Divorced from the inevitable shitflinging, it’s odd to me how little content ended up being made.Even compared to another short-lived cartoon like Invader Zim, the first season alone has more minutes worth of episodes (just under 400) than the entirety of Smiling Friends (just under 300), and that show was infamous for being cut down in its prime by Nickelodeon. I’m not saying it needs to go on for another decade, but I feel like you could have gotten like 2-3 more seasons with a writers’ room.

They did all the voices, wrote/edited all the scripts, designed the characters, animated the show in Flash, on top of managing their crew. Lower-budget than Gumball, more elaborate than South Park. Animation is a team effort, but they were involved way more than what's typically normal for a showrunner. Unless you're a chronic workaholic like Genndy Tartakovsky or Dan Povenmire, you'll burnout fast. And between the WB-Paramount merger and the fact that AS's push for outsourced animation conflicted with the show's needs (to the point where ZAM was created to keep SF's animation under their control), I'm sure Zach and Michael realized that this was probably the best opportunity they both had to do something bigger before this opportunity imploded upon itself.

Zach made a bad call ending the show and not assembling an actual writers team for future seasons. The show was a massive hit with every episode being memed as they came out and I think he thought he didn't want to ruin the shows legacy by selling out or changing things by even 1%.I think he would have been great in a writers room and we would have gotten longer episodes going forward.
