I'd agree but Bluey goes over deep shit every once in a while.

Case and point, the episode where they talk about how that one woman is barren and can't have kids

And Sesame Street talks about death, divorce, racism, having an incarcerated parent, sexual abuse, and HIV.
Having stories that guide children through heavy topics doesn't make it not a kids show. Hell, teaching kids about difficult issues is what most children's books are about.

I do think Bluey is pretty great and goes pretty hard with pulling heartstrings and dealing with deeper stuff but I wouldn't say it's not for kids
only that it's good and despite being for kids it can appeal to parents too
it's pretty sad that "for kids" = "garbage show" and if it doesn't feel like garbage then it can only mean it's "not actually for kids"
just a weird mentality...

Mr. Hooper fucking legit died for real when I was like 4 years old and they talked Big Bird through that shit. No punches pulled.

Travis has to fucking put Old Yeller down, and that was considered an important movie to show boys.

>>
>>154814639
I always get a kick out of how parents almost universally forbid their kids from listening to anything metal but don't bat an eyelid at their elementary school age kids listening to the trashiest most degenerate pop music, rap or even reggaeton. Why's that, you reckon?

It's very odd how Americans have this belief that children should never learn anything about any bad things and just be endlessly coddled until puberty. Pretty much everyone else understands that children's stories should be moral lessons and should not shy away from how these things play out in reality.

kids shows can be based to watch on weed. at least they can look pretty even if the writing sucks. meanwhile adult show:
>hmmm desaturate the image because we never evolved past 2011 or crank the bloom way the fuck up and use the most garish palette possible. middle ground? what?
>oh yeah and stack the cast with 5/10s and have them wear cheap costumes because beauty is evil or sonething

>"that's a wrap!" yells producer shlomo goldstein, who takes his hand off his dick long enough to close the gore vid tabs on his phone (that he made the entire cast and crew watch during lunch break)

Actually the average response was that C.S. Lewis quote that basically amounts to "fuck off who cares".

But if you're actually trying to start an argument, the reason it wasn't a "kids' show" is because it wasn't trying to be. When you make a show "for kids" or "for boys" or "for adults", you're not doing anything to include those groups, you're doing things to exclude who it's NOT for. A show can just be a show for whoever wants to watch it, and that's what MLP was.

Interviews with the writers, dvd commentary, using your fuckin eyes and ears. The characters were adults dealing with adult problems and traumas and anxieties. Hell the entire concept of the show revolves around a college age adult who has a hard time making friends because they never learned how to in school, which is not something a child who is IN SCHOOL is going to grasp.

I remember watching the Moral Orel episode "Alone" while high off my ass. Turns out it was a horrible decision because I cried during the Nurse Bendy parts KEK.

Eh. That's just splitting hairs.

For one, they explicitly had the CMC as occasional main characters to tell stories from kids perspectives. But even aside from that, even though the regular main characters were basically framed as young adults, most of the problems they faced, their character dynamics apply to kids just as well and you can read a lot of it as teaching kids how responsible adults should act.

I don't think something needs to be exclusively about kids to be for kids. Like, you think back to some of the classic Disney shows, Rescue Rangers, Tailspin, Darkwing Duck, Gummy Bears... most of them obviously had kids in them as fairly major characters, but the main characters were mostly framed as adults.

The truth is that NPCs don't pay attention to the lyrics, they just hear the music. Metal sounds harsher so it's "mean and scary" while pop and nigger/spic music is "calmer" and "softer" so it's "harmless."

>>154810474
This comic is so fucking stupid because pretty much nobody ever says that about Spongebob or Garfield, the only accurate one is Steven Universe, and usually when people say that about Steven Universe they're not saying it because of a message remotely similar to that, they're usually just praising it for all the LGBT shit, which actually makes that a fair assessment since no kids ever gave a piss about all the LGBT shit in the show, the only people who care about that are older teen/early 20s liberals, so claiming that Steven Universe wasn't intended for kids exclusively is actually accurate. If the fat guy was showing his friend actual Steven Universe and not made-up strawman Steven Universe, he would be correct. Steven Universe would be a better show if he wasn't. But he would be.

Whatever. Even if it was good, which it won't likely be, the culture that made FiM a hit across demographics simply doesn't exist anymore. It could have only happened at a time when enjoying a girly cartoon while being a man wasn't considered gay anymore and not considered cringe yet.

Matter of fact, I'd argue Brony culture and performative atheism were two of the main factors that popularized the cultural idea of "cringe".

Part of it was to strike out against normalfaggot culture and intentionally ostracize oneself. That's why bronies were so insanely tight knit, because they had to be. "People" still seethe about them to this day, despite insisting that they're "extinct".
>>
>>154823635
Plus today's kids aren't interested in cartoons anymore, everything needs to be short and eye-catching streamed on smartphones.
>>
>>154823635
> It could have only happened at a time when enjoying a girly cartoon while being a man wasn't considered gay anymore and not considered cringe yet.
Bronies had to constantly run optics insisting they weren’t gay, and full on cringe culture might not have existed to constantly obsess over them but they were considered cringe. Personally I never quite got the accusation, bronies never seemed like they were gay to me. They did and do seem like zoophiles and pedophiles though
