What did you think of Simpsons season 1? It had some weird episodes like Homer almost committing suicide and another with Marge almost cheating on Homer. Not sure what they were thinking. It's pretty uncomfortable with watch with a family.
I dunno man I've been yoyoing a turd for the last few hours because I'm too lazy to take a dump I'm not sure I have an opinion on this right now. Getting those really bad "I gotta shit" farts too.
>>154848952>Not sure what they were thinking. It's pretty uncomfortable with watch with a family. The Simpsons was conceived as a show that mocked and parodied the popular family sitcoms, such as The Waltons and Leave It to Beaver. Instead of portraying the traditional, responsible father as a handsome, dependable man, the show made him a fat, poorly drawn, violent drunk who strangled his own son. Bart and Lisa were portrayed as irresponsible little terrors. Groening came from the underground comix scene, whose entire ethos was to mock and subvert traditional American values and identity. As the show went on however and the Simpsons because an aspect of American Identity, that subversive aspect was gradually lost.
>>154849066most of the other episodes, including the pilot Christmas episode were pretty wholesome though
When it locks in, I like it. Playing it up more as a satire of American families than a show about cartoon antics is something they could have doubled down on. Homer as a put-upon father who tries his hardest is something they could have doubled down on.They took the path of making the show as funny as possible, as they moved forward, and that's fine, but the path not-trod could have been interesting too.
>>154849078Subversiveness need not necessarily be crude, edgy or even unwholesome. The Last Unicorn and The Princess Bride are also subversive versions of Western fairy tales (at least the book versions).
Lisa is a bitch
>>154849078Homer gambling the Christmas money on dog races is not wholesome
>>154849730he only did that since it was like $15 bucks, no christmas bonus, and he needed 10x that to get presents. He ended up gifting them the dog in the end.
