but it has some good art that makes it okay?
unless you are an idiot who thinks getting keys jingled in your face is good because they were really well made keys, it shouldnt

walt disney should be ashamed of making this movie at all
that he considers it in his top 3 just speaks so much about his lack of taste

how are you posting from 1937

Fuck FDR that crippled communist has been in office for too long

That's basically what Tolkien and Lewis said after watching it at the local picture house. Tolkien later made sure that Disney wouldn't touch his work.

tolkiens take was slightly more nuanced
he thought it was artistically great and walt disney an excellent artist
what he hated was that he felt it was a moral failing, walt disney just ignored hundreds of years of real world mythology and paid no respect to the oral traditions from which the dwarf was derived in favor of making a oafish and comedic characters

essentially, he thought that disney was making a soulless cashgrab that was eerily close to the villains of his own stories
saruman and sauron were clever, brilliant even, but they didnt respect the tradition that came before in favor of blunt progress

Are things ever explained in the original fairy tales and myths? They were stories, not novels. The same applies to how characters act. Characters just seem to do things in fairy tales and myths.

>90% filler, they even have a song thats literally about nothing called the silly song, as if being self-aware about how silly makes it unsilly

Can't avoid filler if it's going to be feature length. And c'mon, that was a funny song.

>rotoscoped animation is a lazy shortcut instead of hand drawing their movement

Agreed there. The Fleischers were the only ones who could make rotoscoping look good.

>multiplanar camera work is lazy shortcut for hand drawing the parallax

I never heard anyone call multiplane lazy. Hand drawing parallax just sounds like pointless busywork.

>cant decide if it wants to be for kids or adults, putting scary imagery right next to juvenile humor about asses

Was "marketing to kids" even a thing in 1938? I think you're seeing through the lens of Modern Disney's "family movies" marketing here.

Then maybe adapting a 10 page long story into a 1h20m long movie was a stupid-ass idea?
You know how people complained that the 320-page-long Hobbit book got adapted into a 9-hour-long movie trilogy? That's 1.68 minutes per page. While Snow White is 8 minutes per page.
Not only that, they still cut out some of the story! Like the Queen's first two murder attempts with the comb and the corset.
It's really no wonder the movie's pacing is so goddamn slow.

You could say that for every Victorian-era adaptation of fairy tales every. Go German if you want the real fucked-up shit.
