>>154861266It’s a hard pill to swallow that almost all modern Disney films suck and that company was always hugely overrated and has always pandered to little girls. Their golden age films are Citizen Kane-level masterpieces (and their silver age films are mostly good) and only midwits act like their cheesy Renaissance films are better. Every film post-Little Mermaid has been key jingling slop, generic homogenized art directions, celebrity VAs, broadway pandering and shit that panders even more to little girls than they have done so in the past, this is especially prominent in their revival films which are essentially glorified toy commercials for princess dolls with ugly ass generic CGI. The Goofy Movie was one of the few times Disney has actually made a film appealing to boys and Lilo & Stitch was also a great film for how it has a great story and artstyle and doesn’t follow Disney cliches.Disney is also the reason why animation is primarily seen as a children’s medium, but y’all niggas ain’t ready for that conversation, if the Fleischers won the animation war way back then western animation would be in a far better state.

>>154862398Spumchuds like Lilo & Stitch for how it doesn’t follow a lot of Disneys cliches, it looks unique stylistically rather than using their generic house style, instead letting Chris Sanders style shine through with a nice watercolor aesthetic on the backgrounds, and also has a unique story devoid of cheesy writing that actually draws from life rather than primarily copying cheesy tropes already done in other Disney films. I’ve seen some other renaissance-onward films have a more divisive reputation among spumchuds>The Little Mermaid - Generally liked by them for being a good film on its own that’s just hard to appreciate knowing how much of modern Disney's cliches came out of it.>Hercules - Has a comedy style and an artstyle more adjacent to that of old Warner Bros cartoons than Disney, though the disneyfication is still there>Treasure Planet - Some of them praise it for being unique but it’s also pretty hated style-wise for once again adhering to Disneys house style.
