Fast forward 20 years and everyone agrees the old comics were better, including the writers. When you put the audience's own thoughts in a villain's mouth, he eventually stops being a villain.
When I first tried getting into DC in the late 2000's (probably around 2010) I figured 'well I have to read these super duper important event books and the tie-ins' so I ended up reading COIE, IC, and Final Crisis. Then Geoff Johns GL is really well received so I read that and he pops up again and from that point on every time he showed up seemed like a big deal moment, a bunch of characters could die. I mostly just loved to hate him, but I remember starting to feel a bit sorry for him when I read the Blackest Night tie-in stuff he was in.Otherwise I had no idea they brought him back post New 52 until this year and I found myself kinda rooting for him. The redemption arc shouldn't work but I want it to work. He's funny, he's a comics nerd, and his history gives him a kind of threatening aura like things could go south at any moment and that makes for some good tension.

The last real time he had to reckon with the consequences of his actions was all the way back in his Blackest Night tie-in, and he was brought back every now and then as just a regular villain. Prime always had the infamy of his actions during Infinite Crisis follow him around and though it was unsaid, everyone kind of felt sorry for his state and wanted to see him actually get the peace that everyone thought he deserved. He did eventually get that after fighting and “dying” to the Batkek who Kekakus, and we all thought it was a nice bookend for his story to wrap up.But then Williamson wanted to do a bit more with Prime so he asked Snyder to bring him back to explore more aspects of his own status as a weird meta-commentary on the direction of DC’s creative history. He kinda struck while the iron was hot because Prime was basically being re-reintroduced to a brand new audience that had only heard of him via powerscaling versus debates and his frankly infamous actions during Infinite Crisis from readers eager to actually read through the troughs of capeshit now that their appettites were whetted from the Absolute titles.

Primes whole thing is he was angry nerdhood personified, but he was angry cause comics got all disgusting and dark with everyone doing grim shit. It was his entire spiral: he lashed out, then recoiled in horror that they were "ruining him," only for that realization to make him lash out further.Death Metal Secret Origins gave him a chance to start again as a "good" guy, so he's taking it. And the recent emotional climax was him realizing he'd leaned into it too hard and avoided actually coming to terms with it all and just using it as a chance to goof off and not worry about it all.

Probably helped them with heavy-duty repairs anyway - though he has been called away by Supergirl for the Zod thing.I think at least in Metropolis, Steelworks does most of the building repairs for stuff like this (and they don't charge the victims for it IIRC), so the shop itself was going to be fine. Higher priority would be preserving the inventory, which Prime could definitely do at super speed.
