I always thought he looked a lot like Scrooge, with his grown out sideburns and round specs. I wonder if its intentional.

Wasn't there are rumor that Carl Barks didn't like that Rosa was doing sequels to his classic stories? I swear I remember reading that somewhere.
>>
>>154851419
I dont know if Barks ever commented on it. I remember during a livestream Q&A a few years ago Rosa said something to the effect of "Maybe Barks didn't like my Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck story and thats why they had his signature taken out of XY publication".
So I don't think even Rosa knows Barks thoughts on LoS
>>
>>154851419
>>154852086
I read a rumor that he gave his final storyboards to some other artist than Rosa to draw since Rosa was "too detailed and too serious" for his taste.
This is merely an old rumor from European Duck sites so you shouldn't believe it too much, BUT Barks stories ARE usually more relaxed and less sentimental than Rosa ones (Rosa is a genius but he has different style than Barks).
Also I had a dream about 15 years ago where I had sex with Magica De Spell.

Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck

Ducktales was a name created by Disney in 1987 because they didn't think kids would watch a show called "Uncle Scrooge"
>>
>>154850523
Ducktales was a major improvement of Barks's story
>>
>>154852403
I'm still pissed they reduced Donald to a bit-part because they feared he'd steal the show. I didn't care for Scrooge or the nephews, I wanted to see my hero.

Not rumours, Barks can be quoted as disliking Rosa's sequels.
Barks himself, during an
>This is to clear up possible confusion in the German media.
>I stated that I don't like my work rewritten or see a reason for it. This includes sequels and the recent history of Scrooge
The recent history of Scrooge is Life and Times.
>This does not imply that I feel that Don Rosas' version of my characters should not be printed.
>On the contrary, if they sell, more should be printed. The point I made was that I don't care for that "style".
>As stated, I prefer works of artists such as Daan Jippes and William Van Horn who have a look and style on model, on character and in the Disney tradition.
>Although Rosas' work is not my personal preference, I defend the right for it to be printed.
>>154853383
It was his own chosen successor Van Horn, and also Daan Jippes.

More Barks:
>Carl Barks: Yes, I chose Bill Van Horn who lives in Vancouver to do the artwork. His drawing style is very Disney like. It looked quite a bit like my own drawing and his way of staging things is close to mine. I just wrote out the script with a typewriter and had been trying to sketch it out and he got the feeling of what I was thinking of. He would read that little blurb and come up with a sketch just like I thought it in my head.
>Sébastien Durand: When you receive his drawings, can you resist correcting a few things ?
>CB: I had very few things to correct. He and I went over his pencil drawings quite thoroughly. I went over the whole way though once before I even got to thinking: "Well I have got to correct some things. " So I went back and looked at two or three small situations that required a tiny bit of changing. It could have gone through and make a successful story without my correcting at all. He was that good at interpreting what I wanted.
>SD: Who are the Disney artists today that you would consider as having the same feelings as you had for the characters? Van Horn is one of them, of course, but who are the others ?
>Carl Barks: Those guys in Italy and a number of people working for Egmont. They are marvelous artists. They are doing much better drawings of the ducks and other Disney characters than I was able to do. Daan Jippes for example has been very good doing Disney style for many years. Vicar who comes from Chile is excellent and there are a number of them up there in the Nordic countries and down in Spain. Those guys are superb artists.

Jesus. He pretty much says he likes all the other artists expect Don Rose.
It would be interesting hear what is it about Rosas "style" he doesn't like.

Everyone is focusing on the ducktales connection, but what bothers me is:
>the world’s best selling comics outside of the USA
What the fuck is he talking about and when was this true? What about asterix and tintin in Europe? What about Dragon Ball or One Piece in Japan (manga are just jap comics)?
For collected comic magazines there’s no way it outsold shonen jump in Japan or the beano in Britain.
What fucking cope is he trying to pull?

Damn, being as much of a Barks fanboy as Rosa is, reading this must have killed him. Add the way Disney treated and continues to treat him, and it's no wonder he seems so bitter a lot of the time.
>>

I don't know how well it matches up in general, but this is just Germany:
>"For the past 30 years the fun and entertaining Donald Duck Pocket Books have been one of the absolute favorites for German pocket book readers. With the latest edition no. 273 of the Donald Duck Pocket Book sales have reached 200 million copies in Germany." (From the Egmont web site, 2001)
>>
>>154853665
His funniest hangup is how flustered he gets when someone commits the sin of referring to Scrooge as a duck:
>"In the German version, Buffalo Bill, looking down at him, asks "Scrooge! You're moulting?"." I do not blame this on the German translator since the official script he was given was already changed. You'll see that even in the first American printing (to my horror). This is an appalling example of someone inserting their own sense of humor into my work.
>I do NOT consider Scrooge McDuck a duck, He does not have feathers. It doesn't matter if you thought this was funny. I do not change the realities of what I believe just for a laugh.
>As I've often said, if the Ducks were in some life-or-death situation where they needed a FEATHER to survive, they could NOT pluck one off their tail because people do not have feathers. If some Duckfans think these are "funny animals", that's their business. But when they are reading my stories, they must accept that I regard them as humans, or they are misunderstanding my work.

Don Rosa insisting that the Ducks aren't ducks will never not be funny to me
