Are you excited for all the characters that will enter the public domain soon? What is your favorite piece of media that took advantage of the public domain? Have you used anything for your comics and cartoons? I hope people make good stories with Superman when he becomes available.
>>154843157Actually surprised King Kong isn't already in public domain.
>>154843185He is technically in the public domain thanks to the novel based on the movie. The only problem left is calling him King Kong. We can only call him Kong until the movie enters the public domain.

>>154843157Cringe illiterate image
>>154843222Not too much, It's just a bit hard to read, is all.
>>154843157The original cards for Mars Attacks is in the public domain.
The world is gonna end before any of the ones in the future are gonna be public domain. There are bigger things to worry about than copyright.
>>154843157
>>154843157Public domain of long running properties like Batman is gonna be hell because a lot of the recognizable stuff was introduced later, and with so many iterations the owners might try to argue you're copying later works if there is any slight resemblance.
How does them being public domain actually benefit us? Unless some multimillion dollar company chooses to invest into some project featuring them, all we will get is literal slop like those shitty horror movies
>>154843409>How does them being public domain actually benefit us?You don't get sued for being a fan of a beloved character lacking decent stories under corpos.
>>154843409>Unless some multimillion dollar company chooses to invest into some project featuring themYou can make a comic with them on the internet.

>>154843157Don't care. I've created my own. Piggybacking off existing characters is for socialists.

>>154843750Trademarks prevent you from obviously advertising a thing in your title or marketing.>All you are allowed to do is make horror parodies of the properties. Not true. Horror is just a cheap genre anyone can do for a quick buck.

James Bond when?
>>154844553>James Bond will become public domain on January 1, 2035 in the UK, Europe, and countries that use a "life plus 70 years" copyright rule, based on author Ian Fleming's death in 1964. In the United States, the earliest books like Casino Royale will enter the public domain starting in 2049 based on publication-based copyright terms. (In countries with a "life plus 50 years" rule like Canada, the books entered the public domain in 2015)

>>154846591What's wrong with it? Its better than the Japanese opening whose song is boring.
>>154846561So that's your excuse why you can't stop posting in this thread, huh, redditor
If public domain shit is so good, how come no one ever does jackshit with anything public domain? Why would anyone care about a story about gandalf, bilbo and gollum outside what tolkien made?
>>154846647Most people don't even know the public domain exists.
>>154846647You've got it backwards. If there's no threat to the originals from an adaptation, why have copyright that's so incredibly strict? Also, people do shit with the public domain all the time, it's just grown stale because its contents have been stagnant for your entire life. Sherlock Holmes, Shakespeare, the greek gods, Moby Dick... These things don't register to you as "public domain" because they're part of the cultural tapestry.
bosko horror movie when
>>154843157If Winnie Poo and Mickey taught me anything is that only slop comes from a character becomic Public Domain. Van't wait for the analog horror Babar movie.
>>154843334I like how outdated this one is, once it was free, the public domain slowy but steadily began to eat a lot of copyrights.Under a few months, we will get the shadow.
>>154843409The stories get easily accessible, you can read and watch classic literature and movies for free without the need of piracy. The 3 stooges will be available over YouTube by now.

>>154850805If you want to bump the thread try something else.
>>154848456Jokes on you, a political thriller/horror movie starring a talking elephant would be amazing.
>>154843157Are there any public domain properties that you dislike because they get spammed too much? For me...Christmas CarolAlice in WonderlandThe first one annoys me because the story is nonsense. An old man who spent MOST of his existence being a greedy mean sociopath can save his soul by becoming good only at the tail end of his life when he's about to drop dead already? BULLSHIT as it doesn't excuse his awful nature. And I really don't especially like the character of Cratchit because he knows he's poor and Scrooge doesn't pay him well, so he decides to have lots of sex impregnating his wife six times to have a large family that he can't afford? This bastard is retarded. If the writing was any good he and his family would starve to death. Having a large family that you can't afford because you're sexually irresponsible? Fuck you. Christmas Carol is overrated garbage. As for Alice in Wonderland? The whole story is aimless worthless filler fluff with nothing interesting going on and worse its a dream.Tired of seeing these two stories always being regurgitated and whored out.
>>154851775Did you miss the plot of a Christmas Carol? The point is that Scrooge wasn't always a heartless guy. We see him become that guy slowly over the course of the story and some of the key events that made him that way. Learning hell is real and your business partner is currently being tortured and you will join him if you don't change your ways is a pretty good reason to change.
