He's very melodramatic for a 40 year old man. He thinks because he has no magnum opus or an amazing career that his life is a failure. It's a bit arrogant to think lives that are just mediocre or even subpar merits such a dramatic response. I know his illness is probably horrible and draining but he's still capable of enjoying things and he's got a big audience and skills to express himself.
