It was supposed to be a joke.
>>
>>154858982
What's worse is that it implies that only Ryan Reynolds gets to determine when Blade can be in movies
>>
>>154858982
Deadpool didn't take him seriously, therefore the curse activated

He looked at us the audience, like "look at this guy, he doesn't know fruge is fasttracking the new blade", only to be proven wrong in 2026

Its a 4th wall joke with 5th wall ironic execution, a grant Morrison kinda jab

I just wish we got more blade shit man
>>
So why was "cool black guy with sword fights vampires" so difficult for the MCU to adapt?
>>
>>154858982
no one who likes blade wants another blade movie.
if snipes is in it and his hes mentoring his son or something i can imagine people wanting to see it but that bald ass nigga marvel thinks is gonna be the next "blade" is mental
>>
>>154858982
>A single line in a Deadpool movie scared suits into not making another Movie

Funny but at the same time I get it; there can only be one Wesley Snipes.
>>
>>154858993
Unironically based on the stories of the scripts it actually seems like a "We Can't, We Don't Know How To Do It" situation, it was actually impossible to just have a cool black guy doing things with the way modern Hollywood operates.
>>
Joke still works. It just becomes a meta “lol Feige tried to make another blade”
>>
>>154859024
>tried
TRIED, being the main word there.
>>
>>154858982
I thought the joke was that he was right and Deadpool couldn't believe how long it was taking to make a new Blade
>>
>>154858993
Because they did it the best 25 years ago. The issue is finding a way to do that without people saying it was totally redundant.
>>
>>154858988
Ryan Reynolds is on the right side of history. So he can do whatever the fuck he wants. He is also not in the Epstein or Diddy philes.
>>
>>154858993
The MCU is built on making a joke out of characters and situations from the comics. Blade is as straightforward a character as it gets: He's a black guy in a leather trenchcoat that kills vampires with a swords. There's no joke there, there's no way to make that lame or undercut it. From what we were hearing about the rejected scripts, the plan was to remove Blade from the equation, like having the film star his grandma in a flashback, or just kill him off and have the film actually be about his daughter.
>>
For the record Wesley Snipes is perfectly willing to be in another blade movie they just won't do it for some reason
>>
>>154858993
Because all the scripts were either written to be in 1920’s Paris for some reason, or focused on his teenage daughter because male characters can’t be the hero any more
>>
>>154859190
People would get mad they sideline him and Disney can’t cry racism as a defense in that case.
>>
>>154858982
This line is ever referenced in Rivals.
>>
>>154858993
its multi tiered. one is that blade as hes existed for the last 20 plus years is all due to the movies influence. blade as he is now is wes' child. an outsider has such an influence on the character that hes almost been retconned into someone else.

another issue is how marvel does things. the mcu likes ensemble casts, and unfortunately for blade, most of his allies are kinda serious buzzkills. then theres the fact that most of the characters that he would be interacting with are big enough to hold their own, or better suited for other established characters(strange and moon knight have some pull here, not to mention the future ghost rider) and im sure they dont want to open the hannibal king door again so the idea is for blade to push new hunters, but yiu cant have them do nothing or be seen as weak, so they have to somehow be as competent as blade, but if you have a team as competent as blade in his first outing, then theres nothing for him to do, and you are no longer watching a blade movie. then theres the black thing, but im not gonna go into that because theres too many snowflakes that will get their fee fees hurt if you mention the R word
>>
>>154858993
Because they'll add muh racism and BLM themes
>>
Just do a Midnight Sons film and have Wesley as Blade again.
Will make millions.
>>
>>154859369
Where were you when you remember ghost rider is already part of the MCU and was in the antagonist of season 4 of that agents of shield show
>>
>>154859158
Sincerity is cringe.
>>
>>154859095
>redundant
Batman has been redundant for 30 years
Spiderman has been redundant for 25 years
>>
>>154858993
The lost art of keeping a simple plot simple and giving people what they bought the popcorn for.
Surf Dracula is always relevant. There's plenty to showoff a film makers skill in a Blade movie, but they get lost in the excuse plot.
>>
>>154859324
Putting 'Blade does whatever the writer wants' aside, wasn't blade born in, like, 1900 or something? I'd imagine he wouldn't view modern 'racism' as actual racism considering he lived through much harsher times.
A bit like MLK in Boondocks.
>>
>>154860176
He was born in the 30's
>>
>>154858982
This movie becomes a lot less funny when you realize Marvel took all the jokes in it deadly seriously and will commit to them for future MCU films.
>til you're 90!
Stops being funny when you realize they are actually gonna do that.
>>
>>154859435
Soon he'll be completely memoryholed by the movie version, where everything in that garbage show belongs.
>>
>>154858993
Wasn't the original R rated?
>>
>>154858993
They wanted to make it a soapbox race issues movie with Blade's lesbian daughter OC that no one likes or even knows exists taking center stage. They couldn't help overthinking such a simple straightforward idea just like everything else in the MCU.

>>154858982
Joke never worked for me since I actually watched the TV series that continues where the movies left off.
>>
>>154859193
I think they want to do period peice shit so they can just shoot the fucking thing on a series of sound stages.
>>

>>154858993
It was unironically because they could not find a single black person with a lack of uppity. None of them can follow a simple fucking script or do what they're paid to do, even if it means dodging taxes and forcing the studio to cgi your tantrums on camera.
>>
>>154858993
To be fair, it was also pretty hard for whoever else to do it two out of the three times they tried. They got farther, I guess, but it'd almost be better if that hadn't.
>>
>>154858982
>literally no capeshit movie has ever topped the first Blade movie
Deadpool is for fags
>>
>>154862085
That movie was an embarrassing mess from the get go. It's little wonder Snipes was pissed.
>>
>>154858988
Does Wesley still hate Reynolds?
>>
>>154858993
"toxic masculinity"
>>
>>154858993
The MCU got too grand for its own good causing something simple like Blade to be impossible. If they made a new Blade movie it's gonna be like 150 minutes half of which is setting up some bullshit no one cares about which goes against everything that made Blade work.
>>
>>154858993
they suck at action scenes
>>
>>154862230
Obviously not enough to never be in another movie with him again.
>>
>>154858988
Ryan Reynolds would be now more successful leading Marvel now than Feige.
>>
>>154859141
He knows what comic book fans seem to watch on a movie. Disney alone seems to not yet get it.
>>
>>154860071
>art of keeping a simple plot simple
And how would you do this with Blade?
Just have him show up and kill vampires for 2 hours?
>>
>>154858993
Who knows, one of its scripts became another movie
>>
>>154865147
He didn't with Green Lantern
>>
>>154859095
>>154859289
So why not just make Blade 4 with Wesley Snipes?
>>
>>154858993
The kind of mentality that went into making “cool black guy” movies (of which Blade is peak) was overthrown by woke
>>
>>154865192
Yes, just sprinkle a mutant vampire or harder to kill boss vampire every half an hour to keep the pace.

It's not that hard, fuck it even the old doom movie got something right with it's FPS sequence and pinky fight, just a bunch of cool set pieces back to back.
>>
>>154865280
Reynolds did not write, direct, nor produce the Green Lantern movie.
>>
>>154865433
Because then they might still do that but now with Wesley Snipes.
>>
>>154861047
They really wanted to make the anchors meta joke to be an actual plotpoint for Kang lmao
>>
>>154862044
Yeah, there was Sticky Fingaz.
>>
>>154858982
It still aged well. Now the joke is inverted
>>
>>154858993
Mahershala wanted to it to be about a race conscious black nationalist Blade while Marvel DESPERATELY wanted it to be about Blade passing the torch to his daughter for some reason, they both couldn't help but go beyond just "cool guy kills vampires" and the latter really wanted to take a particularly big shit on the character
>>
>>154858993
because they're a bunch of faggots
>>
>>154859141
>>154865147
Wasn't DP2 kinda shit?
>>
>>154859158
weren't his comic before Wesley films shit?
>>
>>154858993
little to no room for shitty quips
>>
remember that time /co/ sent letters to snipes when he was in jail?
>>
>>154859435
Agents of Shield isn't canon to the MCU
>>
>>154858993
They wanted to add the girlboss tax to Blade by making it about his daughter instead of him but Ali was the one who came to Feige about the idea of a new Blade in the first place so I'm guessing he couldn't think of a way to lessen his impact in the movie without him backing out
>>
>>154858993
Too cool for modern Hollywood to adapt.
>>
>>154865192
>Would blade work like every action movie ever including itself

They're making 19 John wick movies for a reason
>>
>>154869480
I think the bigger issue is how do you do a new Blade movie that isn't a rehash of Blade 1 because it's got the perfect setup for an action franchise.
>>
>blade is a black guy killing vampies
>yeah, but like is that it? would people go to the theaters just for that?
i think there is a huge problem when it comes to creating shit nowadays
where everyone involved is second guessing every decision being made
>>
>>154869480
That's even dumber than making Abraham Lincoln a vampire hunter and making a two hour movie based on that
>>
>>154858982
hostility exists...
>>
>>154858988

Ryan Reynolds dictating the terms to megacorpo Disney is funny as hell.

Not only he forced them to keep the R-rating, he buck broke them so bad they had to re-hire his prefered writers after the Mouse tried to shoehorn-in their usual feminist cunts for the first draft.

He even got to badmouth RDJ to his face on the set of Doomsday and got away with it.
>>
>>154859190
Snipes acting like a Diva when they were filming the third movie likely isn't helping.
>>
>>154858993
It's not about difficulty. Unironically it is because the sole reason Hollywood pushes blacks nowadays is to incite racial tension and hate. They can't have blacks or even whites thinking that a black character is cool or even less manly.
The idea will always to cause conflict and emasculate men in general.
>>
>>154862085

I wouldn't cooperate either if I was told to pave the way for my own replacements.
>>
>>154874183
The only other one with that level of swaying power is Benedict Cumberbatch, as it's rumored he vetoed numerous expensive cameos out from Multiverse Of Madness

>Blade's trailer for Tokon was literally just being being a cool voiced dude doing the most chunni fucking samurai sword nonsense imaginable
>everyone immediately lost their shit over him, screaming and cheering
Irony was a mistake. Blade's just one of those obviously cool ideas and yet they couldn't even give us a simple movie that was a vehicle for that. He's got no baggage! Nothing to him that would ignite the usual kind of nonsense culture wars over a black superhero movie (even though there still would've been attempts and like there still will be attempts if it ever comes out), nothing that should've made any competent studio doubt the project.

But they couldn't even do that. They can't even just make a movie any more.
>>
>>154874183
>He even got to badmouth RDJ to his face on the set of Doomsday and got away with it.
What's this now?

They cant wokeify it. They can’t appeal to certain races or demographics because everyone likes Blade. The premise is “too simple” and so to people who lack imagination or the penchant for simplicity, everything needs to be a moral crusade. Vampires are also in 99% of cases objectively evil. Blade is a black guy doing a service to all of mankind and looking cook while doing it. And to those types it wasnt enough.
>>
I still find it funny people act like Snipes' Blade was high cinema or something. Not that I was looking forward to the dumb shit like MCU Blade being about his lesbian daughter or whatever, but those movies were widely considered shitty when I was growing up, and the vast majority of people I knew were widely unaware that Blade was even a comic character.

Those flicks were only successful because it was the late 90s/early 2000s slop where you went to go fill an afternoon at the movies because you were bored as shit, or because you went to rent a movie from Blockbuster/Hollywood Video to watch with the gang before playing N64/Dreamcast. Or because it was on TNT and you were in a hospital waiting room. They were never good.
>>
>>154875068
>but those movies were widely considered shitty when I was growing up,
No they weren't. Everyone liked 1 & 2. Trinity was always shitty.
>>
>>154875079
No they didn't. They "liked" them in the generic action movie sense. Neither of the first two cracked the top-ten in gross for their respective years.

Again, only moderately successful in the sense that they were the kind of schlock you put on when you were bored. I didn't know a single Blade "fan," only people who liked blood, vampires, and black leather.
>>
>>154875244
>People didn't like the films. They only "liked" the films.
>>
>>154875400
Yeah, you either didn't grow up in the era or I don't know what to tell you. There was lots of dogshit you put on because there was nothing better on. The weekend Blade 2 came out you had a choice between it or Ice Age, and you only went to see the latter if your parents wouldn't buy you tickets to an R rated movie. It was a different era. Morbius or Madam Web would have basically had the same amount of success in the era because you just went to a movie to kill a few hours, or rented schlock because the cover looked okay. In the modern era, Blade would make like $40 million domestic and end up on Netflix in 60 days after release.
>>
>>154858982
it is, there was already other blade in the tv series.
>>
>>154858982
How did Disney fail at making a movie about a black guy that hunts vampire and aura farms?
>>
>>154875487
Stan Lee himself said Marvel movies only stopped being considered a joke because of Blade. Before that, their most famous movie was Howard the Fucking Duck
>>
>>154875868
Okay, so they made a serious(ish) movie. That doesn't mean it was good.
>>
>>154858982
No it’s just truth.
>>
>>154875487
I watched Blade when it was new and it was a cool vampire action movie. There were definitely far worse movies based on comics like Howard the Duck, Supergirl, Superman IV, Steel.
>>
>>154875487
All the people telling you 2000s movies sucked were Gen X nostalgia faggots who just wish everything was Indiana Jones and The Goonies or whatever, they stopped being relevant to pop culture so now everyone can be honest in saying they liked Pirates of the Caribbean, Ghost Rider, Blade, etc.
>>
>>154875487
>I will tell you the opinions you have about the films you watched.
>>
>>154862044
>that continues where the movies left
see? same blade.
>>
>>154876849
I didn't say there isn't worse out there, just that it isn't very good.

>>154876858
I was growing up back then. There were plenty of good movies. Blade just wasn't really one of them.

>>154877064
I'm talking about general perception of the time, plenty of people like things that are still mostly regarded as bad or not very good.
>>
>>154858982
This made me chuckle...
>>
>>154859063
Thats what im thinking
>>
>>154877863
Anon you just sound like some dorkwad with very little friends, alot of people think their opinions matter more or their little Eltingville club friend group or internet forum they were on represents reality. When clearly a lot of people liked those Blade movies, and were happy to see Wesley return.
