Why don’t comic book characters who’s whole identity is being cartoony, look cartoony anymore?

MAWS is a very specific, idealized version of anime, with any element that isn't "beautiful" being sanded off entirely. Imagine making something in the vein of ghibli, but without any old people or any of the disturbing monsters the studio has to offer. That's basically MAWS.
