Anya Corazon has been a hunter for the Spider Society, a sidekick to Ms. Marvel and best friends with Rikki Barnes. She had powers and has since lost them. During the Gauntlet she was one of the many spider-themed characters targeted by Kraven the Hunter's family. Following the death of Madame Web, her precognition abilities passed on to Julia Carpenter who in turn passed her costume onto Anya. Having recently worked with Rikki, Gravity, Firestar and a young man named Toro to take down a group of villains called the Bastards of Evil, Anya eventually gave in and decided to take the moniker that everyone had been calling her: Spider-Girl.Today is Spider-Girl #1-4.Previous >>154904105
This issue also includes a backup.IMO you can see right from issue 1 what the problems with this series are and why it got cancelled so fast but how much of that is on Tobin and how much is on editorial I can't really say. I would imagine stuff like killing Anya's father or including Rulk and Sue were editorial things and maybe all of it could be executed better but then they're all kind of shit ideas anyway so there's probably not much you can do with it.
It's Li'l Anya
>>154917333Tobin's usually solid, when in doubt always blame Spider-Man editorial.
Issue 2
>>154917491I can blame him for introducing another pointless and forgettable/soon to be forgotten friend as opposed to just using the already established non-superhero best friend Anya already had.
Issue 3
Issue 4
Ana Kraven feels like something of a wasted character in the sense that I don't think anybody wants their heroes fighting a 13 year old girl.
Ah, the 616 version of Chat. She's not going to have near the success of the MA version, appearing in this and the next issue and nothing else.
That's it for today. Next time is Spider-Girl #5-8.
>>154918516It's a damn crying shame, you have a literal Disney Princess and perfect support character for Spider-Man and nothing is done with her.Chat's a perfect 'bridge' character between Superheroics and Civilian, being effectively unpowered herself aside from what she can garner from her animal friends who cooperate. A Spiderwriter needs to fill out the cast with neighbourhood New Yorkers again.
>>154918798Thing is there's no indication that 616 Sophia even has powers. Also Anya's really kind of a weird character. I like her but it seems like writers really have no idea what to do when she's the focal point of a book and it winds up oddly making her more generic. It feels like she works better as a supporting character i.e. when she was Carol's sidekick during Civil War or when she was Rikki's buddy. Her and Rikki really bounced off of one another well.
>>154916978>Super Hero DebutNow, I'm not going to come outright and call it false marketing.HOWEVER...
>>154918980It reads like they basically intended it as a soft reboot for Anya. One page of "oh, this kind of happened" but then effectively ignore all of it so they could make her Spider-Girl like they always intended.
>>154917800So she has Lynn, no name from Young Allies, and now her? Lots of civilian friends.
>>154919937And now she has no need at all for them because she's been reduced to Spider-Character #12.
>>154918719Thanks
>>154919158Why give her a black suit then?
>>154921889Probably because they wanted her to have a real costume even though it's a worse look than her original outfit.
>>154916978ty op
>>154918516Huh. I didn't even know there was a 616 version of Chat. Pretty telling, I suppose.
>>154918719Thank you
>>154924502Maybe if the book lasted longer she would have been a thing but probably not.
This is still here so I'll continue using the thread. Today it's Spider-Girl #5-8.
Issue 6
Issue 7
Issue 8
That's all for Anya's shortlived ongoing but as you can see, we've now started into Spider-Island and this will get a continuation that starts the next month in the form of a miniseries that might as well constitute issues 9-11 (never forget) of this series. But we'll delay that just a bit because there's one little dangling thread that needs to be taken care of. So next time, the Young Allies and Secret Avengers team up in Onslaught Unleashed #1-4.
>>154929122>USA spent millions on pens, just use a pencil, lolNope, the ink was developed by a private business, and the Soviets used those as well after a while because of the inherent risks of graphite dust getting into expensive and delicate shit Nope
>>154930817But what about chewing gum, huh smart guy?
>>154930086Good riddance.
