as someone who got here in 2011/2012 i miss comraderecs images and threads. why don't they get made anymore is it because they already include all the comics worth reading ? are modern comics really just that bad ?
>>154931548We still get threads occassionallyWe did one for comics for cartoon fans a few years back and there was someone making a refined version of the chart
>>154931548Aside from broad cultural shifts that lead to less reading or creation there's also the fact that those parsed out 50-70 years worth of material so adding in fifteen years isn't much.
>>154931590>parsed out 50-70 years worth of material so adding in fifteen years isn't muchI mean, there's still old stuff that wasn't scanned at that time that could definitely be recommended now
>>154931548The board used to have a much stronger comic focus in general.
>>154931548I want to make a bunch of charts, but I figure I haven't read enough. I also read a lot of manga, so my standards may be a little different.
>>154932046>The board used to have a much stronger comic focus in general.>used toWhat happened?
>>154932071human beings both on this website and in general dont read (western )comics anymore. i often see people on this board damage control-ing about it but its a fact the more time passes the less people actually read american comics. so discussion drops
>>154932071Lore cartoons plus aging demographics meant there'd be more people from a post-crash era>>154932087It's glaring because comics as a fandom is legit more active now than it was a decade ago but /co/ has still declined
>>154931590This. It's not like 100% of everything has been shit, but even if a character has had one really good run in the years since, it'd be just one extra line added.
>>154932071The 2000s-2010s comic fans grew old, normied out, and got replaced by ESL secondaries.
I miss Bawwwwww threads...
>>154932071The internet used to be a more literate, higher-IQ place. The sort of person who just got online in the 2010s with mainstream social media, etc. has a low attention span and is unwilling or perhaps unable to read even a comic book. As those people over time filtered into 4chan, the culture shifted in turn.
>>154932071Social media became big in the 2010sBut also from what I noticed on hereMarvel shills/employees got more blatant in their arrogance up until maybe the late 2010s when they started to lose the ability to persuade anyoneEarly part of the decade had the influx of tumblr/scans daily types into here and on social media shaping discussion of comics in the wrong ways, and then in turn led to culture wars and in turn the Comicsgate crowd which shaped discussion of comics in the wrong ways as well. What is common is they didn't seem to care much about comics beyond whichever point they read and don't care for contexts, whether story or historical,
I've been trying to lurk more because my western sensibilities are weak. Not just here but going to local comic shops and looking for stuff I can recommend that isn't just manga (my bread and butter). It's rough looking through a bunch of 80s nostalgia bait remakes of old cartoons and modern cape comics of very varying quality. The closest I can see as an easy starter is Absolute but even that seems rather questionable. Board culture is ingrained in me not to directly ask for anything. But it does feel like there's truth that comics are harder to approach.
>>154932198>The internet used to be a more literate, higher-IQ place.Highly debatable with leetspeak and holds up spork and badger badger song and other stuff that looks completely retarded these days.
>>154932424Get curious Go to your library, use the internet archive, don't over rely on 4chan, etc Just figure out what genres and creators you like and work yourself up from there
>>154932424Doesnt help that the new captcha killed storytimes
>>154932508I'm already doing that. I've got half of a half decent list of basic bitch properties. >Sandman>TMNT>Chew>Fable>Bone>Maus>Astro CityThis is not solely for me but I'm trying to cherry pick a variety of stories that can appeal to newer, developing brained readers without falling into pure cape comics (even if I just mentioned Astro City and I'm very willing to recommend old artists purely on name brand like Jack Kirby and John Romita). >>154932658Clearly not an issue on /a/ where they have 14 of those fuckers up. But that grates my autism in another way as I think reading comics and manga on 4chan is less than efficient.
>>154932658I haven't storytimed in months because of the "range block" going onAnd even if that ends I might not even bother resuming the stuff I was gonna storytime
>>154932729>range blockWhere are you from?
>>154932737West coast but it's not even a legit block from what I've readIt has more to do with cookies
>>154932729Same.That's why the board is in the worst shape it's ever been: it's all spammers and phoneposters.
>>154932658Anon, I’ve been storytiming regularly for weeks. I have another storytime set to go in five days, and then three more within the week and a half after that. Storytimes aren’t dead… yet… but they’re definitely dying. (Be the change you want to see in the world.)
>>154931548Did I hear COMERADERECS?
>>154931548I think I heard COMERADERECS.
>>154931548Good thing I have all these COMERADERECS images saved in case the tumblr goes down.(What sane person would ever recommend Disassembled and Bendisvengers to anyone other than their worst enemy? Jesus fuck, these really need updating lol)
>>154931548I'll post everything I've got here before I go to bed. It's mostly for Marvel, but the tumblr has lots of DC too. comraderecs.tumblr.com

Anons talk to me about Daredevil. I've read Miller, Bendis, Brubaker, and Waid as well as some one shots like DD Noir and DD Yellow.I picked up the Epic Collection "Last Rites" because I heard the Fall of the Kingpin story was pretty good. I'm still working through it (on 292 I think) and I found the tail end of Nocenti to be hit or miss. I've seen people generally recommend her run though. How does it compare to others? Not really interested in the really old stuff. I like DD as more of a psuedo-noir hero rather than swashbuckler which is, to my understanding, how he was written in his early years.
>>154934245So was there no Spiderman rec macro, or would that list just amount to everything published under the Spidey branding from the 60s to late 80s?
>>154934452There were two different macros for Spidey himself… and a whole subsection of the Marvel recommended for most of his famous villains and supporting cast.
