fanboy runs of all time so that's an argument in favor of a writer not doing that.
>>
>>154782424
Yeah. 60s and 70s comics sucked ass. Current ones suck too, but that's beside the point.
>>
>154787358
>conveniently excludes 80s comics from his shitty bait
>>
>>154782424
I don’t watch, read, listen or play anything made after the year 2000 and I don’t feel deprived in the slightest
>>
>>154787683
Because they're actually good, sperglord.
>>
>>154784486
I don't think that reading every issue of Spider-Man is a basic requirement for writing Spider-Man.

I'd say first 100 issues and the most recent 100 issues of AMS should be minimum with the ideal being the first 300-ish issues (arbitrary place to stop) of AMS and then a curated list of 'important' events in Peter/Spidey's life.

Expecting someone to have read every issue of AMS plus all the various secondary/tertiary titles PLUS all the appearances in crossovers or other books is absurd. I don't think there are a triple-digit number of people on /co/ who can honestly make that claim.
>>
>>154782424
No
>>
>>154782424
Silver age is torture to read but bronze age is the peak of comics.
>>
>>154788381
There are some silver age comics that are great reads like Enemy Ace or Bat Lash and there are some bronze age comics that are a wordy chore to read because some writers had the idea that they should feel like novels.
>>
>>154782424
No. Modern comics suck.
>>
>>154782424
No and I'm glad you enjoy comics unlike most of the sour grapes on this board who spend all day complaining about new stuff
>>
>>154784486
You don't need to read every issue of ASM to write it, that's stupid. Really the only requirement should be everything Lee was a part of and the last run
>>
>>154788381
I'm a zoomer and I thought Ditko ASM was great and Romita was better still. Even the over verbose Lee captioning grew on me
>>
>>154789606
>enjoy comics
>complaining about new stuff
These two are not mutually exclusive.
>>
>>154782424
OK, boomer
>>
>>154782424
>I prefer over-narration, flowery language, dumbing and toning everything down to meet CCA censorship demands, overt politics, simplistic moralism, cliches, repetitive story elements, endless recaps, characters acting like dumbasses, constant “can’t change the status quo” cop outs

Sounds like your literacy is at a child’s level
>>
>>154790065
Calm down Slott. Just because you've only wrote 00's apocrypha doesn't mean you have to be salty about better past writers.
>>
>>154789730
You really have to be in the right mood for Lee imo. He can be fun, and he’s got the right type of energy for the medium, but sometimes he gets really excessive with the narration and it feels like you’re reading the same few sentences over and over and over again.
>>
>>154789730
What does your age have anything to do with it? reading that crap is forcibly turning your brain to mush, unless your brain is already mush.
>>
>>154790596
No more so than any other superhero comic.
>>
>>154791006
Nah, even by those standards.

For me it's comics from the 2000s. Not even in a NEW COMICS BAD kind of way. I just grew up on those and feel the most at home with them. Even the mediocre and bad comics from that era feel nostalgic.
>>
>>154782424
It's wrong that so many people seem to suddenly hate comics from before the 80s
>>
>>154791722
Really? Cause to me it seems like now there's more people reading and/or liking comics made before the 80s. On this board back in the 00s and on other boards there were way more people bitching about reading comics made before the 80s.
>>
>>154791620
Stan Lee's Spider-Man is a classic. He created the blueprint.

I found this funny thumbnail and wanted to share it
The funny part is "now"
>>
>>154791722
Only weird no life nerds ever liked them.
>>
>>154793270
Nope, comics were more mainstream back them.
>>
>>154792286
>stan lee’s
>>
>>154793496
Fuck no they weren't.
>>
>>154791722
>>154793270
It's actually weird no-life nerds insisting that old comics are bad.
>>
>>154793734
Wrong.
>>
>>154790065
and that's a good thing
>>
>>154788381
depends on the character
>>
>>154793770
You're retarded. They were for loser kids that got bullied and the weirdest dirtiest adult losers.
>>

>>154793734
They were mainstream in the sense that DC and Marvel were selling millions per month to children. If you were an adult reader, yeah you were a loser.
>>
>>154793816
So they were for you specifically.
>>
>>154782424
80s and 90s were the peak
>>
>>154795504
90s are an acquired taste
>>
>>154793977
You're the tard simping for them even now. You're the smelliest loser.
>>
>>154792173
>Cause to me it seems like now there's more people reading and/or liking comics made before the 80s

It’s called accessibility. Mixed with certain level of artificial snobbery.
