Should there be some kind of citizenship test on characters and continuity before being allowed to write or edit at Marvel or DC?
That needed to be in place forty years ago. At this point I just treat everything as an Elseworlds. If it's good cool, but it's never going to be canon.
>>154849963needed to happen ages ago>>154850019fpbp
>>154849963how would you do that
>>154850628Tell potential hires that they must have a working knowledge of historical canon and have a test they have to take in order to be hired.
>>154851305This would disqualify a good portion of people currently working here. Which shows it's a great idea.
>>154851584Yes. There are so many people who are doing it because the movies and such are popular. We need the people who actually know what's up and want to do it not because it's popular and know things about the medium before the movies became popular and open the floodgates to frauds who brag about being a nerd to get clout.
>>154850628First, get somebody serious about fixing the company.
>>154852102I feel like that can only happen accidentally. The people in charge now don't want that.
>>154849963Those are jobs and their goal is to make money, not art
>>154853066They'd make more money, if they hire people who knew their shit.
>>154849963For the editors, probably.
>>154849963If anything I think a superhero should be retired after say 30 years, at which point they aren't to be in leading roles for issue comics.
>>154853416But they hire people to be friends, not sell comics.
>>154849963you are everything wrong with current comic book "fandom "
>>154849963Get rid of superheroes. Force creators to make original works.
>>154849963Most of the time writers and editors are expected to know about who they're writing. But I remember Nocenti talking about her Catwoman run saying that she left the research up to her editor. And that was a disaster.
this is retarded for at least two reasons. One someone could read a ton of comica and be an actual knower and not know of tons of lore at either marvel or dc. they could only read certain characters/events or eras and thus know a lot about one thing but nothing about another so some catch all literal test is stupid. Second a nigga can literally know lore from looking it up and never actually reading a single comic. Someone could be an expert on [insert marvel or dc thing here] and all their knowledge came from watching youtuber explained videos and not actually reading comics
