season 1: tasteful reinterpretation+elaboration of the old league lore elements into something even the casual watcher could understand and appreciate with no prior knowledge with character arcs laid out to eventually turn into their game counterparts

season 2: hamfisted fanfiction based on season 1 instead of just following the plan of the old lore + riot kneejerk meddling in response to overwhelming positive reaction during season 1 resulting in yet another massive and blatant retcon to lol lore making a ton of characters dead ends and creating a can of worms where a good handful of lol characters canonically cannot exist

This is something that baffles me to this day. It was like everyone knew champions would have to be safe so Riot had to SUBVERT LE EXPECTATION and kill almost all of them just for the hell of it??? Like none of the champion's deaths make the slightest of sense.

And all that shit just so the rest of the LoL franchise continues as if Arcane had never existed. It's hilarious how they added all champions from Arcane in 2XKO but all with their LoL personas, as if to bait the Arcane casual into playing trash just because the chars are there. How fucking retarded are they?

Ambessa died, but she was also a show character before becoming a champ.

Heimer respawns because of Yordle bullshit.
Warwick is temu wolverine. He's already died once, what's another death?
Jinx escaped via the tunnels.
Viktor and Jayce are off having cosmic boy love. Despite being disintegrated into arcane energy it has already been established that said energy has a base form of sentience. They are probably gonna drift around until someone like Zoe decides to bring them back to physical form because it would be funny to her.

You should know that kids are basically using nothing but visual effects and drawings to measure the quality of a work and story and text have no weight at all. Every medium this board stands for is actually producing a generation of illiterate kids. We finally have studies about the literacy of the population that explains why capeshit and film capeshit succeeds and endures endures, because the audience is not actually processing the story.

I know this might be hard to do, but it's actually time to stop saying animation quality and pretty pictures in any way offsets a horrific terrible story. At this point the only productive thing to say is that visuals don't start to matter until the story is good.

>that kids are basically using nothing
This has been true since likely the dawn of cave paintings. Additionally, while there is a lot, in the jist of what you typed that I agree with: People younger than 50 (possibly even upwards) are illiterate on multiple levels; story (including plot), which should be primary, and has been since the days of oral history.

However, that is also not recent - quick cuts, fast editing, the MTVness of modern visual story-telling lead to this, so that people cannot sit through a two and half or three hour movie on the regular.

That all said, it's totally an over-reaction to say that visuals 'don't start to matter' - because it doesn't work in this context unless we are only talking about a written (or audio book) novel.
>>
>>155001202
All of this is cope until confirmed.

>>155001691
>an over-reaction to say that visuals 'don't start to matter'
I don't think is an over-reaction.

I'm going to give a very good example - Ghibli movies. Ghibli movies are gorgeous, but their stories are complete dogshit. I don't think we should care about Ghibli movies at all, I don't think the absence of a sensible story is acceptable. I think Ghibli movies are worse because of the script attached to it - they would be better if there was simply no voice acting at all because then we can just say they are purely a visual product and nothing more.

We should want the visual medium to be both as beautiful as Ghibli and have as well crafted a story as you would get from a text product. It should be totally unacceptable that Arcane's beauty redeems the complete shitshow of writing that is the second season. The only way we can inch closer to the world where we get both great visuals and story together in one product is if we stop forgiving a product when it only has visuals and a crap story. That is why I said that visuals only start to count if there's a good story first. If people want pretty shit they can just browse Artstation there's plenty of Ghibli-level animated beauty there. The story has to not only come first but be nonnegotiable and we have to agree on that otherwise we may as well just be one of the porn boards. A visual medium can only be better than a purely written medium if it has all the poetic story elements of the written medium.

I can only assume the writers got some kind of parasitic brain worms because S1 was great and then S2 went off the rails so hard and so fast it's like they fired the original writers and replaced then with a bunch of fucking meth heads with downs syndrome. It's completely goddamn mystifying.

The plot was literally just a smoke screen for shipping and hype moments all along. That's all it was, there was no bigger aim behind the writing. And in retrospect it is clear when you look at Vi in season 1. Jinx and Vi are framed as embodiments of Zaun and Piltover in their conflict, but then Vi is pulled out of prison and she has neither agency or depth of her own. From the get go she exist to follow Cait (and be paired with Cait) and find Powder/Jinx. Then comes season 2, the mask is pulled off from what the plot really is, and yet Vi remains exactly the same. As a character Vi is the biggest fucking foreshadowing of how much nothing this story was.
>>
>>155002131
I agree with your initial opinion but this is just wrong. Ghibli movies have incredible stories. Maybe they feel vague or incomplete because compared to traditional western narratives, it's not about a good guy defeating a bad guy in a standard beginning buildup climax ending. They are thematic stories.

I'll be the first to say I don't like S2's story (although episode 7 was amazing). But I'm also pointing out that studies have shown people are very biased to judge things not fairly, but based on what is adjacent or around it. For example, if you eat soggy fries in an amazing steak place, you'd remember it and rage about it forever. If you are it at a dive bar, you would forget the next morning.

People judge Arcane S2 in the context of S1, and that's why they have it so much. S2 is not, judged fairly, anywhere bad.
>>
>>154997533
>>154997604
Basically a few things here
>Season 1 was well-paced, tasteful, and worked on what the community already had thought were connections between the characters, and even teasing a couple. The story was written in a cohesive way so that it could *reasonably* lead up to the circumstances of current lore and League while also leaving enough ambiguity for what happens
>Season 2 was rushed, ACTIVELY killed off characters, was kind of ugly in terms of design for a few (Warwick was not designed by a furry this time unfortunately,) and did some outright character assassination on others. Mel being a *cool badass magical black lady of unexplained origins* is not good writing, even when it's getting a continuation in season 3
>With the exception of Ekko of course, who actively made the season better
>>
>>155006804
The lore people are just seething, honestly. What lore? There's ten AUs, ranging from they're in a high school to pop stars to space travelers. The "canon" stuff keeps changing, and they write little explanatory fanfiction notes all the time.
>>
Season 1 was miles better than season 2, the animation felt purposeful and not over-designed, the music was implemented a lot better, there were enough slow periods for the story to breathe, etc. Season 2 was kind of just constant set piece, character motion, no one had any room to slow down and breathe it was pretty much just all plot.

I had expected the carpet muncher sex scene, and while I won't say it was bad despite not being my thing, I feel like it happens at a very absurd point in the story compared to Jayce inventing sex-tech while his lab partner has a heart attack
>>
>>155006804
Ekko carried the whole of season 2 desu
>>
>>155006842
Season 1 is just open-ended and worked in character relationships that people theorized or intuited pretty well. Season 2 said "fuck subtlety" and Riot decided to make it the defacto game lore of League
>>
>>155006859
The complaints about S2 being rushed I take with a grain of salt. Arcane and S1 made heavy use of compressed storytelling. Each scene was five minutes long. The entire S1 had ~22,000 words of dialogue, which is like a small to medium sized fic.
>>
>>154997533
The big battle being so fucking rushed sucked.
Still all around good, but S1 much better.
>>
>>155006901
Most of the lore changes or made specific was in S1. Like Jinx being a trauma induced personality. I don't even know what S2 really changed, other than shipping.

>>155000649
It’s fine if it’s written well, but the series was written in such a way where wealth inequality wasn’t causal and instead just coincidence. We don’t see zaunites slaving away for Piltover masters. The only bad labor conditions we see are by Silco. It’s just not a setting that makes sense.
>>
>>155006929
Rushed in terms of there's too much story content with too little time put into it. The episodic batch releases worked well with season 1 because every 3 episodes more or less functioned as their own arc, but in season 2 it's probably better to describe it as every episode is its own story arc

>People judge Arcane S2 in the context of S1, and that's why they have it so much. S2 is not, judged fairly, anywhere bad.
What the fuck are you talking about? It's literally the second part of the same story. Of course it is judged based on its first part and found lacking.
Compartmentalising pieces of the same plot and ascribing them individual value isolated from the whole is both retarded and disingenuous.
Different parts can be better than others that form the plot. But to say a chunk of the plot should be valued in a void from the rest of it is moronic.
>>
>>155007409
On the one hand, the objective qualities of Season 2 should be judged independent, like animation, story coherency, etc. On the other hand though, it is a season 2 yeah it's only natural to judge some things like the way plot threads from season 1 are resolved or the way foreshadowing from season 1 is handled.

I do think season 2 is pretty good animation-wise and looks great, but it doesn't have the same vision season 1 had. Not as well directed, I would say.

I liked Vi and Caits ending. It was comfy and sweet. Would love to see them a decade later in domestic bliss.
I would have preferred to see them fight as a pair with their weapons and get proper Piltover's Finest. Should have been them vs. Ambessa. Cait gets blinded, Vi loses her fucking shit and beats Ambessa to a pulp for it. Mel fucks off and dies at the beginning of the season from Jinx's bomb.

The worst part about this being awful is it likely killed any chance of there being a Shurima show. I want a story that flashes between the past and present of Azir/Xerath and Sivir/Cass that culminates in a dual betrayal across time and bird dad rising from the dead to save his granddaughter.

>(although episode 7 was amazing)
I want you to take what I'm about to say as constructive even if it is incredibly hostile.

Episode 7 is the worst moment of the season. It's the point where nothing matters because suddenly we have introduced alternate timelines and time travel (because Heimerdinger shows up earlier than Ekko) and results in Ekko having a time reversal item. Timelines and time travel is simply the worst thing in fiction, it means that one thing happening as a result of another thing has no consequences because we can just change it using time travel.

The fact you think Episode 7 was amazing means something is wrong with you because you are celebrating what is the absolute worst fictional trope in storytelling. A story only makes any sense if A -> B -> C, it's why moments have impact because one thing leads to another. If C can jump to A and instead have A go to D as if B didn't exist then what the fuck was the point of B or anything else. Morality exists to stop us from fucking shit up and if we disregard morals then we get tragedies, which can be poetic in themselves. But now we have Viktor throwing a rune to Jayce back in time constantly rather than stopping himself? Even with the power of time travel Viktor doesn't do the moral thing, he doesn't stop himself from killing so many people in Piltover.

I don't know how you can fix yourself. I don't know what prescription will actually fix you because I cannot comprehend how you've gotten to this point. I can only really say that you're not unique in being this fucked up because everyone else is also okay with time travel and timelines but you have to unfuck yourself. You have to go back to your high school literature notes and actually fucking learn them because any story whose climax returns back to the introduction is a completely fucked story.
>>
>>155010439
NTA but episode 7 is good though merely on its own merits. Yeah, I think it's retard lore in the grand scheme of things and it's only satisfying in the concept that it proves Ekko is a very selfless person, but the choreography and the pacing is very good as an episode. Great visuals, etc.

I agree that in the context of the season, it's detrimental to have the timeline stuff going on despite my personal enjoyment of both that and Jayce's Anor Londo experience, but the episodes themselves are well-made without many problems in the internal story telling
>>
>>155010612
>without many problems in the internal story telling
You haven't absorbed anything I said.

I forgive you. I know the education system has failed you and you can't actually comprehend what I've said. It has failed the entire past ten years of kids and the adults were already 20% illiterate. I know you can't comprehend what you are reading or process it into your thinking because you've had no practice. You read so much on the Internet but you don't understand any of it.

I'm sorry. You're not okay but it's not your fault.
>>
>>155010285

>>
>>155011135

>>
>>155011135

>>
>>155011301
Technically yes but it'd only be flashbacks, mostly her story is Terrible past (Singed), Recover in Ionia, Yasuo shows up and confronts then trains her, years pass and second Noxian Invasion happens, Old companions show up and fight her mostly dying, brought back to Noxus in chains and thrown into the Arena as a public execution, keep winning.
>>
>>155010439
>I want you to take what I'm about to say as constructive even if it is incredibly hostile.
fuck you, if you're hostile, I'm gonna be double hostile

>suddenly we have introduced alternate timelines and time travel
nothing that wasn't already in LoL lore. If you don't want LoL lore introduced in your LoL show, then don't fucking watch LoL shows

something EVERYONE knew he would get because it's literally his fucking weapon

>it means that one thing happening as a result of another thing has no consequences because we can just change it using time travel.
what a fucking retarded statement. Any story that uses time elements also has to create rules for it. Something Arcane did.

>you are celebrating what is the absolute worst fictional trope in storytelling
according to who? What are your credentials to make such an statement?

>A story only makes any sense if A -> B -> C
you're a brainlet who can't think in any other way than straightforward. Got it.

>if we disregard morals then we get tragedies
you mean that you have seen this far and haven't realized this story is a tragedy? How fucking retarded are you?

>I don't know what prescription will actually fix you because I cannot comprehend how you've gotten to this point
definitely not the one they gave you because it clearly doesn't work

>any story whose climax returns back to the introduction is a completely fucked story
then it's good that this one didn't
