What’s your favourite Joker comic and why? I want to dive deep into his comic cycles and graphic novels. I’ve already read The Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum. What makes the Joker such an especial villain?

>>154874401I don't really like Joker. I guess Dark Knight Returns because he finally dies in it.
>>154874401>What makes the Joker such an especial villain?I've heard it said Moore did TKJ as a favor to Bolland and doesn't believe it particularly meaningful, but honestly it does a good job of making Batman, Gordon and Joker stand in as archetypes for the psychologies of vigilantes, civil servants and criminals, each taking whatever happened in their lives and trying to use it as much to navigate the world as steer it, each understanding the futility of that but having no choice but to cling to what they known and believe. In a way that says less about Joker himself as it does the concept of career criminals, but it's still fascinating. Real people obviously aren't villains written to perpetuate colorful misadventures every month but there are some who can't imagine any other way to live other than by a creed others would find insane. You can see how it helped the Nolans shape the philosophical question in TDK about personal and societal rules falling into question when self preservation looms overhead. For example Gordon is shown disillusioned with politicians and conventional law from the experiences in Begins, and trusts only in the system Batman and a few of his close officers operate in, shutting out those like Dent, until he's forced to realize his people aren't infallible so his system isn't so his rule wasn't and Dent suffered for what Joker highlights as ultimately insane logic under scrutiny. As contrarian as people like to be about TDK because of its high praise that simple thread several characters go through in different ways is honestly solid writing without taking away from still being a straightforward superhero movie instead of something too navel gazing like Inception.
>>154874401The Dark Knight Returns and The Laughing Fish two-parter
>>154874401Emperor Joker.
>>154874401Detective Comics 341 is pretty good and underrated as well. Good Carmine Infantino art
Do people still like Joker by Brian Azzarello? I remember people seemed to like it when it came out but I never really cared for it.
>>154877169I do
>>154877169It's so edgy for no reason, but still a fun read
