Does it still hold up?
>>
>>154836060
yes the music is unironically good
>>
>>154836060
>Tweek's character model thrown in the crowd but he doesn't appear in the movie
>They even remembered Cartman's extended family for crowd filler, even the skinny cousin when NuPark could never
>>
>>154836060
Does a movie about rednecks who care more about children swearing than a potential war with Canada still hold up today?

Yes, as a matter of fact.
>>
It's a fun time capsule of the show in 1999.
>>
>>154836104
I think this really sums up most south park seasons as a whole.

I will say Matt and Trey's story telling abilities got better over the years and it's fun watch how they evolved over time.

Fuck I should really rewatch the entire series after I finish rewatching family guy
>>
>>154836060
A few dated jokes kinda drag it down a little, but the music is great, the comedy is great and the concept of "Mob refuses to back down from their stupid fucking plan, regardless of how its not making anything better and making everything much worse, because America was built on the concept of "Never back down, never surrender and NEVER admit a mistake" Because that thinking is how we won almost half the wars we fought." still rings true today.
>>
>>154836060
Yes, you just have to remember that the movie was made in 1999 so a handful of references feel outdated. Otherwise it's still funny as shit and the musical sequences are shockingly good.
>>
>>154836060
Yes, the music is still great. There's a few cringe jokes with 90's humour and Butters and Randy weren't actual characters by that point in time so they don't do anything but it's still a good movie
>>
>>154836206
Randy was an actual character back then and even spoke in the movie. He was a straightman father and one of the more normal guys in town.
>>
>>154836060

i can't believe the movie theater allowed me and my friends see this when we were 10-11 years old

>>
>>154836060
Yeah, it's honestly great on all fronts, definitely in the top tier of TV show movies
>>
>>154836060
It's before Matt and Trey sold out. It's good.
>>154836206
Kenny would be a non entity if they made the movie today.

>>154836060
I wonder how many drafts the script went through, there's an official eighth draft online and honestly, it's a rough read. Scenes drag on and the songs are nowhere near as well written as the final product. For example, the whole rehab scene with Mr Mackey lasts multiple scenes in this version and has a mild subplot of cartman having cheesy poof withdrawal

There probably was some influence from that episode since it centered about him with Terrance and Phillip
>>
>>154841399
I know it's simply because of the time period it released in but I love the fact that the movie was mastered on film despite being 100 percent computer animated. The film master is the only one that's available to watch I think. Usually for situations like that they'd make a fully digital one but they may not have the files
>>
What's dated other than the Windows 98 joke?

>>154841631
Hell, you could dub that joke with the current windows version and it'd still work
The anne murray joke in Blame Canada could be another dated one. Trey replaced her with Ryan Reynolds in the 25th anniversary concert
>>
>>154841399
It's a shame how much they started to try to make the show look "better". People will call you a nostalgiafag for saying this but the newer, heavily detailed background illustrations really made the show lose a lot of its visual identity

But seriously, if I had to guess it was probably to justify the rising budget. Back then it only cost like 200k to make an episode whereas now it's well over a million

Do people seriously argue it's a nostalgiafag thing? The bottom is technically the worst despite being artistically better by being so visually clashing with the character art style and going against the show's identity. Yes, some shows do take advantage of clashing art styles and make it work, but South Park was always about its goofy construction art style with some gags like a lot of early celebrities having their real faces copy and pasted on the character models.
>>
>>154841631
Pretty much every celebrity reference, plus Shiela doing the Nixon pose and all the foreigners in the mom's a bitch song (immediately canceled today I'm sure). Maybe the mole's accent because you can't have funny foreign caricatures today. There's a guy in the black squadron that says "yousa think people gonna die?" when the war is about to start.

I know your type. You think you're bad when your just a dumb slut.
Nasty slut

>>
>>154842172
The Mole might be better received today. French people are one of the few groups everyone is allowed to make fun of. Actually, by having the setting be a redneck mountain town where most of the cast is white stereotypes with the most common minorities being the moralfag jewish family and the levelheaded yet horny black guy, early South Park is less offensive to normalfags than its contemporaries like The Simpsons despite being a more mature show. The only characters I could see causing some kind of stir these days are maybe Starvin' Marvin and Mr. Garrison who are canceled out by Chef and Big Gay Al being positive representation.
>>
>>154842172
>>154842395
You guys are acting like South Park hasn't already been getting attacked by the bored housewives brigade and other annoying moralfags throughout its entire run. That's even the entire premise of the movie.
Didn't stop them back then and I highly doubt they'd do anything different today
>>
>>154836060
Well it's not load bearing, but considering it's a musical i'd say it's pretty fucking gay.
>>
>>154838289
The signs of deleted/changed scenes there were in the trailer and promo material suggest probably another draft or two that's between 8 and the final product, material-wise.
We'll likely never see them though as Tratt consider them not "deleted" but alternate, redundant material and they may be long gone.
>>
>>154836060
watched it recently and found it juvenile, sorry lads
>>
>>154842732
That's stupid. Besides preserving how the film got made, the deleted scenes gave characters that didn't speak in the final movie some lines like Barbrady.
>>
>>154841956
Yeah, some particular SPS BBS guys would argue with people who didn't like the newer style and claim they were just out to shit on Matt and Trey.
>>
>>154842778
Big Will had some old interview with editors that worked on the movie claiming there were about 2 or 3 drives of the unused assets and scenes, that they had to change a lot through production.
Then years later, Tratt themselves claimed there'd never be a director's cut or extended edition as there were no deleted scenes, just ones with different settings or characters involved.

They're basically all great, I don't really dislike any of them. Don't really care for eyes of a child, although I like the joke that it's some gay overly emotional song in the credits that wasn't in the movie itself, which I think was a parody of the lion king's credits.

I actually watched it again just recently, and it really does. It's hilarious. I don't think there's an unfunny joke in the whole thing, and the songs are all bangers.

I will say though, and this isn't a bad thing about the movie, but having gotten used to modern day South Park over the last so many years, it's weird seeing Cartman just being a normal member of the core group. Yeah, he's the loudmouth asshole friend, but he's very clearly one of the good guys. If this was modern day South Park, Cartman would probably be the main villain (aside from Satan and Saddam) instead of Sheila, or at the very least, the boys would probably try to direct his evilness in a way that'd be helpful (like when they tried and failed to let him loose on PC Principal in his first episode).

Also, you can tell how early it is in the show's history because you see Butters, Token, Craig, Bebe, and Red, but they have no lines, Pip has no lines despite being well established at this point, Clyde was still just "that one random kid that has lines sometimes" (in fact, any time a kid who isn't the main four, Wendy, Gregory, or the Mole speaks in this movie, it's always Clyde), and Tweek is nowhere to be seen (as are, obviously, Jimmy and Timmy). It's kinda weird seeing such major characters in their early days before they became important, or before they even existed.
>>
>>154846901
The fact the showrunners of the most recent seasons failed to understand that half of what makes the show funny is the cheap animation saddens me. How could anyone be that stupid or out of touch?

All the 90s Disney movies (at least all the big ones) had pop cover versions of one of the songs playing during the end credits. "Beauty and the Beast," "A Whole New World," "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," "Colors of the Wind," etc.
>>
>>154841399
>>154841666
I've noticed that the show's style changed even further in the past few years (since the specials at least), like for the previous 20 years the backgrounds and background objects had this realistic, traced-over outline-less look while the newer episodes frequently have flatter shaded background objects with visible outlines. Perhaps new people in charge of the animation or something

Pip couldn't be General Disarray because being bad and vengeful just isn't in his nature, but I still wish they could have kept them as friends in some way. Just keeping him in a nerdy group with Butters and Dougie when they aren't playing villain would have been fun. The one thing Modern South Park could do to get my attention again in the midst of all the nostalgia pandering is try to reintegrate Pip in some way at least for a few episodes. There are even ways to make it topical with how bad Britain is getting right now with the Digital ID insanity. Do something like having the British do a seance to turn Pip's ghost into the ultimate Digital ID that follows people around and invades their privacy under the belief he is protecting them and tries to be their friends during it only to receive the same harsh treatment he got while alive including from Butters who has become a much different person than when Pip last saw him.

The French thing was a joke and something he actually did. I agree that Pip's unwillingness to be bad except under extremely specific circumstances is important to his character. Some of the things they did in it decanonize it like trying to retcon Terrance Mephesto as dead in Mecha-Streisand which goes against both what we have seen in the show up to that point and all material following it. He was made a playable character right after in Phone Destroyer.

Matt and Trey lost the plot when they started pumping out the specials and reducing the regular season eps to 6 per season.,
>>
>>154854640
No he didn't.
>>
>>154854664
Well, Scott is basically classic Butters anyway. Figured they'd get along

I'm asking if we should count General Disarray retiring as canon when Fractured But Whole kind of exists in its own canon.
>>
>>154854832
I guess non-canon, then. The show never referenced the games, after all
>>
>>154854886
The show has had episodes that serve as fun sort of prologue content to the games, but the events of the games after are never brought up.

I hate to be the "ackchyually" guy, but it's because the film grain gives it that authentic construction paper look. Every piece of SP media post-Anal Probe was animated digitally, it's just that the movie didn't get digitally rendered for whatever reason.

I wish they were, though
>>
>>154855374
I mean it'd be fun fanservice but really there's weirder shit that has happened in the show that doesn't get brought up like the Peruvian Flute Band Giant Guinea Pig War

Well, we need another game

Because Tara Strong was a better voice actress than her.

Screw you guys. I'm going to rewatch it.

I think it holds up very well. The music is fun, it feels like a longer episode, and the trash talking preformatory activism will never stop being relevant.

I like how there's a vague video game side continuity, like how in the Fortnite trailer they use the Stick of Truth.

La Resistance mogs all the ones you mentioned
>>
To this day it annoys me that Stan's Song, Going To Hell, and La Resistance (Mole's Reprise) aren't on the soundtrack. They're not even my favorites, but what good is an official movie soundtrack if it's incomplete?
>>
>>154854664
Maybe it's a whole parallel universe

The HD episodes retconned Scott's character model into the background in "The Jeffersons", but they do silly things like that and you can tell when the later models don't match with the earlier assets.

She had agoraphobia too, according to her husband. I guess she couldn't handle the popularity in a short span.

There's a redone soundtrack, score and all. You can find it on YouTube. Playlist should have 60 tracks
>>
>>154859067
Holy shit, anon, thank you. I'd seen that before but always passed over it because I figured at best it was the usual 'Hell Isn't Good ripped off of the DVD so it has sound effects' type of "complete soundtrack." This is awesome.

she wanted to be with both of them and knew about them being gay for each other.
when she threatened to expose them they decided she needed to die by "suicide"

PowerAnimator was the way to go. Once they switched to Maya, they just kept trying to elevate things.

Imagine a timeline where South Park's gimmick, aside from the construction paper cutout aesthetic, was the fact that it was actual children saying all this crazy shit:
