The whole appeal to Doom is how, despite his lack of powers, his utter strenght of will is what allows him to reach such heights. He's a renassaince man, not a multiversal god.
That, and stuff like his disfigurement being caused by Steve, and probably taking away some of the campiness like him speaking in third person, will make this version as lackluster an adaptation as the previous ones.
