I get it, the movie was crap and boring. But still...before it, Green Lantern was going strong, roaring even under Johns. Fuck, Hal was basically in the Trinity instead if Wonder Woman...After 2011 he was midcarded strongly...like wtf?
>>154848258>Hiw
>>154848277Yeah yeah i was typing with one hand as i was taking a piss and didnt double check before hitting "post", bite me.
>>154848258There is an extended version of this movie, and because I bought a used Blu-ray disc I cannot watch this movie at all.
>>154848332Disc rot?
Cause he had no real normie tier mainstream visibility besides it. For example Hulk had two failed movies but he could keep trucking because he was well known outside of those movies
>>154848258I feel Reynolds bitching did more damage then the movie it's self.
>>154848967Did he bitched much after the movie bombed? I dont remember...
>>154849118The first Deadpool movie he makes a quip about the suit not being "green...and animated".In Deadpool 2, Deadpool goes back in time and shoots Ryan Reynolds in the head to stop him from starring in Green Lantern.
>>154848401Neither did Suicide Squad but they kept giving them chances.
>>154848401The more well known characters had things like tv shows in the 70s and cartoons in the 90s. GL never really had any media momentum at all.
>>154849398Suicide Squad sis have Harley and Croc, both had been fairly known Batman villains for a while.
The MCU was a steamroller in 2010-2018, any superhero property not properly prestablished was blown away. Green Lantern was just mediocre but not really worse than the average MCU movie. The hype train just really seemed geared to making normies hate anything that wasn't Marvel.
>>154849231I mean besides snarky comments in a comedy movie. Was he moanin about GL in interviews or something?
>>154849398The first one sold well. People forget that part.
>>154848401Before the the JLU cartoon, he was a massive joke. Like he was so bad that even aquaman was more well liked then him. Then JLU came out and he became somewhat cool to the normies if not a household name. After the GL movie...then terrible cartoon. It was over. GL as a property failed miserably. They tried to sell it as hip cool comic book and superhero thing when they never actually sold hal jordan or the concept to normies. It was not very good. The one time reynolds should have gone jokey with his role and he decides to play it straight.
>>154848258It is crazy how it completely killed the momentum of the character Perhaps it was because, in the broader public, GL had no reputation to fall back on.When Catwoman was a complete disaster, the general public still remembered Catwoman well from the 60s Batman show and the various popular Batman movies made since then. When Hulk bombed twice, the public still remembered and liked Hulk for being easily the fifth most iconic superhero behind the standard Mt. Rushmore of Spider-Man + DC's trinity.Green Lantern, as a movie, did what the Super Friends cartoon did to Aquaman.Aquaman, back in the 60s, was easily the fourth most popular DC hero, well ahead of the Flash and Green Lantern. But that show made him look dumb. And he's been between 6th and 7th place ever since.
>>154849398The first Suicide Squad made a lot of money, and turned Harley Quinn into a merchandizing giant and pop culture icon.If Harley hadn't been in the first Suicide Squad movie, the name would have been completely relegated to history This being said, I think Suicide Squad is completely dead now. After a follow-up film which bombed, and the complete failure of the video game, and the decline of Harley Quinn as a major pillar of DC's merchandizing, that franchise is dead again.
>>154851578>terrible cartoon???Green Lantern TAS was very good. It was cancelled because the terrible live-action movie poisoned the brand (no toyline was made to fund a second season).>>154851676>follow-up film which bombedSo did every movie released during Covid.
>>154851676>and the decline of Harley Quinn as a major pillar of DC's merchandizing,About fucking time. Now just kill her ass off and we're golden.
>>154848258Toy sales scared the toy company, marketing, and WB. DC had Johns turn him into a superstar in the comics.>>154848277>couod
Ironically, you can blame Geoff Johns for this. The director complained about WB execs interfering with the movie, and people like Johns being brought in to mess with the movie.
>>154851945>So did every movie released during Covid.Again with that excuse? Gunn's TSS bombed more than any other movie being released during that month.
>>154852025I'm sure it was problem, but I also think Martin Campbell (The Mask of Zorro, GoldenEye) didn't have the sensibilities for Green Lantern.I remember him also talking about how stupid "being fearless" is as a qualification to become a Green Lantern. So he changed it to "the ability to overcome fear".
>>154851676>and turned Harley Quinn into a merchandizing giant and pop culture icon. The Arkham games did that.
>>154852078Shang Chi bombed harder
>>154852641No, it didn't. TSS was a record making flop.
>>154852472Neither seems like a bad thing. Zorro and Goldeneye were both great reintroductions of classic characters without compromising their classic sensibilities and acknowledging that they Hal needed that, Reynolds was too much of a modern snarky guy and not enough of a hot shot showoff pilot type. Overcoming fear seems fine too. If you're setting up an enemy who controls fear and is powered by it, having Hal experience fear raises the stakes, while overcoming it means he can still come off as a hero. the Johns era was good but the movie felt to much like it was trying to copy it superficially. It ended up feeling very cartoony in some ways, and not in a charming way but like stilted, fake acting.
>>154852829What we needed was a Tom Cruise playing Maverick with a power ring?
>>154848258Can someone explain why they had to blow the whole budget on a CGI costume when they could’ve just made a practical one with CGI enhancements like literally every other super hero movie?
>>154852798The biggest box office flop of 2021 was Chaos Walking, alongside high-profile financial losses like West Side Story and The Suicide Squad.
>>154848258Hal has always been mid.
>>154848258I miss when color grading was more orangeish. Movies just looked brighter and more fun. Modern movies go more towards Grey's and boues now. Just doesnt pop as much. Like OP the Green on this shit really pops because they skewed the colors around it warmer so the cooler colors end up popping.
