I have my doubts about this though as Jodorowsky was fluently multillingual, he likely would've had a lot of pull in translating. I think the more likely answer is he had a fucked up sense of humor, and wanted to make it a part of his story. "Oh Paleo-christ an entire city block of 100 million people just died, Boohoo, now I want some more Cocaloco". He thinks the funniest things ever are government tyranny, stimulants, apathy, and potty jokes. I mean come on, the lead TV star in the Jodoverse is called "Diavoloo", which is just blatantly "Satan-Toilet". It's fine not to be a fan of something so crass, I'm usually not either. But I wouldn't dare call his comics hacky. The Incal's opening compostion of Difool being inverted in a rectangular frame, mirroring an inverted fool tarot card symbolizing a fool's journey was genius. And the ending to the first Incal was anything but Hacky, it was incredible. The Incal is a smart story about a stupid man in a stupid galaxy of stupid people and stupid government where Jon has a very serious not-stupid task at hand. It's the Idiocracy of Science Fiction.

Avoid reading anything by Jodorowsky, just look at the cool artists he manages to get for his scripts. He's the equivalent of Jeph Loeb for people who say "le roman graphique" instead of "comic book". Both thoroughly mediocre writers coasting on their artists massive talent.
