>One of the best european comic book published>One attempt at an english translation 5 years ago by a dude on reddit>He got banned and disappearedWell, fuck. Is there no hope?
>>154816070How good is it really?
>>154816084Very good. You can probably find the scans online somewhat easily, but the trouble is that the translation would be a nightmare to attempt. The dialogue often switches to verses and alexandrine poetry, and when the characters talk normally it's generally pretty high-brow french too.Maybe you could use AI to do the heavy lifting for you, but you'll undoubtely lose a lot.

>>154816236I found the references to french theater hardest to deal with, the verses are not iconic in english. Tried translating a few pages once and then I found there was a version based on a german edition? that was mostly better than mine
>>154816236>>154817929>>154817954Seems cool.
>>154816070If I knew French, I would help.
>>154819511The Cyrano references probably fly over the head of non-french readers, although to be fair it probably fly over 75% of french readers as well

>>154823382It's a good effort, but if I find in myself the courage to translate the entire thing in english I'll probably start from the ground up.AI can probably come up with more decent rhymes than me too
>>154823520>AI can probably come up with more decent rhymes than me tooWhy are people so eager to abdicate their independent thought to a semi-retarded mechanical Turk?
>>154816070>>154816084It's a really great series, though the art style (the characters specifically) has that awkward late 90s BD flava à la Lanfeust de Troy that for me was unappealing even back in the day. It's not bad though and the color work (traditionally painted, too) and the detail of the environments are very nice.By the way, there's an excellent Spanish edition with very good translation/adaptation work. It's a nice fallback considering one of the main duo of swordsman/poet protagonists is a Spaniard.
>>154823983Because trying to simultaneously translate the french text (and it's quite hard french to begin with) in english while keeping the rhymes, style and intent translated is a major hassle and most likely the reason TL efforts have stalled so far
>>154823520The images ITT seem to be an extremely literal translation, not sure from where, maybe it's to help non french speaking translators more than it is for reading purposes?Check that one >>154817929 from what I've seen, while it occasionally stumbles, it has much more idiomatic english and hits close to the mark
>>154824533>>154822457>most likely the reason TL efforts have stalled so farMaybe also because the series was not originally plotted to last so long and later volumes stretch out
