>>154880408while this may not be why it resonates so much with so many people, i think the wordplay and messing around with linguistics is one reason it at manages to be iconic. i took a linguistics class a while ago and Alice in Wonderland was used as an example of how you intuitively use context clues to realize what a pseudoword is supposed to refer to (or at least, what type of word it is like a verb or an adjective) yes, it's obvious that if you say something like "the Jabberwocky is scary", you obviously know that it's a monster of some kind, but the important part is the fact that we intuitively do it, revealing stuff like sentence structures and what's "linguistically correct" without us needing to think about it. the psuedowords and play with language makes it iconic, both for entertainment purposes and for academic purposes also, yknow, the American McGee games make her hot and make her appeal to a totally different audience which might also help. if you like Coraline, you probably end up liking American McGee's Alice too
