why doesn't this have more issues?
A book about the CGPD thatdidn't involve Gordon and has a lot of gay lesbian shit with ugly lesbians in the 2000's instead of sexy ones wasn't a big seller. Not a big surprise. Hideous fucking artstyle too, this was the era where everything was either realistic or super sketchy and shadowy looking to feel "mature"
>>154862955It's good?
>>154862955prolly cuz’ it was done in the era where gordon and bullock weren’t in the dept.
>>154862955Combination of factors, IIRC. It didn't sell well. Slightly better than your average Vertigo title, I think.Brubaker had just signed an exclusive with Marvel. They decided to use Allen and Montoya as the new Spectre and Question, and they were the characters that got most of the focus towards the back half of the book.
>>154863001Snowflake
>>154863280It's enjoyable. The stories can vary with some issues being character driven but it's a fun read.
>>154862955They probably think DC readers are a buncha morons that get bored when you’re not smashing action figures together
>>154863497Outdated vibe
>>154863280This was my favorite DC book when it was coming out. A traditional police procedural just set in Gotham.
>>154862955Did comic writers think they were cool and mature because they had lesbians on their comics?
>>154864013>Didstill do
>>154864013>maturethey do it because they're young and hip 40 year olds
>>154864013Renee should've fucked a hot girl on panel to make sure the book was really mature
I think Ed Brubaker told a story about how Dan Didio came into the office and held up an issue and said this is kind of book we SHOULDN'T be publishing.
>>154862955SalesIt's literally salesSnyder came out recently and said it's a popular seller as a collected edition NOW but the book didn't sell well enough for single issues
>>154864285They had it fucked up from day one. They should have writing for the trade and marketing it like their Vertigo books. Instead they treated it like any other bat-senpai title with the War Games and Infinite Crisis tie-ins.
>>154864347Trade writing sucks, It's like a proto-surf Dracula.
>>154864347It still lasted 40 issues
>>154864382Absolutely true, but they still had all the TPBs on a 2-3 year delay, published as an afterthought. And that's where the focus should have been.
>>154864250That tracks.
>>154862955I tried to read the Compact of this but it was so incredibly boring I couldn't force myself to keep reading after the first arc. So, probably because of that.
