I’d say the fundamental flaw of Space King is really a result of a broader cultural trend. Tom and Don’s idea of coolness and masculinity seems to be shaped by raunch masculinity, the idea of coolness/masculinity from sex comedies, family guy, south park and certain stand-up comedians: the guy who jokes about date rape, never actually confronts the person he dislikes, and instead ruin their personal life in some petty, underhanded way.So even when they draw from a traditionally masculine framework like Warhammer, they are incapable of portraying it in a normal, healthy or aspirational way. That’s why it ends up the way it does. Full of irrelevance, vulgarity and performative edginess rather than genuine masculinity.
