On this day five years ago, the show Centaurworld premiered its first season on Netflix. It was a weird-ass show pitched during Netflix's "we'll give anyone a show" era as having the premise of "dropping Brianne of Tarth into the world of the Muppets". Likewise, it was ordered as a two-season show with no expectation for the streamer to order more. There isn't much of a fandom because the show ended over four years ago, but I believe it could gain a significant cult following as less original programming is made and more AI slop is being shoved down our throats.

So post your Horses, Wammawinks, Glendales, West Covinas, Zuliuses, Durpletons, Stabbingtons, & Cheds. Anything you got. There's lots to talk about, especially after how divisive the second season was with audiences.

I must give Netflix credit, they advertised the shit out of this show. I love the NYC billboard of it with the woman peeking at the herd from behind a tree.

It's a show I have hard time recommending to anyone
But I enjoy it

I refuse to watch it around anyone. They know I watch cartoons but Centaurworld is too weird. It's a good show but it could have been a lot better.

What's unusual about this billboard is that despite it marketing season one it includes birdtaurs with one using an egg to tweet (bad joke) and the trashtaurs.

I was lowkey mad when Horse got transmogrified. She was kinda hot.

So many people hated that. Would it have been better if Horse returned to the human world and turned back into her original form? Is it bad to be influenced by both worlds?

I know the guy's a villain and all, but I gotta say it's hella impressive he created the key, invented a device to cleave beings together and apart, became a general, and managed to marry the princess. Damn dude lived an accomplished life. We should have had way more to his story, especially since Horse's pretty much ended when she reunites with Rider in the rift.

Anon is referring to Dominic Bisignano, a writer for both shows. He wrote like half the songs for Centaurworld.

Watched this on a whim while dogsitting/housesitting years ago. Did not expect it to be so good, what a pleasant surprise of a show. Not perfect, way too many fart jokes and Comfortable Doug got pretty tiring at times, but otherwise I really liked the characters and the story. Music was damn good and still enjoy listening to tracks like Battle Round, The Key, Welcome to the Bay etc.

We all agree the Nowhere King was excellently executed in season 1, but did season 2 maintain or bettered the villain? We barely see him until the finale. In "The Ballad of Becky Apples" we see him hack up goop, devour a minotaur to continue his depiction as an abomination, and supervise the creation of super-minotaurs. He barely does anything in the finale outside his mind since he spent most of the battle frozen. He does stomp on some centaurs and spit some ooze, but nothing too devastating. Did his origin story make him a more terrifying villain or did it deflate his threatening presence? Could the Nowhere King's story have been better written or executed?
>>
>>154833229
I remember the few threads the show got during the first weeks of the seasonal premiere. Good times. It's not a show I think about constantly, but it's wormed itself into my mind to the point where one of the songs or Glendale will randomly pop into my head, and I'll listen to the OST again for the day.

>>154853873
I think the NWK stayed very strong throughout. The backstory he gets does make him less terrifying, but it does well in making how abhorrent his human half is and how despicable and cowardly his centaur form was. I said it then, but I really do appreciate the ending he's given and that the Princess is the one to finally do it after so many years of being a coward herself.

I definitely agree the woman was the right person to kill the elktaur. Pisses me off that Luz got to do everything she wanted in The Owl House, including defeating Emperor Belos when Hunter has suffered the most from his reign.

I think the Nowhere King is an s-tier villain, but I feel like everything else suffered to elevate him to the stratosphere, and even then I wonder if the Nowhere King would still remain an s-tier villain with fixes to everything else. The Nowhere King is the best part of the show, but if we were just looking at the first season, the Nowhere King was around the same level as Horse's character development, Horse's relationship with Wammawink, the songs, etc.

Given the position of the lines, he looks like Chestberg, the Centaur (TM) who loses the tulip-stepping match.

I was seriously hoping this was concept art of humanized Ched. If anybody in the herd would be influenced by the human world, it's Ched. He actually needed it too, given how much he was shafted out of character development.

My favorite commentary to come out of Steven Universe is the value of humanity. Rose Quartz was fascinated by humans and always had something deep to say about their nature. I would have loved for Centaurworld to pinpoint the advantages humans had over centaurs. The series wholy favors Centaurworld over the human world. It never tries to paint the human world as a place anybody would want to live. I feel like it does a disservice to the elktaur and our harsh reality.

War-torn human world is bleak because it's in the midst of something of a zombie apocalypse. We saw next to nothing of the human world without a war on its front door. What could make the human world more preferable than Centaurworld to some?

Centaurworld is idyllic. Centaurs dance, sing, and goof off. They don't need to work, they're not worried about food, shelter, or health. The main problem with Centaurworld is its contentedness in their society. They're stagnant. They tend to avoid their problems instead of confronting them. There doesn't appear to be any innovation.

Centaurworld is peace, stagnation, inaction, rest. The opposite of peace is war, change, action, work. Aside from the "war" aspect, I think that's what defines the human world. When there is a problem, humans address it, fix it, do something about it. Humans don't settle; they ask how things can be better.

I think it's humanity's problem-solving that attracted the Elktaur to human culture. The rift was not stable, so he presumably made the key to stabilize it when other centaurs would simply not care.
>>
>>154857927
The human world is brutally honest. While both worlds can be performative, the human world can be dramatic, powerful, and terrifying.
>>
>>154857927
I reject that premise.
Centaurworld was never idyllic or stagnant. The centaurs have suffered their own war and apocalypse prior ot the events of the series, and while NWK might have been held off for a while it's common knowledge he's still out there and a threat. So the centaurs did confront the NWK and fight back, now the survivors need to do it again and have to overcome their fears to do so.
The humans have accepted war as the status quo. There is no attempt that we see from Rider or Horse, at first, to question that this is the only possible state of affairs. If anything the human world has stagnated into a forever war, with humanity directed unquestioningly by the General. Rider and horse are accustomed to following orders, they both have to learn to take initiatives on their own.
>>
>>154858913
The war is not the status quo for either world. Centaurworld, when not under attack, is peaceful. There is no fighting over resources, starvation doesn't seem to exist, and it's completely safe to sleep outside in the grass by the road.

Too bad we didn't really get any human world lore despite it being teased in the birdtaur episode. All we can really do is speculate.

Not having any food as long as wammawinks is out and conflicts with other inhabitants of Centaurworld is literally the theme of S01E05.
>and it's completely safe to sleep outside in the grass by the road.
Have we watched the same show? Several episodes, the earliest being S01E02 has threats from the environment (ie. tordandos) and other inhabitants. See also S01E05 again.

Season 2 had its issues, but good lord the Nowhere King was near perfect there. I don't even mind the slight retcon of him not being nearly as ancient as he was implied to be.

I loved the direction of turning him into a Disney protagonist gone horribly, HORRIBLY wrong.
>>
>>154859479
>Everywhere is peaceful when not under attack.
I wouldn't call Chicago peaceful. Crime is rampant in some places but I wouldn't say they are at war.
>Not having any food as long as wammawinks is out and conflicts with other inhabitants of Centaurworld is literally the theme of S01E05.
No, it was one neckbeard being demonized. If you can summon food from magic, hunger really doesn't exist. The herd was hungry, but they weren't even close to dying or anything.

The herd (except Wammawink) literally sleeps on the side of the rainbow road in S01E04. And tordandos don't sound dangerous, they sound dandy.

While the Nowhere King was excellent, I have so many problems with the tragedy of the Elktaur.
>The timeline is all fucked up. Apparently both the beartaur and Becky Apples were both alive before the creation of the key.
>The elktaur is too interesting of a character to throw away in fifteen minutes. The dude is the only centaur to have been transformed by the human realm.
>Self-loathing is treated as evil instead of a mental struggle.
>The woman was way too upset upon discovering her husband was the elktaur and was abusive towards his elk half. The former is tragic that says more about his self-worth than it does about his deception while the latter is crazy fantasy drama. Shouldn't her focus be on putting him back together?
>The elktaur's problem is clearly internalized racism, but the racism is never addressed. The world didn't learn its lesson meaning another elktaur situation is bound to happen again.
>The woman is depicted as somebody who will call out bullshit to somebody who is blindly in love with the General. How the hell did she fall for him?
>We get to see how the elk became the Nowhere King, but we don't know how the general went from a shrinking violet to the cold, confident leader.
There are fixes for all these problems, but I'm afraid the fixes would detract from the effectiveness of the Nowhere King.

I got some more prodding questions:
>Would the Nowhere King be as threatening if he didn't have bullshit psychic control over the minotaurs? The minotaurs would just operate on how discordant their minds and bodies are.
>What if the Nowhere King's goal was specifically to spite the General?
>How different would it be if the elktaur and woman fell in love first but were forbidden from being together? As in the general would tell the woman he turned himself human but leave out the detail he split himself in half? The elk wouldn't conclude the elktaur could have successfully wooed the woman but he would push to being put back together because the woman was powerful enough to defy cultural norms.
>Would it be a huge casualty for the elktaur to be redeemed in the finale? I get that people love how the woman got closure for her execution of the elktaur (which I do agree with) and people are fed up with redemption stories. Are the fixes elsewhere in the series worth sacrificing the last lullaby scene?
